Merry Grinchmas!

by Meghann on December 12, 2009

How do you follow up a holiday packed night of fun at Disney World?

Hop right next door and see what Universal has to offer!

IMG_1975.JPG

The holidays are my favorite time to head to the theme parks! Each theme park has its own special way of making it feel like Christmas. The Magic Kingdom has the Christmas Party, Epcot has the candle light procession, Hollywood Studios has the Osborne Family Lights, Universal has Grinchmas, etc. etc. etc.

And not only do i love how each park goes all out every year spreading the cheer of the season, I also enjoy the fact you can make it through the day at the park with out feeling like you are melting in the process. :) Love it!

Derek and I arrived at Citywalk right around lunch time and could hear Bubba Gump calling our names.

Bubba Gump has a special place in our hearts. After dating in college, losing touch after graduation and reconnecting at a FSU football game last fall (found here) Bubba Gump was where we had our first ‘date’ last January (found here) that renewed our relationship. There’s more to the story, but I will just leave it at that. ;)

Just as we did last January, Derek and I decided to split two dishes between the two of us.

We started with the Pear and Strawberry Salad with the dressing on the side.

IMG_1940.JPG

Then instead of ordering my usual Bucket of Trash – which is all fried – we decided to go a little ‘healthier’ and order the steamed version of the shellfish medeley.

IMG_1944.JPG IMG_1942.JPG

IMG_1945.JPG

Of course the fact that it was all covered in butter totally dismissed any claims that it was ‘healthier’ then the fired version. Oh well. Live and learn. :)

The discarded shells from my half.

IMG_1952.JPG

Some coleslaw.

IMG_1946.JPG

Instead of the rice that came with the meal, we asked for fries on the side.

IMG_1950.JPG

I had about 1/4 of the fries and Derek killed the basket. ;)

After lunch it was Grinchmas Time!

Islands of Adventure went all out decorating Seuss Landing in the Who-ville Christmas spirit.

I was really looking forward to the live musical version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

IMG_2057.JPG

Featuring Florida snow aka bubble foam. ;)

IMG_2049.JPG

Unfortunately after I switched lenses this weird line started appearing in all my photos.

IMG_2040.JPG

After a mini panic attack that included some compulsive cleaning and lens switching, I discovered a piece of hair that had somehow got stuck in the shutter. I was freaking out and missed half the show as I tried to correct the problem. Luckily once the hair was gone everything was back to normal. The was a close one!

IMG_2051.JPG

The best part of the day had to be meeting the green one in person after the show.

“He’s a mean one, Mr. Grinch”

We met my parents and sister right next door in Universal Studios to watch the Macy’s Holiday Parade.

IMG_2104.JPG

Parade food was a given. ;)

IMG_2095.JPG

Pretzel split 4 ways.

IMG_2099.JPG

IMG_2100.JPG

Popcorn

IMG_2107.JPG

I had 3 or 4 handfuls.

Parade time!

IMG_2161.JPG

IMG_2166.JPG

I hate to say it, but if I had to compare parades I would say Disney’s wins hands down. Sorry Universal! I just don’t think you can top holiday Disney characters. :)

When the parade came to an end we headed to the Elephant Bar for dinner.

I ordered the Tomato Basil Bisque.

IMG_2179.JPG

And split the Cobb Salad with my sister.

IMG_2190.JPG

This was actually my half portion already preportioned on my own plate. If you can’t tell from the picture, my half portion was huge! I could only eat half of my half. :)

We said our good byes and Derek and I headed back to my place.

As I’ve been typing I have been nibbling on a Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzel Cookie topped with some Egg Nog Ice Cream.

IMG_2193.JPG

Yum!

Tomorrow Derek and I are both competing in the Dash of the Elves. He will be running the 5k while I am completing the 10k. I really want to set a new 10k PR. This is a small, quiet race that should be a good time!

I’ll let you know how it goes!

Good Night!

