Got [chocolate] Milk?

by Meghann on February 23, 2010

Good Morning!

All the sunshine we have been enjoying the past few days has been taken over by fog and mist. Rumor has it the fog and mist will son be followed by cold and wind. πŸ™

At least we got a glimpse of spring weather and for now I’ll take what I can get. πŸ˜‰

This morning began my final week of training – or my β€˜taper’ week – before the Michelob Challenge this weekend.

FinalWKFebGasparilla

As you can see I only have two days of scheduled running before the big event. One easy run and cruise intervals – piece of cake. πŸ˜‰

Final2FebGasparilla

The poor weather forced me inside for my easy run this morning. On the treadmill the whole run took a total of 35 minutes and covered 3.8 miles.

Back in my apartment I was ready for a delicious and satisfying breakfast.

To enter leave a comment on this post with your favorite childhood after school snack.

I hate to admit it but I LOVED Little Debbies. I used to have one in my lunch box and another when I got home from school. Unfortunately my Little Debbies two-a-day habit caused me to burn out on them and now they are not the least bit appealing. The same goes for cheetos!

You have until tomorrow morning to enter. I will randomly draw a winner during my breakfast post.

Good Luck!

1 Katie February 23, 2010 at 9:54 am

My favorite was grilled cheese sandwiches after swim practice. I also burned out on them!

2 megzzwinsatlife February 23, 2010 at 9:55 am

I use to come home from school and have oreos.. NOM NOM NOM..

I hope the weather doesn’t get too cold for my arrival.. πŸ™

3 Runeatrepeat February 23, 2010 at 9:55 am

I cannot remember my favorite after school snack! That makes me sad. But, if I were a kid now I would go with graham crackers and chocolate milk probably.

4 foodfitnessandfreya February 23, 2010 at 9:55 am

Ooh my favourite childhood afternoon snack wa always when my gran used to pick me up from school on Tuesdays – she’d give me an orange, an Echo bar and a packet of crisps! Unhealthy but it was always special πŸ˜›
:O Your epic run challenge is soo close!! You must be excited πŸ˜€

5 Sara February 23, 2010 at 9:58 am

My mom and I would have cookies & cream ice cream while watching our tape of As The World Turns

6 Molly @thevegandorm February 23, 2010 at 9:58 am

Um, oreos? hahaha, how things change!

7 Amy February 23, 2010 at 10:02 am

Oooh. I loved peanut butter + graham crackers … Good stuff! It’s exciting that your challenge is so close — I’ll be ‘crossing my fingers’ that the weather is ideal for you πŸ™‚

8 Erin February 23, 2010 at 10:03 am

a dixie cup! (a kid-size ice cream cup)
It was soo good- not too much and it always left me satisfied

9 biz319 February 23, 2010 at 10:03 am

My daughter LOVES chocolate milk – so pick me Meghann – okay?! πŸ˜€

Those coconut snowballs were a holiday treat in my lunch bag – red for Valentine’s and Green for St. Patrick’s Day.

10 Jen February 23, 2010 at 10:04 am

My favorite childhood after-school snack was a tie between Nutty Bars and Apple Jacks. I remember running to the pantry as soon as I walked in the door to devour them. Not very healthy! I still hold a torch for Apple Jacks til this day, but I definitely do not care for Nutty Bars anymore. My tastebuds have morphed to appreciate yummier chocolate and peanut butter treats πŸ™‚

Good luck w/ your race this weekend! You must be SO pumped! It’s going to be a great accomplishment.

11 Laura February 23, 2010 at 10:04 am

i LOVED when i came home to the scent of freshly made chocolate chip cookies. every once in a while my mom would surprise us with homemade cookies when we got back from school πŸ™‚

12 Karen W February 23, 2010 at 10:06 am

I always loved nutter butters or fudge grahams. I think I got burned out too… they don’t sound good to me anymore. (thank goodness!)

13 Jessica February 23, 2010 at 10:07 am

I am with you on the Little Swiss Cake rolls….they did not last long at all.

14 Amandamoo February 23, 2010 at 10:08 am

I remember having an apple with peanut butter pretty much every day after school… still one of my favorite snacks!

15 Madeline - Greens and Jeans February 23, 2010 at 10:09 am

I’m a huge chocolate milk fan! My dad and I used to drink a glass after a long bike ride when I was in high school because it’s actually a great recovery drink!

16 Amelia February 23, 2010 at 10:10 am

As a child, I never had an after school snack. If anything I was given a Capri-Sun and sent outside to play until my Dad pulled in the driveway from work. We typically ate right after he came home (around 4pm) so my Mom always wanted us to be hungry for dinner.

I do love some chocolate milk, though! Especially organic. πŸ™‚ This would be the perfect prize, especially since I gave up chocolate for Lent!

