Short Hair and Running

by Meghann on January 30, 2010

Good morning!

This morning Derek and I woke up bright and early (well, bright and early for him – sleeping in for me) and took off on a beautiful 5 mile run.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this on here or not, but Derek is training for the Gasparilla 15k. I designed a training plan for him that he has been following diligently. This will be his longest distance to date and he is very excited about achieving this new goal.

The race is just over a month away and I know he will rock it. :)

We completed the 5 miles in just over an hour. We took it easy and walked here and there when Derek needed it.

On the run we discussed creating an elaborate delicious breakfast when we got back to the apartment, but by the time the run was over all I really wanted was a big bowl of cereal with pumpkin yogurt.

Mmm… love it.

  • 1/3 cup Honey Puffed Rice
  • 1/3 cup Kashi Go Lean
  • 1/3 cup Kashi Warm Cinnamon H2H
  • 1/3 cup Homemade Granola
  • Pumpkin Yogurt (Plain yogurt + pumpkin + pumpkin spice)
  • Chelsea’s Cranberry Jam
  • 1/2 Apple

I knew the Cranberry Jam + Pumpkin combination would be fantastic! Yum!

A few of you were inquiring on running with my new shorter do. So, I thought I would fill you in with my little secret: Pigtails!

IMG_7926.JPG

My hair is too short for a ponytail at the moment, but pigtails work just fine!

I also am a big fan of head bands or bobby pins for keeping the bangs out of my face. :)

Derek and I randomly decided to head to Universal for the day. Hopefully since its the middle of January the crowds shouldn’t be too bad. *Fingers Crossed*

I rock the pigtails with my shorter hair too! I always tell the girl who cuts my hair that she can do whatever she wants to it as long as I can somehow pull it out of my face when I’m running.

Yay for Derek and good luck to him with the race! I think it’s so cool how you have inspired him. Many times we take on the unhealthy habits of our loved ones but for you guys, just the opposite. So cool :)

Pigtails are cute! I use bobypins to keep my bangs out of my face. Headbands never stay on my head.. don’t know why that is.

Yay for Derek, good luck to him!
Your hair looks really good like that. It’s a challenge to come up for ideas to style short hair, especially when it’s thick!
Your breakfast looks really good too!

Cute pigtails, I just chopped my hair in Dec and I’m starting to get annoyed that it falls out of the ponytail! Maybe I’ll try some pigtails.

Cute! I don’t understand people who run without pulling their hair back — it would drive me crazy!

Well done Derek! That is so exciting about the 15k. Keep up the good work. You will do great!

My hair is about your length and I rock the pigtails when I run too! I think it looks cute!

yes! pigtails are key. i was rocking the double pigtail for a while (the top half in one rubberband, and then another big rubberband for the rest of the hair.) because my hair was so short! I’m so close to a full ponytail now and i cant wait! i will miss my pigtails a little bit though :)

have fun with the short hair!

Love thie pigtails! I’ve never thought of that. My hair is quite short too, and usually I look like a Chinese gymnast with all the ckips and bobby pins needed to keep in it in a ponytail.

pig tails are the best for running with short hair! as are the american apparel head bands- they actually stay on your head and don’t move- every other headband I try falls off- these dont

Love your new hair color and cut! It looks really nice.

Question for you–when you run (especially races) where do you keep your camera, phone, snacks, etc. Do you have a “fanny pack” type thing or just stuff everything in pockets?

Like hell you need bronzer….you look great! Mine is too short for even pigtails, I go with headband, just the top half, or my favorite…wait for the sweat to build up the first few miles and then slick it down!

I’m a post late, but your hair cut is adorable! I’m planning on getting a very similar cut after I run my half marathon (the pigtail thing doesn’t work for me).

I feel your pain on short workout hair! I lose count of the bobby pins.

Let us know how the Harry Potter stuff looks at Universal!

I have a cut similar to yours – but a bit shorter and I am a huge fan of either a headband or a hat when I’m running!