Mickey's Verry Merry Christmas Party

by Meghann on December 12, 2009

Last night I got to experience one of my Christmas presents a little early – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

IMG_1692.JPG

It was an evening filled with bright lights, hot chocolate, sugar cookies, a big tree and of course all things Disney! I mean how can you go wrong with Disney at Christmas time? It was fabulous.

Before the Christmas festivities at Disney World started, I was busy spreading the Christmas spirit on my own side of town yesterday afternoon. After 3 hours of shopping my debit card literally felt a little lighter and I got about 1/2 of my Christmas shopping done.

IMG_1924.JPG

Yippee!! I still need a couple other big gifts, but I at least know now what I need to buy. I also purchased some baking supplies for some homemade gifts for various acquaintances.

While shopping I had a Trader Joe’s Crunchy Peanut Butter Granola Bar.

IMG_1663.JPG

Where Derek made it to Orlando we headed to Whole Foods for a quick and easy dinner that was on our way.

IMG_1690.JPG

I stocked up at the Hot Bar doing my typical ‘a little of this’ and ‘a little of that’ approach.

IMG_1688.JPG

I left a few bites behind. That may have been a first when it comes to Whole Foods hot bar for me. ;)

I was like a little kid when we made it to Magic Kingdom. Derek claimed he needed a leash for me because I kept stopping to take photos of everything. I was just so excited!

We arrived just as the parade was starting!!!

IMG_1764.JPG

My favorites were the Disney Princesses that came through. I grew up on all of them and still feel like I am in the presence of a celebrity with Snow White or Ariel. :)

The big finale – Santa Claus!

IMG_1821.JPG

To help everyone get in the Christmas spirit, there was plenty of Holiday Treat booths set up around the park.

IMG_1842.JPG

IMG_1841.JPG

IMG_1849.JPG

I had 1.5 cookies throughout the evening.

IMG_1850.JPG

And 1.5 cups of Hot Chocolate.

IMG_1851.JPG

We partied with Pluto while drinking out hot chocolate.

IMG_1854.JPG

IMG_1862.JPG

IMG_1864.JPG

I then made the BIG mistake of riding the tea cups after the second cup of hot chocolate.

IMG_1874.JPG

Not smart. Not smart at all.

IMG_1887.JPG

Let’s just say Derek had to stop spinning the tea cup because he got nervous when I kept putting my hand to my mouth on the ride. Unfortunately that sick feeling stayed throughout the night, but I made the best of it. :)

IMG_1903.JPG

I really wanted Derek to have a Santa’s hat all evening. Unfortunately we didn’t find them until the end. Oh well.

The night came a close with one final view of Cinderella’s Castle all lit up. Soo pretty!

IMG_1893.JPG

IMG_1891.JPG

At midnight the festivities ended and I became a pumpkin! I couldn’t make it home to my bed fast enough!

I had originally planned to run 15 miles this morning and slowly through out the evening that 15 kept going lower and lower until when my alarm when off this morning I decided on a nice 10. :)

I fueled up with a piece of toast slathered with almond butter, pear butter and raisins then headed out the door.

IMG_1907.JPG

The 10 miles weren’t pretty. I was tired and could not find my groove. I kept a 9:00 minute pace just so the run would be over faster and if I wasn’t training for a marathon I would have called it quits about 2 miles in. I was very thankful when the run was over. :)

I came home with an image of a veggie omlette on my mind.

IMG_1908.JPG

This was a 2 egg scrambler with onion, spinach, tomatoes, jalapenos, mushrooms, and swiss cheese.

IMG_1920.JPG

Just what I needed!! Soo good!

Enjoyed with a pear

IMG_1914.JPG

and a piece of pumpkin cornbread from the freezer.

IMG_1923.JPG

My tummy was still feeling off after my run, but the breakfast took care of it.

Now, Derek and I are off to enjoy more holiday cheer, but this time at Universal!

Have a great Saturday!!
