Hummus and Jelly Sandwich

by Meghann on March 11, 2010

Oh yes, I went there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hummus & Jelly Sandwich alrightโ€ฆ or you know pita. What-ever works. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After my tempeh & jam sandwich yesterday, a few commenters challenged me to think even further outside the box with crazy sandwich combinations that involved a fruit spread. A challenge that intrigued me and one I could not get out of my mind!

As I was pulling out the ingredients for a hummus pita for lunch today, I saw the Crofterโ€™s superfruit spread again and figured why not?

Hummus and Jelly? Mmmmโ€ฆ..pretty good!

Iโ€™m telling you the crazier the combination, the better it is! I added some mushroom and spinach to the hummus and jelly pita to give it some bulk and enjoyed every bite. Maybe I should just start covering everything I eat in a fruit spread of sorts?? Oh, the possibilities!!

With my pita I had the last of my left over roasted asparagus

And the last of a bag of blue corn chips with salsa.

Before lunch I nibbled on a mini Peanut Butter Cookie Larabar.

I am SWAMPED at work today!! Is it 5:00 yet?!?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would have never thought to pair hummus with jelly… but why not! It looks great!

2 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) March 11, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Hmmmm….I would totally try this although I did take a couple seconds for me to wrap my head around it. I can imagine it tasted pretty good though. Good work, Meghann ๐Ÿ™‚

If you have time, make your oatmeal in the morning, pop it in a Thermos, they have wide mouth ones, and when you get out of the gym or back to your desk, Voila, warm oatmeal. Works for soup tooo.

You’re lucky to be swamped at work! Honestly…sometimes I don’t have enough to do and it KILLS me. We’re in the same profession too. Marketing right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

6 eaternotarunner March 11, 2010 at 3:50 pm

I have some Crofter’s in the fridge….I should start making some interesting combos myself!!

7 Lacey March 11, 2010 at 3:54 pm

I’m intrigued, but always get flavored hummus at the store. Did you use plain hummys?

8 Lacey March 11, 2010 at 3:55 pm

“HummUs” ๐Ÿ™‚

9 Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday March 11, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Was the hummus plain!? I can imagine that tasting a tad weird if it was like, funky onion flavour or something ๐Ÿ˜› I’d try it though!

12 Paige@ Running Around Normal March 11, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Not so sure how I feel about hummus and jam! Glad you liked it, though!

13 Jessica March 11, 2010 at 4:11 pm

totally had the same thing!!!!

Where do you find your mini larbars?

14 Molly @thevegandorm March 11, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Wow, I’m impressed. Hummus+jelly and jelly+tempeh just make my stomach churn! I shouldn’t knock it til I try it, I guess, but dayum haha!

15 Christie @ Honoring Health March 11, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Now that is a combo I have never seen before! But, I love hummus with apples so I know that hummus + sweet combo works really well! Yum!

16 RhodeyGirl March 11, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I keep wanting to be supportive and comment on this…. but I just can’t. ๐Ÿ™‚

17 Jessica March 11, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I laughed out loud reading hummus and jelly! Awesome for trying that combo…I do not have the courage!

18 Meghann March 11, 2010 at 4:38 pm

It’s plain hummus ๐Ÿ™‚

19 Ali March 11, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Wow that sounds…bizarre! BTW- don’t you love Crofter’s spreads? I got a box of samples too and I heart them!

20 Katie @ Health for the Whole Self March 11, 2010 at 4:44 pm

I think you’re proving to the world that jelly goes well with ANYTHING! ๐Ÿ™‚

21 Lisa (bakebikeblog) March 11, 2010 at 4:47 pm

What an interesting combination! But they sound like they went well together ๐Ÿ™‚

22 Lisa (bakebikeblog) March 11, 2010 at 4:47 pm

oooh I love grapefruits! One of my favourite fruits ๐Ÿ™‚

23 Matt March 11, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Interesting combo! I think hummus goes with everything ๐Ÿ˜‰

24 sneaux March 11, 2010 at 5:06 pm

So I have to ask…. was it plain hummus, or flavored? Because I could totally see it if it were plain hummus – it would almost be like PB&J. And I can also see the spinach on it. Heck there’s spinach with fruit in the Monster Green smoothies, so why not? When it’s fresh it has such a light taste. The only thing I’m questioning is the mushrooms…

25 Andrea of Care to Eat March 11, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Jelly is the new Hot Sauce! Too bad, because I don’t like jelly. ๐Ÿ™

26 Laura Georgina March 11, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Jelly is good on everything! I’ve never tried it with hummus but I’ll brave it if you say it’s good ๐Ÿ™‚

27 bobbi March 11, 2010 at 5:51 pm

You are so creative girl!

28 liz March 11, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Next thing we know, you will be combining hummus and almond butter. Now there’s a challenge for you. ! Oh, add some jelly to that mix too! ๐Ÿ™‚

29 Nicci@NiftyEats March 11, 2010 at 6:13 pm

This is really outside the box and now I’m intrigued to go buy some jelly and add it to my hummus sandwiches! Great idea.

30 Evan Thomas March 11, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Lol. I can’t believe you went there. Only a blogger

31 thefitbride March 11, 2010 at 6:29 pm

I’m glad you think it’s great…but I am way too skeptical of that one!

32 luckytastebuds March 11, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Meg, you have an UNCANNY way of inducing strong cravings inside of me…hahaha you can betcha i’m having something with pb and jelly for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ˜› muahhaha

That sandwich does sound good!

36 Cat March 11, 2010 at 9:28 pm

I’m not sure if you’ve tried this combo yet but spinach, nutella, & creamy almond butter w/ sea salt is amazing ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve even tried it with carrots instead of spinach!

37 runningwithsass March 11, 2010 at 10:00 pm

38 cara March 12, 2010 at 3:13 pm
