You win some, you lose some

by Meghann on March 19, 2010

Unfortunately tonight was a loss. :(

The evening did start with the best of intentions. ;)

I had printed out Kath’s recipe for Sweet Potato Gnocchi and thought it would be a fun recipe that Derek and I could make together.

IMG_2091.JPG

Derek had never even heard of gnocchi before and I had only ever had it once at a restaurant, so we both weren’t sure what to expect.

IMG_2095.JPG

We followed the recipe exactly and ended up with little puffs of gnocchi.

IMG_2099.JPG

The gnocchi seemed a bit dry after we cooked it in the butter. It seemed like it was missing something?

IMG_2101.JPG

After a quick taste test, we ended up coating the gnocchi with some jarred marinara sauce just to give it a little extra flavor.

IMG_2110.JPG

With cooked spinach on the side.

IMG_2105.JPG

I’m not sure if we cooked the gnocchi wrong or if it was the way it was suppose to taste, but both Derek and I were not impressed with the dish. The gnocchi were too chewy and ultimately flavorless. #fail

Again, both of us are not that familiar with gnocchi by any means, so we weren’t sure how the final product was suppose to taste. I told Derek next time we go to an italian restaurant one of us has to order gnocchi just to do a texture comparison.

I was hoping to make up with my lackluster dinner creation by splitting the last of my Chocomize bars with Derek.

IMG_2125.JPG

For this bar I had selected dark chocolate with cayenne pepper, pepper, cinnamon, mango dices, and potato chips.

IMG_2127.JPG

I was going for a spicy chocolate feel with this bar, a fact I forgot to warn Derek about. Oopppss…

IMG_2129.JPG

As with all their toppings, the great people at chocomize were a little heavy handed with the cayenne pepper. I didn’t mind it. The spiciness gave the chocolate a fun twist, however; Derek took two bites and decided that he had enough.

IMG_2131.JPG

Luckily I was able to make up for the dinner and chocolate with the large tub of chocolate ice cream I keep in the freezer just for Derek. I’m not a fan of chocolate ice cream (I know I’m a weirdo), but Derek LOVES it and I know it will always make him happy. :) One large bowl of chocolate ice cream later and he was set for the night.

Time to relax on the couch and watch trashy tv.

Good night!

Taking Resumes and Eating Fro-Yo

by Meghann on March 19, 2010

I am happy to report the career expo was a success!

IMG_0418.JPG

My co-workers and I spoke with a lot of eager prospects and collected some great resumes for the internships and various other positions we have open. Now, the fun part comes Monday when we sort through the resumes and start pulling candidates in for interviews. :)

(p.s. Chris in the photo above was my co-worker whose dog Scooby went missing last month. Well, I am happy to report that Scooby was found save and sound this morning! A family had taken Scooby in and have been taken really good care of him since his escape. Still, I bet he can’t wait to go home! :) )

Set up for the expo began at 10:30 this morning and tear down wasn’t until 2:00. I wasn’t sure where lunch would fit into that picture, so right before we left I had an extra filling snack of dried fruit and shredded wheat.

IMG_2087.JPG

Boxed lunches were provided for all the employers at the event, I grabbed a vegetarian box, but wasn’t impressed.

IMG_0419.JPG

There was something about the mystery fake meat patty in the sandwich that threw me off.

IMG_0421.JPG

Instead of eating the boxed lunch, I waited until after the expo was over and walked down the street to a cafe I have been meaning to try in the area.

IMG_0424.JPG

There was a lot of food here, but I managed to clear the plate (give or take a falafel ;) ).

IMG_0425.JPG

With pitas.

IMG_0426.JPG

On my way to the cafe I noticed a new self serve yogurt place that was calling my name.

IMG_0428.JPG

I stopped in after lunch for a small-ish fro yo loaded with toppings.

IMG_0429.JPG

The weather was perfect for enjoying this 10oz beauty outside.

IMG_0430.JPG

In fact the weather was also perfect for a little magazine reading by the lake.

IMG_0438.JPG

I opted to head straight home after the expo, rather than returning to the office. The weather was too nice to stay inside! I grabbed Maddie and we went for a glorious walk by the water and enjoyed the sun in the grass.

IMG_0446.JPG

Can you tell Maddie is happy it’s the weekend? :)

Derek is on his way to Orlando and we have a lazy night in planned. We also are going to try our hands at a fun new recipe.

Have a great Friday everyone!!