17 AlisonJ February 23, 2010 at 10:12 am

I used to always drink chocolate milk with grilled cheese! Now whenever I eat grilled cheese, I am always kicking myself for not having chocolate milk on hand!

My favorite after school treat was Kraft mac & cheese…let’s just say that once my body stopped growing, I had to stop that treat!

18 maren February 23, 2010 at 10:13 am

ants on a log!!! (celery with PB and raisins)… or kraft mac n cheese! yum

19 Madeline February 23, 2010 at 10:18 am

It hasn’t stopped snowing in PA! My favorite after school snack was bagel bites. I could go through 12, easy. In hindsight, perhaps not the best idea, hahaha.

20 Alyssa February 23, 2010 at 10:19 am

My favorite after school snack was definitely ants on a log – celery, pb, and raisins…..I actually had it just yesterday with a little twist…my log was a carrot instead of celery!

21 Alyx February 23, 2010 at 10:20 am

I was a cookie kid myself– especially oreos! loved dunking them into milk (and hey, chocolate milk would have been even more amazing, ha!)

22 Suzanne February 23, 2010 at 10:21 am

Oreos and a cold glass of milk–YUM!

23 Maria Ann February 23, 2010 at 10:21 am

I used to always have a chewy granola bar πŸ™‚

24 Sara February 23, 2010 at 10:21 am

Favorite snack was a bowl of Life cereal! Or tortilla chips with cheese melted on them.

25 Steph February 23, 2010 at 10:22 am

I grew up eating really healthy foods in general. But my favorite snack was tortilla chips with cream cheese slathered on them. Sounds weird but it’s good….try it!

26 Emily February 23, 2010 at 10:25 am

I was never allowed to cook using the stove or oven when my mom was out so I would always have her make a batch of Rotel dip so I could throughout the week. I LOVE that stuff! I would also sometimes have some Chef Boy R.D (or however you spell it!!). I have never been a sugar kind of gal, I prefer salty!..with the exception of STAR CRUNCHS! LOVE THOSE BABIES!!! My brother and I would always fight for the last one.

27 meyergirl February 23, 2010 at 10:29 am

I’m not sure what my favorite after school snack was. Junk, I’m sure, or I wouldn’t have had to lose 50 lbs. my junior year of high school.

28 Kelly February 23, 2010 at 10:29 am

What a great give away, I bet my kids would love that chocolate milk! I only drink chocolate milk when I go out to breakfast, nothing beats homefries, toast, eggs and chocolate milk!! When I was a kid, my Dad would pick up a strawberry rhubarb pie from the local bakery every Tuesday, I couldn’t wait to get home and have a slice of that pie as a snack a couple time a week…and I too was a little debbie lover, oatmeal cream pies, star crunches, and jelly rolls..

29 megan February 23, 2010 at 10:33 am

mine was also little debbie! Oatmeal creme pies are the best! However, I’m not sick of them. I could still eat them every day I think. I even made some homemade ones for my blog! πŸ™‚

30 Amanda February 23, 2010 at 10:33 am

crackers and cheese or publix brand vanilla fro yo!

31 Eileen February 23, 2010 at 10:34 am

I used to loveeee the little hostess cupcakes with the white loopy icing design.. i’ve tried the 100 calorie packs of them that they make now and they just aren’t as good!

32 Kelly February 23, 2010 at 10:37 am

Ohhh my fav after school snack was bagel bites! Now I want pizza bagels, great. Ohh soo yummy.

33 Erin February 23, 2010 at 10:39 am

I love their regular Milk…I haven’t tried the chocolate though. My favorite afternoon snack was the frozen potato skins that you heat up. My best friend and I would make them serveral times a week which did not help me when I was already a little over weight growing up.

34 Michaela February 23, 2010 at 10:39 am

fruit snacks!

35 Hope February 23, 2010 at 10:40 am

I loved to eat a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal when I got home from school! So good…still love it to this day.

36 Annie (Running with Forks and Spoons) February 23, 2010 at 10:40 am

I used to, and still do, love having half a peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole wheat! My parents forced me to be a good eater at a very young age πŸ™‚

37 Elisa February 23, 2010 at 10:41 am

Crackers and Peanut Butter!

38 meghan s. February 23, 2010 at 10:42 am

I loved cereal of any kind.
I was always a thin kid but I remember in the 90’s when everything was “low fat” and “fat free” my go to was frosted flakes with skim milk or any other “fat free” cereal and skim milk. I would always think fat free flakes and fat free milk I will NEVER get fat. I had no idea what a calorie was, hahahah.
I would love to try Horizon Milk!

39 Margaret February 23, 2010 at 10:45 am

My favorite after-school snack was an apple with peanut butter! It’s still my go-to afternoon snack at work!

