Baking Cookies

by Meghann on December 5, 2009

Tonight Caitlin and I had these great festive plans to watch It’s a Wonderful Life at the free outdoor theater. We were going to pack a picnic and sit under the stars. Unfortunately the torrential downpour and below average temps quickly destroyed those plans. Bummer. πŸ™

After much deliberation we decided to stay in and bake cookies instead!

The doggies played

While Caitlin and I got to work.

We stuck with the no-fail Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe.

Eggs

Flour

Brown Sugar

Molasses? (Ok this was really for the gingerbread cookies Caitlin was making, but I thought the photo was cool πŸ˜‰ )

Mix, Mix, Mix

We did make one slight change. Instead of chocolate chips we used these:

IMG_0812.JPG

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels! Can you believe these have been in my cabinet since August? I can’t believe I waited so long to try them!

IMG_0818.JPG

I crushed the pretzels so they would blend nicely with the rest of the cookie batter.

(Have I mentioned how much I hate how my hair sticks up in the back? I can’t wait for this ‘stacked’ look to grow out!)

Fresh out of the oven.

Earlier this afternoon I snacked on an Orange and Carrot that I dipped in Almond Butter.

IMG_0738.JPG

On my way to Caitlin’s I stopped at Infusion Tea and ordered a lunch combo to go.

IMG_0741.JPG

Vegan Tempeh Chili – perfect for this chilly weather!

IMG_0748.JPG

1/2 Concorde Sandwich with Hummus, Balsalmic Dressing and other veggies – Yum!

IMG_0744.JPG

Pumpkin Spice Tea

IMG_0739.JPG

This tea is AMAZING!! Next time I am going to order the tea leaves in bulk so I can take them home and brew at my leisure. πŸ™‚

I bet you can’t guess what I had for dessert? πŸ˜‰

IMG_0837.JPG

OMG!! Adding the pieces of the Chocolate Covered Pretzels was pure genius!! Nom Nom Nom I would have had more, but I had filled up on all the cookie dough I nibbled on. Oopss. πŸ˜‰

Tomorrow is my family’s annual Christmas Caravan (check out last year’s recap here). I am already preparing myself for a full day of good eats. Gotta love all those holiday favorites you only get once a year! πŸ˜‰

Good Night!

I actually saw the picture of your hair and before even reading the caption I thought, “That looks so cute! I wish my hair looked that good after a day at work!” lol So IMO, it looks cute, but I’m sure its annoying if that’s not how you want it to be!

Great idea with the pretzel cookies! I wish I could try them! I need to move south..

21 Jo Stockton December 5, 2009 at 10:46 am

It’s A Wonderful Life is such a great movie–maybe it’s best saved for a cold night inside. The cookies look delicious!

25 Mara @ What's For Dinner? December 5, 2009 at 11:50 am

Looks like a blast!! I had the “stacked” haircut and that flip thing drove me crazy… I lived in tiny ponytails as it grew out.

26 Jessie (Vegan-minded) December 5, 2009 at 11:51 am

I like your hair like that, I think it looks good on you. πŸ™‚ Those cookies sound so yummy!

27 Anna December 5, 2009 at 11:54 am

Looks like a fun night! Those chocolate pretzels would not have survived in my cabinets for that long πŸ™‚

28 caitsplate December 5, 2009 at 12:19 pm

That’s such a good idea! I have NO idea how you managed to hang onto those pretzels since August. There’s no way I would’ve made it!

And haha – I think your hair looks cute! But I know how frustrating it is when your hair is shorter than you like…I’m experiencing that right now!

And holy moly, I’m SO jealous of that tea!

Sorry you missed the movie – but your night looked pretty awesome anyway! πŸ˜€

29 Lindsay December 5, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Love the pigtails πŸ˜€ And I am totally with you on the “less bars, more real food” thing, aaaaand the messy apartment, ahhh haha bravo for posting pics!! I always notice that my cleanliness and organization go out the window as I get busier and do more social stuff, so I think it’s a good thing πŸ˜€ Have funnn tomorrow, I remember reading about it last year and drooooling…!!
