Frozen Waffles Done Right

by Meghann on March 16, 2010

Maddie has a new favorite spot.

IMG_1827

She was on top of the couch all of last night while I worked away at my lap top. I think she got it in her head that she is a cat now?

IMG_1833

It could also be that I had haphazardly thrown her favorite blanket up there and she was just up there to be with her blanket. Either way she just looked so darn cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

I slept like a baby last night โ€“ as did Maddie โ€“ and had no problem jumping out of bed at 5:30 this morning for my four mile run.

As much as I love daylight savings time for the extra light in the evenings, I hate how dark the mornings are. The sun wasnโ€™t even trying to peak out until after I was already done with breakfast. It makes early mornings, just seem extra early!

Breakfast may have been consumed in the dark, but at least it was a good breakfast. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_1835

I had popped a homemade frozen waffle in the toaster and topped it with almond butter, yogurt, strawberries, cacao nibs, and granola.

IMG_1845

The heavily topped waffles were amazing. Now, why would someone stick with boring old syrup when waffles topped with all this is sooooooo much better!!

Garmin Raffle for TNT

I can not say enough on how much I LOVE my Garmin! If it ever broke or if I ever lost it, I would go out the very next day and buy a new one.

If you arenโ€™t quite convinced that the Garmin is worth the $$, well here is your chance to win one for just $5 and donate a little money to a good cause while youโ€™re at it.

Check out Nadiaโ€™s story!

โ€œMy name is Nadia Carvalho and I am training for my first half marathon – the Zooma Anapolis 1/2 Marathon on June 6th – with Team in Training. I work in the field of international public health, and have always been an advocate to address HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, however recently I’ve realized the impact of cancer on our lives as well. My aunt passed away from cervical cancer, I have a few relatives who have had breast and other forms of esophageal cancer, and my husband’s uncle has leukemia.

My goal is to raise $2,000 for Team in Training, and in my first fundraising effort, I am raffling off a Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS Receiver and Sports Watch. The package will include an instructional CD ROM, docking cradle, expand strap, A/C charger, USB cable, owner’s manual, and quick start guide. For more details, click here.

You can enter the raffle by donating to my TNT page.

  • $5 donation for 1 entry
  • $10 donation for 2 entries
  • $15 for 3 entries

The raffle starts Tuesday, March 16th and ends on Friday, March 19th at 10pm when the winner will be selected by Random Generator. The winner will be contacted by email. Thank you so much for supporting my training efforts and making a difference to the LLS!โ€

Derek has actually been hinting he would like a Garmin for his birthday (Iโ€™ve created a running monster I tell ya!), so Iโ€™m heading over right now to put my bid in for the raffle!!!

5 Rachel @ Shedding It March 16, 2010 at 8:51 am

My dog sleeps in that same spot too!! So cute.

6 Anna March 16, 2010 at 8:53 am

lol– my little dog does that too! It annoys me, because now there’s a big saggy imprint in my couch!

7 Matt March 16, 2010 at 9:01 am

Imagine how dark it was at 4 AM for me!

8 Can You Stay for Dinner March 16, 2010 at 9:06 am

13 amanda March 16, 2010 at 9:34 am

i love that you have derek all hyped on running. who would have thunk it!

14 theprocessofhealing March 16, 2010 at 9:35 am

Maddie looks so cute!! My dog does that too but she grew up with 2 cats so I think she DOES think she’s a cat… it’s amusing.

15 Beth March 16, 2010 at 9:35 am

Those waffles look so great!

16 Cara March 16, 2010 at 9:36 am

haha my dog does the same thing! hahaha.

17 Kara March 16, 2010 at 9:37 am

I have a 95 lb boxer who does the same thing! We have an old, hand-me-down couch now, but I think we may be in trouble when we finally decide to upgrade! Lol

18 Stephanie March 16, 2010 at 9:40 am

Meghann,

My dog loves being on the top of the couch like that. He sits up there all day when my husband and I are at work, I am pretty sure! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a fabulous day!

Love the pictures of Maddie!!

20 biz319 March 16, 2010 at 10:21 am

I am always happy to donate to a good cause – thanks for letting us know Meghann! And Maddie is TOO CUTE!