40 Darci February 23, 2010 at 10:45 am

Mmmm!! I <3 chocolate milk!!

fav after school snack…def mom's homemade cookies!! otherwise it was pb toast!

41 Brandi February 23, 2010 at 10:46 am

ha, little debbies were my afterschool snack, too! We almost always had swiss cake rolls, star crunch, or oatmeal cream pies in the house πŸ™‚

42 Willa February 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

Oreos were my treat!

43 Marcie February 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

PB&J…times haven’t changed!

44 Sarah February 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

My favorite afternoon snack (especially in the cold Chicago winters) was hot chocolate and graham crackers…so yum!

45 thefitbride February 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

I always used to have half a peanut butter sandwich or a granola bar!

My fiance would DIE if I won this. Chocolate milk is one of his favorite things on the planet!

46 Carolyn February 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

Drake’s Devil Dogs are SOOOO good

47 JL February 23, 2010 at 10:49 am

My grandma would put out graham crackers and cover them with fluff and hershey’s syrup—those were the days…

48 Britt @ Runnerbelle February 23, 2010 at 10:49 am

Half of a PB sandwich, still a fav! Happy taper!

49 MB February 23, 2010 at 10:49 am

Hostess Snack Cakes were a great afterschool snack

50 Jill February 23, 2010 at 10:49 am

I’m not just saying this because of the nature of the giveaway, but my favorite after-school snack was chocolate milk. Specifically, Nestle’s Quik.

When I made it I used to pretend I was Julia Child hosting my own cooking show and I would narrate each step in the process, explaining how to get the milk out of the fridge, proper cup selection, how much Quik to put in, and the ultimate in stirring technique.

I’m sure my parents thought I was crazy.

51 Lucy February 23, 2010 at 10:50 am

I did and still do love granola bars

52 Anna February 23, 2010 at 10:51 am

Tortilla cheese rollup!! Used to have them every day πŸ™‚

53 Megan February 23, 2010 at 10:52 am

I loved goldfish!

54 jenna February 23, 2010 at 10:54 am

55 jodie February 23, 2010 at 10:54 am

My fav after school snack were chocolate chip cookies.

56 Tiffany February 23, 2010 at 10:55 am

Oooh I love chocolate milk! My favorite childhood after school snack was oreos. And I mean like half a sleeve at a time. =X And if it was Girl Scout cookie season, I would have half a sleeve of Thin Mints instead. I love my chocolatey cookies! And maybe I can dunk a Thin Mint or two in this Horizon chocolate milk now too. πŸ˜‰

57 Jessie February 23, 2010 at 10:55 am

I always loved Fruit Roll Ups. They weren’t filling at all but they tasted so good. My Memaw always kept 2 or 3 boxes on hand.

58 Kristin February 23, 2010 at 10:56 am

I have to agree with the aforementioned chocolate chip cookies. We didn’t have them often, but when we did it was a great day!

59 bakinandeggs February 23, 2010 at 10:56 am

My favorite childhood snack was popcorn and (fittingly for this giveaway) chocolate milk! Love the sweet and salty combo.

60 jess February 23, 2010 at 10:56 am

I loved Oreos and milk! I would have the dipping down to a science – about 8 seconds each and it would be the perfect soggy mess :c)

61 Erin Eats and Exercises February 23, 2010 at 10:58 am

My favorite after school snak growing up was Poptarts (smores). Its crazy how things change, I cant even look at them now!!

62 Alexis February 23, 2010 at 10:58 am

My favorite snack was sliced apples with cheese – such a good combo!

63 Errign February 23, 2010 at 10:59 am

I never ate after school snacks! But I did love Cheetos and chocolate chip cookies!

64 marie February 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

I usually had a very small sandwich for my after school snack.

However, I also had Little Debbies for breakfast (!!), and you’re not the only one who’s now burned out on them!

65 Amy February 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

Cookies with milk. πŸ˜€ YUM!

66 Diane February 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

My favorite snack was chocolate chip cookies with a glass of really cold milk.

67 Jessica February 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

We loved many of the Hostess snacks – the chocolate cupcakes, but most definitely their fruit pies. I looked at the nutrition stats of one in the grocery store a few months ago and almost dropped it in shock! Too bad, because they were so yummy…

68 Kellie February 23, 2010 at 11:01 am

Cinnamon toast crunch cereal was my favorite. I loved that stuff.
My kids could drink an entire gallon of chocolate milk a day. That is definately their favorite snack.

69 Jenny February 23, 2010 at 11:01 am

Ritz crackers…they were so good, I could eat an entire sleeve without realizing it!

70 Kelly February 23, 2010 at 11:03 am

My son is addicted to Horizon chocolate milk boxes! My favorite after school snack was my mom’s canned plums and peaches. YUM!

