No Tolerance

by Meghann on March 25, 2010

I have the tolerance of a first semester college freshmen…

IMG_2530.JPG

One glass of red wine with dinner and all I want to do is crawl in to bed and say nighty night.

I was the worst party girl in college. One drink and I was ready to snooze. Of course the number of drinks evolved as I got older – by the time I was a senior I could kick back XX amount of shots before calling it a night – but one thing remained the same: a buzzed Meghann = a sleepy Meghann.

The same was true for tonight.

I had a business dinner after work and nursed a glass of cab with my meal. The cab was delicious, but the one glass really went to my head. At least I’m a cheap date? πŸ˜‰

We met for dinner at one of my favorite downtown restaurants – Dexter’s – and I ordered the Basil & Mint Crusted Tuna special which was served in a coconut sauce.

IMG_2534.JPG

The tuna was perfectly rare, just the way I like it. πŸ™‚ I was expecting more of a mint or basil flavoring, but all I could taste was the lovely coconut sauce. The sauce was light and really complemented the tuna perfectly.

I ate all the greens and half the tune. I am betting the remaining tuna will make an excellent salad topper for lunch tomorrow. πŸ™‚

The glass of wine put my sweet tooth into overdrive after dinner. I debated stopping for dessert on my way home, but opted to save a little $$ and made myself a nice bowl of thin mint ice cream when I got home.

That hit the spot!

Before I left work I had a piece of pumpkin chocolate chip bread.

Do you hear that?

It’s my bed calling my name! πŸ™‚

Nighty Night

Looks like it was a lovely evening out!

I hear you on the wine, it goes straight to me head, too. More than beer or a mixed drink!

2 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) March 25, 2010 at 9:17 pm

I ALWAYS get seared tuna whenever it’s a menu option–LOVE IT! I have the lowest tolerance ever. It’s a great thing except the line between tipsy and vomming is verrrrry fine πŸ™‚

3 Pam (Pamcakes and Eggs) March 25, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Ah the tuna looks delicious!!! I think Whole Foods sushi is in order for dinner tonight.

Also, I’m a cheap date too. My how times have changed since my early twenties.

4 Evan Thomas March 25, 2010 at 9:19 pm

I love my tuna so rare it’s still swimming πŸ™‚

5 dianacheung March 25, 2010 at 9:23 pm

i can’t believe you only ate half of that tuna!!! You have such a small appetite for a great runner! I would have gobbled down TWO of those!

6 Jenna March 25, 2010 at 9:28 pm

Tuna looks phenom!!

7 Lauren @ A Fit Foodie March 25, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Mmmm…. a glass of cab. Perfect!! And that tuna looks unreal! Yummy!

8 theprocessofhealing March 25, 2010 at 9:44 pm

HAHA I’m soooo the same way! One glass of wine and i’m silly/happy/sleepy all at once… it’s interesting, to say the least.

Your tuna sounds delicious!! I loooooove seared tuna! I can only imagine how good it would be with a coconut sauce!

I love Mozilla. Explorer hurts my eyes for some reason?

10 Lily @ Lily's Health Pad March 25, 2010 at 9:45 pm

I hear ya! One drink and I’m ready to rest my head on the pillow!!

11 thewhatkateateblog March 25, 2010 at 9:45 pm

I love tuna, too! If I drink too slow (if Im trying to get crazy) I definitely suffer from the sleepies!

12 hundredtenpounds March 25, 2010 at 9:46 pm

I am a total light weight. Which is nice because I’m a cheap date! πŸ™‚

13 Julie @ Wearing Mascara March 25, 2010 at 9:57 pm

Girl, I’m the same way. With wine, I can’t even have it with dinner because I
l’ll pass out. The only time I do that is if I know it’s an early night. But if my bf and I are doing dinner and a movie, it won’t happen because I’ll sleep during the movie!

14 Matt March 25, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I am a light weight too πŸ˜‰

15 tiffnie March 25, 2010 at 10:10 pm

That tuna looks amazing! I can’t believe you ate only half! I hope it tastes good tomorrow…I’ve never kept raw fish overnight (and also because I love fish so much I don’t have leftovers hehe).

I need to take lessons from you! I need to be more of a cheap date (my boyfriend would LOVE that πŸ˜‰ )

I do the tired drunk thing too. All of my friends now call me “Sleepy Lee.”

18 Sophie @ yumventures March 25, 2010 at 10:25 pm

Tuna looks amazing! Red wine is my favorite drink, even if it does make my sleepy πŸ™‚

19 missyrayn March 25, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Oooo I love tuna like that.

I haven’t had a drink in years so I’m sure that one drink would knock me out. I used to have a high tolerance but it’s probably all gone.

20 Crystal March 25, 2010 at 11:09 pm

I’m a lightweight, too! But that just means we can save a bit of money, right? πŸ™‚

21 Jenny March 25, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I have such a low tolerance, too! I don’t even drink because i get so affected by alcohol:(

22 Marina March 26, 2010 at 1:22 am

I am low tolerance too. I always fall asleep when our friends are at our place, having fun and drinking πŸ˜€
Yummy looking tuna!

23 Lisa (bakebikeblog) March 26, 2010 at 1:46 am

wow that tuna looks really good!!!! HAve a great sleep!!

24 Erin March 26, 2010 at 1:47 am

Every time I see that pumpkin choco bread, I want to reach through teh computer and grab it. πŸ˜‰ I have a similar alcohol tolerance — one glass and I’m satisfied, two and I’m done. πŸ˜€

25 Kerry March 26, 2010 at 3:45 am

Haha i’m the same with wine, i hardy ever drink so one and im gone!

26 britchickruns March 26, 2010 at 3:53 am

Gosh that tuna dressing sounds amazing! I want to try and re-create something like that, it just sounds too good to miss…
That tuna is so rare! I’m terrified of rare tuna, I always cook the life outta mine :p
I’ve got a freakishly low alcohol tolerance too; I literally just need to smell alcohol and I’m gone :p

27 fitandfortysomething March 26, 2010 at 7:45 am

I know what you mean about the wine. It especially makes me sleepy after a long day:)

28 Derek March 26, 2010 at 8:22 am

Can’t wait to see you in sonoma surrounded by all that wine. that said, can I be in charge of the flipcam? πŸ˜‰

29 Anna March 26, 2010 at 8:34 am

lol…I have the lowest tolerance ever πŸ™‚ One glass of wine, and I am LOOPY! But I don’t get tired; I tend to get giggly!

30 runningwithsass March 26, 2010 at 9:18 am

yum the ice cream looks so good.
I have no tolerance either!

31 Kelly March 26, 2010 at 9:20 am

Haha I get giggly and chatty when I’m buzzed, and I can hear myself talking alot and in my head I tell myself to shut it, but I just keep going…

32 Lauren @ Eater not a runner March 26, 2010 at 9:52 am

That tuna looks AMAZING. I get sleepy from wine too πŸ˜‰

33 Lauren (Amateur Gastronomist) March 26, 2010 at 10:34 am

I visited downtown Orlando about a month ago and was able to go to Dexter’s for brunch. They have best Bloody Mary! The tuna looks delicious too!

34 Catherine March 26, 2010 at 11:01 am

Haha my sister calls me “two sips” because I have two sips of a beer and I become verrrry chatty. Wine I can tolerate a bit better, but I am also awful at estimating how drunk I am. Thankfully when I split a bottle with the fiance it’s more like 2/3 : 1/3, him to me. πŸ™‚

35 Nicci@NiftyEats March 26, 2010 at 11:01 am

Now, I’m in the mood for tuna this weekend. I love when it’s fresh.
