Unfortunately tonight was a loss.
The evening did start with the best of intentions.

I had printed out Kath’s recipe for Sweet Potato Gnocchi and thought it would be a fun recipe that Derek and I could make together.

Derek had never even heard of gnocchi before and I had only ever had it once at a restaurant, so we both weren’t sure what to expect.

We followed the recipe exactly and ended up with little puffs of gnocchi.

The gnocchi seemed a bit dry after we cooked it in the butter. It seemed like it was missing something?

After a quick taste test, we ended up coating the gnocchi with some jarred marinara sauce just to give it a little extra flavor.

With cooked spinach on the side.

I’m not sure if we cooked the gnocchi wrong or if it was the way it was suppose to taste, but both Derek and I were not impressed with the dish. The gnocchi were too chewy and ultimately flavorless. #fail
Again, both of us are not that familiar with gnocchi by any means, so we weren’t sure how the final product was suppose to taste. I told Derek next time we go to an italian restaurant one of us has to order gnocchi just to do a texture comparison.
I was hoping to make up with my lackluster dinner creation by splitting the last of my Chocomize bars with Derek.

For this bar I had selected dark chocolate with cayenne pepper, pepper, cinnamon, mango dices, and potato chips.

I was going for a spicy chocolate feel with this bar, a fact I forgot to warn Derek about. Oopppss…

As with all their toppings, the great people at chocomize were a little heavy handed with the cayenne pepper. I didn’t mind it. The spiciness gave the chocolate a fun twist, however; Derek took two bites and decided that he had enough.

Luckily I was able to make up for the dinner and chocolate with the large tub of chocolate ice cream I keep in the freezer just for Derek. I’m not a fan of chocolate ice cream (I know I’m a weirdo), but Derek LOVES it and I know it will always make him happy.
One large bowl of chocolate ice cream later and he was set for the night.
Time to relax on the couch and watch trashy tv.
Good night!