71 Nicole February 23, 2010 at 11:05 am

I was always at some sort of sport practice, so I don’t really have an after school snack. But, if I got home from practice and dinner wasn’t ready it was straight to the lemonade and some cheese!!!

72 Lauren February 23, 2010 at 11:06 am

I remember eating crackers a lot (back when crackers were good, cookies were bad – we didn’t have a lot of “junk” food in the house). I love chocolate milk, I wish we had that in the house when I was little!!

73 Nicole February 23, 2010 at 11:08 am

I lovedddd poptarts! ANY kind, and any time of the day! πŸ™‚

74 Christy February 23, 2010 at 11:09 am

My mom would put cheddar cheese on top of triscuits and bake them. Delicious!

75 dianacheung February 23, 2010 at 11:11 am

fave childhood snack were these tiny toon adventure fruit snacks. HOLY MOLY. I ate a whole box one time when my mom left them out. they never bought them again.

76 Sara February 23, 2010 at 11:15 am

I used to make a can of tuna when I came home from school and ate it with pretzels! I’ve been a vegetarian for about 12 years, so that sounds pretty nasty to me now!

77 'laina February 23, 2010 at 11:15 am

Sandwiches, usually bologna (which I won’t touch the stuff these days) or PB&J. Yay for chocolate milk!

78 Ashley February 23, 2010 at 11:18 am

I think my favorite childhood snack is probably a tie between Little Debbie Fudge Rounds (I’d “sneak” them out of the snack jar–my mom told me years later that she could totally hear me sneaking extra ones) and mayonnaise, slices of turkey, and American cheese piled on saltine crackers. Funny, I never eat either of those things anymore, but I’m currently eating Nut Thins, havarti cheese, and salami for a snack–guess my tastes have just evolved!

79 Kara February 23, 2010 at 11:18 am

Dear lord, I love that chocolate milk. I used to hate drinking milk, but once I got pregnant, I started drinking Horizon chocolate milk like it’s my job. I can easily go through 1-2 cartons a week, which is an expensive habit!

After school snack? I remember being a huge fan of pizza bagel bites.

80 allie February 23, 2010 at 11:21 am

mmmm. chocloate milk! love it!! my favortie afterschool snack had to be those little mini entemanns chocolate chip cookies. loved them! i associate them with being little.

81 j.l. February 23, 2010 at 11:22 am

when i was a little kid, it was definitely e.l. fudge elf sandwhich cookies or tastykake jelly krimpets.

in h.s., it was an odd combo – turkey hill lemonade using twizzlers with the ends bitten off for straws with honey roasted peanuts. yum!

82 Brianna February 23, 2010 at 11:24 am

I think my favorite after school snack was “ants on a log”- celery with peanut butter and chocolate chips πŸ™‚

83 Amisha February 23, 2010 at 11:24 am

I have to admit I was a total junk food junkie as a kid. I loved those Krunchers jalapeno flavored chips! Still do, but not very often these days.

84 eaternotarunner February 23, 2010 at 11:24 am

Peanut butter on white bread….I didn’t even like Jelly growing up!

Graham crackers and milk. Mmmm. I still love it as an adult!

87 Kate February 23, 2010 at 11:27 am

My favorite childhood snack was 3 oreos and a big glass of milk! I hate oreos by themselves, but when they get all soggy in milk… so yummy!

88 Jordan February 23, 2010 at 11:29 am

I’m right there with you on Little Debbies. Loved them! I will buy a box once or twice a year now, and I even live where they are produced. I once worked at an ad agency that did work for them, and our AE brought back boxes and boxes from a meeting. We were in love.

89 Heather (Heather's Dish) February 23, 2010 at 11:29 am

i wouldn’t mind getting those coupons…not for me, but my husband LOVES that stuff! hope you enjoy your day, even if it’s not super sunny and gorgeous πŸ™‚

90 Katie @ Health for the Whole Self February 23, 2010 at 11:31 am

My favorite after-school snack was the Little Debbies Oatmeal Pies. I haven’t had one in YEARS!!! I wonder if I’d even still like them!!!

91 Nadine February 23, 2010 at 11:32 am

My favorite after school snack was probably the lunchables with the nachos, cheese dip, and salsa OR string cheese! Cheese is definitely still my weakness.

92 Jen February 23, 2010 at 11:32 am

Spaghetti-os after soccer practice – such a bizarre choice but I loved it back then!

93 Shannon February 23, 2010 at 11:33 am

Yay chocolate milk! I loved Cheetos as a kid. Mmmmm πŸ˜‰

94 Krysta February 23, 2010 at 11:35 am

My favorite after school snack was hostess cupcakes, the ones with the swirly on the top and filled with creme! They too disgust me now and i can’t remember the last time I’ve had one… definitely for the better!

