A Problem

by Meghann on January 6, 2010

I have a problem with free stuff. Basically if its free I’m all over it!

I have a wide collection of junk now because of it – millions of free pens, notepads, odd things I’m not sure what their true use is, and various other items.

I also collect free food, which is where my snack comes from today. Even though I usually fly fully prepared with snacks and meals, I still have a problem turning down the free snack being passed around the cabin.

Typically I select my favorite option of the snack basket and save it for another occasion. The honey grahams I enjoyed this morning were from my flight to St. Louis at the beginning of December I believe.

There is actually a package of Wheat Thins in my cabinet at the moment from when I flew to San Diego in May. lol Those just may end up in the trash though. 🙂

My lunch was AWESOME.

You can never go wrong with the combination of cheese, tabouli, & hummus stuffed in a pita.

Nor can you go wrong with a side of fresh fruit and a pickle.

I love light, refreshing lunches like these. They filled me up without bringing me down. 🙂

Back to work!

Oooh…definitely have the same problem! Guess it’s not a bad one to have 🙂

2 MelissaNibbles January 6, 2010 at 2:41 pm

The fruit looks so fresh and colorful!

You should consider donating some of your free stuff to your local food pantry.

3 Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen January 6, 2010 at 2:43 pm

pickles are what make lunches, i’m convinced! free stuff is so great…i still collect free stuff i don’t need; I think it must be a leftover habit from college 🙂

4 Karla January 6, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Who doesn’t love free stuff?

5 Evan Thomas January 6, 2010 at 2:45 pm

I have such problems throwing away food, lol, even if I did get it free

6 Lindsay January 6, 2010 at 2:46 pm

What a pretty and colorful lunch 🙂 I love those meals that make you feel great!

7 runningwithsass January 6, 2010 at 2:47 pm

yum I love strawberries! those are so pretty!

I am a hoarder and if something is free I take it too, so don’t feel bad!

8 Jenna January 6, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Yummy lunch!!

9 megan January 6, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Your lunches always look so fresh and summery! i want to try that tabouli.
i love free food too, who doesn’t? 🙂

10 meyergirl January 6, 2010 at 2:51 pm

I think I have a bigger problem of not receiving enough free food. LOL

11 kirsten January 6, 2010 at 3:01 pm

I do the same exact thing. I wouldn’t call it a problem though, I would say its “thrifty” lol. 😀

12 Aimee January 6, 2010 at 3:03 pm

You could crush the wheat thins up and use them as bread crumbs in a recipe. Even from may they should be fine for something like that.

I have a mega problem with free stuff as well! I always say that I’m just channeling my Jewish grandmother! 🙂

“They filled me up without bringing me down.” is that a song lyric or a riff on a song lyric? If not, it totally should be!

15 Erin January 6, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I had almost the same sandwich for lunch — so fresh and healthy. Makes me happy. 😀

16 Ali January 6, 2010 at 3:14 pm

My lunch was similar, just add turkey! I love free stuff too! Who doesn’t ?!

17 Morgan @ Life After Bagels January 6, 2010 at 3:44 pm

I have a bag of the grossest chip type thingys from my hotel room in Punta Cana last February . . . really why am I hanging on to them, I’m not going to eat them or anything!

Me too! I am such a pack rat!

19 jodie January 6, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I am so glad i am not the only one that does that with free stuff.

Which brand of tabouli do you buy?

20 Laura Georgina January 6, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Gorgeous lunch… I am a fellow free/cheap stuff hog. I keep the mints from restaurants for months and months, then find them disintegrating and being eaten by ants in my purses. It has to stop!

21 Heather (The Single Dish) January 6, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Good lunch. Who doesn’t love free food?! If I put food in the pantry at work it is gone in a flash, it is like no one has ever eaten before! 🙂

22 Matt January 6, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I usually steal the free snack too 😉

23 Whitney @ Lettuce Love January 6, 2010 at 4:56 pm

Such a good looking lunch — I love pita wraps 🙂

24 Elina January 6, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I do the same stuff! I think I have a mini pretzel pack from a flight way early in 2008. Maybe it’s time to retire it 😉
Lunch looks absolutely gorgeous! How is the lighting in your apartment? Is it the camera or the good lighting that makes the pictures so nice (aside from the clear deliciousness of the food 😆 )

Since you posted about the Taco Bell “drive thru diet,” *ahem, ridiculous*, I was wondering if you’d seen this:

26 foodfitnessandfreya January 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm

oohh what’s tabouli? I’ve never heard of that (I just had to scroll back up and check 3 times for the spelling lol :P)! That lunch does sound delicious though..I have pickles in my cupboard, but I’ve never had them before – I think you’ve just inspired me!! 🙂

27 jenngirl January 6, 2010 at 7:34 pm

I definitely have to ask myself: “do I really NEED this” when free stuff gets handed out. On the other hand, something like that 100 calorie pack is kind of a cool freebie, and you did use it! 🙂

28 Courtney January 6, 2010 at 7:44 pm

Hey, nothing wrong with free! :] Fresh strawberries sound so good!

29 Amanda @ Cakes and Ale January 6, 2010 at 8:04 pm

I’m all about the free stuff too! Although, I absolutely hate to waste food above anything else, so I really make sure I (or my husband!) consumes it all… that or I bring it in to work! My coworkers will eat just about anything…

30 Gracie January 6, 2010 at 8:52 pm

WHERE are you getting this delicious-looking fruit? The strawberries (and cantaloupe) up here this time of year are pretty yuck :/ I wonder if it has something to do with you being in beautiful, sunny Florida…!

31 Julie January 6, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Free stuff!? who could turn it down? Those strawberries look amazinggg

32 Kath January 6, 2010 at 9:57 pm

I have a MAJOR free food complex too. It’s the worst at buffets…

33 Christy January 6, 2010 at 10:40 pm

Free = awesome… especially since I’m a college student! 😛

34 Sarah (from See Sarah Eat) January 7, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I don’t mind free snacks but I do have a lot of crap hanging around my house. Especially tote bags, I mean good lord, how many do I need? Ha ha.