21 DiningAndDishing March 16, 2010 at 10:25 am

just bought some xanthan gum…i would love the recipe for that “ice cream” once you perfect it! i used it in a smoothie the other day and it really did do an awesome job at thickening it up. i was stuffed by the end!

frozen waffles done right is RIGHT! those look SO GOOD…i love strawberries in the morning! i’m still so jealous of your amazing strawberry weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

23 Cat March 16, 2010 at 10:42 am

My Jack Russell does similar things too. I think she just likes to make sure she sees everything that’s going on! When we’re in the car, she often jumps up onto the platform above the back seat that is next to the rear window (make sense?). It’s really adorable.

24 Tracey March 16, 2010 at 11:12 am

My dog is always laying on top of the couch. I once had a trainer tell me he does this because he is trying to be top dog. He wants to be higher than me:)

I just think it is cute!

25 healthyamy March 16, 2010 at 11:12 am

Love how you make it sound so easy getting up at 5:30am! How on earth do i get the same motivation to get up early for a run? Do you eat breakfast first and give the food time to settle or are you straight out of the door?

Have you ever done a ‘day in the life of Meghann’ blog – i would love to read that, minute by minute, hour by hour!

Hope you win the Garmin for Derek

x

26 Sarah March 16, 2010 at 11:15 am

My JRT sits on the back of the couch too. And that was cute when she was all of 6 pounds. But now she’s 17 lbs and there are dog sized nests at each end of our couch, not cool. If you want to see your couch survive, correct the behavior now! Ack!

27 tramey1 March 16, 2010 at 11:21 am

I am in complete agreeance with the waffle topping! Why anyone would rather have plain ole syrup over fruit/yogurt/almond butter is beyond me.

28 Lauren @ Eater not a runner March 16, 2010 at 11:22 am

I love my Garmin too! Best purchase ever ๐Ÿ™‚

29 Molly March 16, 2010 at 11:25 am

HEY way to put those strawberries from the weekend to some use! I wish I had a garmin.. they are SO expensive!

30 Katie @ Health for the Whole Self March 16, 2010 at 11:30 am

Meghann, your adorable pictures of Maddie reminded me that I wanted to share this neat YouTube video with you!

Oops, I’m sorry I didn’t know the video was going to embed like that!

32 Lindsay H March 16, 2010 at 11:40 am

I ran my first workout this morning with a Garmin that I got on sale from Target for $99. I’m already in love…..it made my tempo run this morning so much easier, and I know that I went exactly 6.86 miles. So awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t wait to use it on my upcoming long runs….

33 missyrayn March 16, 2010 at 11:55 am

That’s where my dogs sit almost every night. They feel safer higher up. Strange cat-dogs.

I wish I could get a Garmin. It’s on my wish list for next year’s Christmas/Birthday since I’ll be training for a marathon.

34 sugiorg March 16, 2010 at 12:02 pm

meghann do your doctor appointments have anything to do with not getting your period?

35 Alison March 16, 2010 at 1:01 pm

I just ordered a Garmin for myself the other day and I can’t wait to get it. I got the 305; my husband has the 405, but it’s too confusing for me!
Your breakfast waffle looks tasty, but I admit, I’m a boring purist. I love maple syrup. I’d probably have the yogurt and fruit on the side, instead.

36 Britt @ Runnerbelle March 16, 2010 at 1:26 pm

After getting up at 5:30 yesterday morning, I opted for a noon time run today. Its finally sunny here and I wanted sunshine on my run, so lunch time run it was. The time change is hard for those early morning runs, kudos to you for actually getting out there this morning!

37 Jenna March 16, 2010 at 1:34 pm

toppings on the waffles look great!

38 Lo-Jo March 16, 2010 at 1:37 pm

Ok I’m normally a syrup-only kinda girl when it comes to waffles…but those look AMAZING. Definitely going to give it a go!

39 Shion (Shi's Eating) March 16, 2010 at 1:57 pm

i need to invest in a waffle-maker. your waffle breakfasts always look so delicious!

40 Rachel March 16, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Those waffles look amazing. I too, am loving the late evening light but not appreciating the dark in the morning again :/ It will be light again in the wee hours of the am before we know it though! Spring is almost here ๐Ÿ™‚

41 Charlotte March 16, 2010 at 11:03 pm