95 whitinspired February 23, 2010 at 11:35 am

My favorite was totino’s pizza rolls. I guess that’s what happens when your mom works and you’re responsible for yourself after school!

96 Lacey February 23, 2010 at 11:50 am

Mine too…and I always ended up burning my mouth on them or having them explode πŸ™‚

97 whitinspired February 23, 2010 at 11:52 am

haha yeah…they would always be burning lava hot!!

98 runningwithsass February 23, 2010 at 11:37 am

either little debbies or goldfish crackers! I am a chocoholic so most likely it was little debbie nutty bar things!

99 Johanna B February 23, 2010 at 11:37 am

My favorite after school snack was cheese toast with applesauce. Most people think it sounds yucky but I still have it occasionally. It’s comfort food for me.

100 Amy @ Second City Randomness February 23, 2010 at 11:37 am

Little Debbies were amazingness! All those little snack cake things- Nutty Bars, Swiss Rolls…. couldn’t get enough!

No wonder I have a complex when it comes to limiting sugar intake! πŸ™‚

101 Matt February 23, 2010 at 11:38 am

HONEY BUNS! Wow I haven’t had one of those in a long time…

102 Rachel in NC February 23, 2010 at 11:42 am

I love Horizon milk!

My favorite after school was (and still is, now that I’m a teacher) cheese and crackers!

103 Leah February 23, 2010 at 11:42 am

My favorite snack was chocolate and vanilla swirled yogurt with rainbow sprinkles. My dad would pick me up from school and we’d stop by the local deli for soft serve yogurt once or twice a week.

104 Cheryl H. February 23, 2010 at 11:47 am

My favorite after school snack was always Hydrox Cookies (kind of like Oreos) and a cold glass of milk. And of course, you dunk the cookies in the milk. Yum!!

105 Maureen February 23, 2010 at 11:48 am

Very random – tunafish on crackers! Delicious. And chocolate milk would go well with it!

106 Jes February 23, 2010 at 11:48 am

Horizon milk is really tasty! My favorite after school snack was always stove-popped popcorn. I am pretty sure that I could eat popcorn every day!

107 Lacey February 23, 2010 at 11:49 am

Mmm, I love chocolate milk! My favorite childhood snack was a tie between pizza rolls and fruit snacks, depending on whether I wanted something sweet or something savory that day πŸ™‚

108 madisonruns February 23, 2010 at 11:49 am

Yum!

My favorite snack by far was string cheese!

109 Jessica February 23, 2010 at 11:53 am

I never had after school snacks. But when my dad had money (every end of the month when the disability cheque would arrive) he’d splurge on my favourite ice cream and that would be dinner, breakfast and lunch until it was gone.

110 Christine February 23, 2010 at 11:53 am

I loved honey nut cheerios and skim milk in high school. In elementary school I loved cheddar goldfish or pretzels and milk. I just love milk! Maybe I will win!

111 Beth G February 23, 2010 at 11:53 am

I used to LOVE Dunkaroos when I was little. They were the best surprise ever because we usually didn’t get to eat junk food. So every once in a great while my mom would slip these in our lunch box.

112 feetinmotion February 23, 2010 at 11:54 am

My childhood after school snack was definitely fruit snacks, cookies or chips! Hah, so healthy, i know!

We also had a glimpse of Spring, then BAM gone. πŸ™

113 Elizabeth February 23, 2010 at 11:54 am

I love chocolate milk! And my favorite after school snack was Kool-Aid and Cheez Its.

114 Katie C February 23, 2010 at 11:57 am

Swiss Miss Rolls! I used to peel the chocolate topping off first, and then try and unroll the cake part! So fun! πŸ™‚ I haven’t had one in years!

115 Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 23, 2010 at 11:58 am

I loved oreos. I still do but now I enjoy them in moderation. Oreos and milk is seriously sooo good!

116 amanda @ fake ginger February 23, 2010 at 12:02 pm

I loved instant pudding. I wouldn’t add as much milk as it called for so it was super thick. So gross now that I think about it.

117 Jen February 23, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I loved celery and peanut butter! and my family and I love milk!

118 NYCRunnerGirl February 23, 2010 at 12:07 pm

Doritos! Oh man, why did my mom let me get away with that?

119 shayne February 23, 2010 at 12:08 pm

I loved eating animal crackers dipped in a big glass of milk. oh how i miss those days!!

120 Caitlin in MD February 23, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I loved to put shredded cheese on crackers, sprinkle spices (like oregano and garlic powder) on top, and microwave. I also liked graham crackers with mini marshmallows microwaved on top (like s’mores without the chocolate) and ants on a log!

121 Lauren February 23, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Velveeta cheese melted on top of corn chips…I loved it then and it sounds SO repulsive now!

122 andrea February 23, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I don’t think I ever had an afternoon snack growing up! I can’t live with out one now.

