Talking Smack

by Meghann on March 13, 2010

Last night Derek and I agreed that if I let him slept in, then he would take me to a fun new running spot in the morning. Derek really wanted to sleep in and I can always be bribed with a new running spot, so it was a win-win compromise for both of us.

Derek went to bed last night proclaiming how he ‘could not wait to sleep in in the morning‘ and how he was going to enjoy ‘not waking up at the crack of dawn.’ I let him have his moment and just smiled and nodded.

Turns out I was the one who got the last laugh this morning. Derek was wide awake and watching television when I woke up naturally at 7:30am this morning. He had been up for an hour and couldn’t go back to sleep. So much for sleeping in. That’ll teach him to talk smack. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Whether we technically slept in or not, Derek still owes me a cool running spot! We’re heading to a Tampa trail and I can’t wait to check it out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Since we are running I didn’t want any dairy in my breakfast, so I kept it simple with a bagel and pear.

I coated one half of my whole wheat bagel with almond butter and chocolate chips and the other with strawberry jelly.

The pear I had one the side was not even close to ripe, but after a couple of wedges I started to enjoy the crunchiness of each bite.

Now I’m fueled up and ready to run!

It’s gorgeous outside today! I see the beach in my near future as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Haha, aww, poor Derek. I know what it’s like to want to sleep in but have it not be in my nature

2 britchickruns March 13, 2010 at 9:55 am

4 Kareen March 13, 2010 at 10:21 am

Ahah! That happens to me all the time. Poor Derek!
I was wondering why you were avoiding dairy before a run?
I am a new runner and try to pick up as many good tips as possible…

I love your blog, thanks for the interesting recipes and your honest angle on life.

6 Can You Stay for Dinner March 13, 2010 at 10:49 am

Have a fun run!!

9 Jo @ SeekingHealthyBalance March 13, 2010 at 11:55 am

Hope you have a great run Meghann!

Same thing happened to me this morning. I fancied a lie in and had nowhere to be but still woke up naturally at 6,45!!

10 Amy @ Second City Randomness March 13, 2010 at 12:05 pm

I wanted to sleep in soooo bad! And I was up at 7:45… after laying awake for an hour at 4 am. What I wouldn’t give to have the ability to sleep until at least 10 again!!!

11 Matt March 13, 2010 at 12:13 pm

I try to sleep in every single weekend, but I am wide awake by 7:00!

12 BostonRunner March 13, 2010 at 12:15 pm

So jealous of your florida beach weather! I can never sleep in either..

13 Fit Chick in the City March 13, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Enjoy your run on the new course! I too consider 7:30 sleeping in. Does that mean we’re suppose to catch the worm?

14 Marissa March 13, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Hope you guys have a great run!

15 Mara @ What's For Dinner? March 13, 2010 at 12:22 pm

“Sleeping in” for me involves waking up after 5 a.m…. so 7:30 is pure luxury! Enjoy your day!

16 Deva (Voracious Vorilee) March 13, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Haha – that made me giggle. The Boy normally outsleeps me, but this morning we both slept in and woke up to the cats asking to come in the bedroom! It was nice for us to get the extra sleep – much needed. I hope that your new trail is awesome!

๐Ÿ™ i hate when you cant get back to sleep! maybe a nap will be in order after your run?!

20 Lo-Jo March 13, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Happens to me every weekend! I say “oh I can’t WAIT to sleep in!” and then I’m up by 6:45, my normal wakeup time. It’s infuriating!

21 Sweet Cheeks March 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm

haha, poor Derek. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you will take pics of the new running spot!!

I’ve got a major jealously case going on right now of your beach plans. Have fun!!

22 Run Sarah March 13, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Too funny! Enjoy your new running spot, what a fun way to spend a Sat afternoon!

23 Lauren @ A Fit Foodie March 13, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Poor Derek! I hate when you are totally looking forward to sleeping in and then you’re the first one awake before the sun even rises. Boo!!! Hope you guys had a great run today at your new running spot!

24 Lauren @ Eater not a runner March 13, 2010 at 4:33 pm

SO jealous of your weather…enjoy the run!

25 Viva Girl March 13, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Haha! That’s too funny about Derek not sleeping in after saying all of that.

what a delicious looking breakfast! enjoy your run ๐Ÿ™‚

27 Megan March 13, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Hey Meghann!

I was also wondering why you avoid dairy before a run? Do you avoid it if you’re doing a strength training workout too, or just for runs? Just curious! ๐Ÿ™‚

28 rachel March 13, 2010 at 5:19 pm

I wish it were sunny and warm here, but at least it isn’t snowing ๐Ÿ™‚ I will only eat pears that are crunchy and under ripe!

29 Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear March 13, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I could sleep until afternoon if only I was allowed. Waking up at weekends is hard and I usually let myself sleep until 10 ๐Ÿ˜‰

30 Laura Georgina March 13, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Too funny! Odd how our ideas of sleeping in change with time and habits.

31 missyrayn March 13, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Sorry but I can’t help but laugh. I hope you enjoyed your new running spot.

32 Julie March 13, 2010 at 8:37 pm