123 Megan Sexton February 23, 2010 at 12:17 pm

My favorite after school snack was sliced bananas swimming in milk. Yum, I think I’ll have to try it again soon.

124 Joann February 23, 2010 at 12:19 pm

My mom never really kept too much junk around the house, so I would go to my neighbor’s house after school where her grandma would give us Pepsi and Cheez-its…I savored it! The combo still has a place in my heart =)

That and Zebra Cakes…oh man….Zebra Cakes…

125 emily February 23, 2010 at 12:19 pm

My favorite snack was baby carrots. I did love chocolate milk though.

126 Emily February 23, 2010 at 12:20 pm

In high school i would eat popcorn, or cheese and crackers with a huge glass of milk with ovaltine πŸ™‚ . Younger than that and i think i just ate whatever my mom would feed me, typically fruit, or cereal. We never had junk/snacky foods in the house so that wasn’t an option.

127 maggie February 23, 2010 at 12:20 pm

the very simple, peanut butter or cheese with ritz crackers, did it for me!!!

128 Amanda February 23, 2010 at 12:21 pm

I used to love pizza bites! I’d eat them almost every day after school! Now if I even look at them, I’d probably gain 5 lbs!

129 emilyr February 23, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Cereal and Toast after swim practice… I have three sisters and we would go through boxes of cereal and loaves of bread πŸ™‚

130 Erin February 23, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Here’s something weird: I hate drinking plain milk but LOVE drinking chocolate milk.

Growing up my mom used to buy these Little Debbie cakes called Ho-Hos. Except we called them Chocolate Wienies. Those were the best!

131 Evan Thomas February 23, 2010 at 12:26 pm

For me it was always nachos with melted mexican cheese on it

132 lily @ Lily's Health Pad February 23, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I’ve never had organic milk!

My favorite snack was “ants on a log.” My mom spread pb on celery sticks and stuck raisins on top.

133 Lauren February 23, 2010 at 12:30 pm

I use in inhale fruit rolls ups as a child. I think I went through 2-3 boxes a week of these things! πŸ™‚

134 Beth February 23, 2010 at 12:31 pm

Hm…I think my favorite after school snack was ants on a log! Anything covered in peanut butter is good in my book.

135 Olivia February 23, 2010 at 12:31 pm

I loved Little Debbies Nutty Buddy bars. I used to eat a pack of those when I got home from school. They are still so good!

136 Abbey M February 23, 2010 at 12:33 pm

My mom would never buy the little debbie snacks so the only time I got those was after soccer games (when other kids moms would bring them as snacks!) But i do recall eating cereal a lot after school. BTW, I love chocolate milk!

137 Cat February 23, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I actually never did the after school snack thing since I played three sports and by the time I made it home after practice it was dinner time.
Now, my after work snack is chips and salsa. I LOVE salsa

138 Lindsay Lu February 23, 2010 at 12:36 pm

I loved Bagel Bites..not so much anymore!! πŸ™‚

139 Beth February 23, 2010 at 12:38 pm

I loved the oatmeal cookie pie thingies that little debbie makes. GROSS! I also liked to microwave some cheese on tortilla chips and i LOVED ramen noodles too–not really a snack, but hey, what can ya say ?!

140 SaraBarnett February 23, 2010 at 12:40 pm

My favorite after school snack was a big glass of chocolate milk and some animal crackers. Still love it to this day!

141 Valerie February 23, 2010 at 12:45 pm

I loved having milk and oreos after school! So good, especially the mini oreos!

142 tmart February 23, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Mmm, moms chocolate chips cookies! She always let me have two, but on special occasions a 3rd one was allowed! πŸ™‚

143 Jenn February 23, 2010 at 12:47 pm

My favorite snack was carrots and celery with peanut butter. It is still one of my favorite snacks.

144 Caitie February 23, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Always was and still is grilled cheese! Though back then it was kraft american slices, not so much anymore.

145 Elizabeth February 23, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I loved having Oreos–dunked in milk of course! πŸ˜‰

146 Rae February 23, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Oatmeal pies

Well, at least it had oats in it, right? πŸ˜›

147 missyrayn February 23, 2010 at 12:52 pm

I loved Zebra cakes and especially when they were shaped like christmas trees.

148 Ashlee February 23, 2010 at 12:55 pm

My 4 year old nephew got me hooked on horizon’s vanilla milk, so good. I would love to try the chocolate milk. I, too, used to love Little Debbies. The starbrite ones and swiss cakes were my favorite.

149 Cellabella February 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm

That’s so funny! My favorite snacks were also Little Debbies and Cheese Doodles (not cheetos, but close enough, I was into the puffy texture). I used to love to unroll the Little Debbie swiss cake rolls apart and lick out the cream filling. Okay, so things are a little different now that I’m older, but oh, those were good memories. I still love me some chocolate milk though πŸ™‚

150 Julia February 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm

My favorite childhood snack was definitely Sweetarts…love them.
I also really loved cereal, especially Cocoa Krispies…Yum!

151 Katie February 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm

After school, I’d always come home and have four Oreos with a glass of milk and enjoy my snack while watching “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”

152 Elizabeth February 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm

I used to love pizza rolls! we didn’t have them often, but that is the yummiest after school snack. πŸ˜€

153 Debbie February 23, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Frozen ding dongs or grilled cheese sandwiches were the the go to items at my house growing up. I haven’t had a ding dong in ages. Maybe I should go buy one and enjoy the taste of my youth?

154 Jen February 23, 2010 at 1:02 pm

My favorite afterschool snack was wierd. My Mom would dip zucchini in egg and a little flour and saute them up. They were wicked good.

155 Karissa @ CardioFoodie February 23, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I used to really like Pop Tarts or baby carrots. I have had a long obsession with carrots.

156 Stephanie February 23, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Handi-snacks!

157 wecookwhenwecan February 23, 2010 at 1:07 pm

I went through a pepsi, oreo and dorito phase in middle school. My mom didnt buy that stuff but my friends mom did. When I think about it I realize how gross it was!

158 Missy Maintains February 23, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Oreos with milk were always my favorite!

159 MaryZ February 23, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Chocolate chip cookies and milk…

160 poiseinparma February 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Is it bad that I can’t remember any after school snacks?! Probably I was WAY too over involved at after school activties. I do unfortunately remember way too many trips to McDonald’s for chicken salad shakers before drama club rehearsals…

161 Annie February 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Angel hair pasta w/ parmesan cheese.. more like a meal, but I would skip lunch. I have no idea how my metabolism put up w/that for so long!

162 ashley February 23, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Apple slices, crackers, and peanut butter!

163 kristin February 23, 2010 at 1:32 pm

peanut butter crackers – i still love them too πŸ™‚

164 Samantha J February 23, 2010 at 1:32 pm

My favorite after school snack had to be cereal! I swear, that’s all I used to eat, and it was usually Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I could eat like a half a box in one sitting.

165 jenn February 23, 2010 at 1:33 pm

168 Carolyn C. February 23, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I ate those Little Debbie oatmeal-n-cream sandwiches mostly…. maybe some apple too. Not too healthy, now that I am grown with my own kiddos! Thanks for the opportunity and your blog!

169 Sean February 23, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Any Tastykake cupcakes. I haven’t had them in years since I moved away from Pennsylvania and they only exist in “cheese steak specialty shops” in California like some ancient relic from the past. I guess it’s a good thing they’re not out here because I can’t resist them. yum.

170 Erin February 23, 2010 at 1:43 pm

My favorite after school snacks were oreos dipped in milk, fried potatoes topped with cottage cheese, and ramen noodles. We didn’t have a lot of snack food in the house so I had to make due with what we had since I’d get home from school and be starving. Speghettio’s were a big hit as well!

171 Martha February 23, 2010 at 1:43 pm

My fave after-school snack used to be Ritz crackers with sharp cheddar cheese. Yum! I’m still a student (in grad school), so *now* my fave “after-school” snack is Greek yogurt with fruit and granola. How things have changed!

172 Paige February 23, 2010 at 1:47 pm

My favorite after school snack growing up was nachos. I would get a few tortilla chips, add cheese, and pop them in the microwave. Not the healthiest snack, for sure!

173 Jenny February 23, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Oatmeal raisin cookies or instant mashed potatoes! I still love the cookies but the potatoes are off my list now–just no longer appealing.

174 theprocessofhealing February 23, 2010 at 1:48 pm

How cool!! Peanut butter and jelly sammies!

175 Christie @ Honoring Health February 23, 2010 at 1:52 pm

186 jackie February 23, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Great breakfast! So bright and cheery!

188 Avery February 23, 2010 at 2:15 pm

Coincidentally, my favorite after-school snack was chocolate milk and graham crackers!! I was a “make my own chocolate milk” kid! I’ve loved it ever since! I’m also still addicted to graham crackers. Old after-school habits die hard! πŸ™‚

189 JessicaE February 23, 2010 at 2:25 pm

Thanks Meghann!

196 Amanda @ Cakes and Ale February 23, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I used to make myself mac n cheese (Kraft!) after school. Or nachos with salsa. Not the most nutritious, but I loved it!

197 Anne P February 23, 2010 at 2:48 pm

You know I can’t even remember?!?! I’m sure cookies of some form. And I’m a huge chocolate milk fan πŸ™‚ I remember having the strawberry one, too… mmmm.

198 Ellie February 23, 2010 at 2:50 pm

My favorite after-school snack was hot cocoa with whipped cream (my mom would make homemade whipped cream) in the winter. Or cheese and crackers at my best friend’s house. Yu,!

200 Katie K. February 23, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I used to LOVE making cheese toast in my neighbor/BFF’s toaster oven. My mom insisted it would taste the same if I made it in the oven, but I never believed her. I realize now that she’s right and have to stop myself from making 4-5 pieces when I get in the mood.
Also, I really love Horizon’s chocolate milk. It doesn’t stick around long in our fridge!

I was all about oreos & milk! πŸ™‚

204 Diana H. February 23, 2010 at 3:04 pm

I can’t quite remember what I ate after school! I know in middle and high school it would be fast food. I think in elementary school, I’d have a large bowl of cereal like Frosted Flakes. I loved the sugary goodness and how that made the milk so sweet! It totally contrasts what I eat after I get home from classes now. I had a veggie sandwich made with sandwich thins, red pepper hummus, spinach, tomato, onion, avocado, swiss cheese and dashes of salt and pepper with a side of cantaloupe for lunch today and it was delicious!

205 meghan February 23, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Bread! It used to be my favorite food…

My husband would love me even more if I won these coupons!

Good luck on your race this weekend Meghann!

207 sarah l February 23, 2010 at 3:12 pm

My favorite after school ritual happened once a week when my mom would take me to a little cafe called The Carrot Patch during my sister’s dance lesson. She would let me pick out a treat – I always chose either a brownie or a lemon bar. I would eat it soooo slowly to make it last!

208 jessica February 23, 2010 at 3:13 pm

My favorite after school snack was string cheese!!

209 Wendy February 23, 2010 at 3:18 pm

210 Paige February 23, 2010 at 3:22 pm

I loved animal crackers!

231 Erin K February 23, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Yum! I love chocolate milk! My favorite after school snack was apples with peanut butter or some popcorn with apples on the side (maybe it’s because I’m from WA but I love apples!). Little Debbie Shortcake rolls. I only had them a handful of times but remember how delicious they were. It would be breakfast if my mom and I were out early in the morning-brings back nice memories. I haven’t had one in over 10 years I am sure…

239 Heather ODonnell February 23, 2010 at 6:19 pm

My sister and I would take some slices of cheese and melt them on a plate and them scoop up the melted cheese with butter knives. I’m not sure how we got started on that, but I’m pretty sure we started doing it as soon as we learned how to use the microwave.

240 Heather ODonnell February 23, 2010 at 6:19 pm

My sister and I would take some slices of cheese and melt them on a plate and them scoop up the melted cheese with butter knives. I’m not sure how we got started on that, but I’m pretty sure we started doing it as soon as we learned how to use the microwave. I guess that is just how we roll in Wisconsin.

241 Ashley February 23, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Peanut butter on crackers. Wheat thins and cream cheese. Guac and chips. Can you tell I’m a dipper? Thank goodness I have a fridge at work. I think I’d starve otherwise.

My dad and mom had competing baked goods- Dad’s homemade brownies and Mom’s homemade chocolate chips cookies. I would enjoy either of these after school whenever they were fresh (which was most days!)

250 georgiemuffin February 23, 2010 at 7:50 pm

I loved a cookie from the grocery store when my mom would take us grocery shopping after school. I always felt like the bakery people were giving my brother and I special treatment with free cookies just to find out that when I was older that mom really had to pay for them at the checkout. Loved those cookies.

I LOVE chocolate milk! I usually get the Silk light version, but would love to try Horizon.

My favorite after school snack was any cut up veggies… but I would ruin them by drowning them in ranch :/

Reading all of these comments makes me hungry! And brings back great memories. I can’t decide what my favorite after school snack was – I think it rotated with frequency. Some I remember were cinnamon-sugar toast, Golden Grahams cereal, and homemade chocolate chip cookies πŸ™‚

I loved Little Debbie snacks, too! I had quite the obsession with them – especially the Swiss Rolls! But I’d have to say my favorite snack was Pringles. My grandmother ALWAYS had them with lunch when we came over to her house. Delish!

I loved to snack on cereal after school. I’d enjoy a big bowl of frosted mini-wheats with a banana.

I used to love pretzels and applesauce, or pretzels and chocolate pudding…or (if Mom was hitting Wendy’s for a Diet Coke), a small fries and a Frosty.

I’m a weird one. I like salty-sweet dippings!

My grandma used to fry up dumplings for me everyday after school. Gosh those things were delicious.

I loved (and still love!) “ants” on a “log!”

282 Katie February 24, 2010 at 3:13 am

Speaking of little Debbie…my fave snack was the Nutty Bars. I haven’t had one in many years though, guess they lost their appeal as well. (or I realized how unhealthy they are!)

But anyway, I loved apples and peanut butter!
