Party in the Office

by Meghann on December 2, 2009

Once a quarter my company comes together to acknowledge our accomplishments, review our goals, and look towards the future as a unit.

And after that 30 minute afternoon meeting – we party! ;)

I already told Christine she needs to step up the beet selection for our next meeting. ;)

Its really refreshing to spend a random afternoon once a quarter catching up with co-workers while enjoying a drink and various other treats.

I slowly sipped on a bit of Merlot while mingling.

(My boss really wanted to be in the background of this picture. He was uber impressed with my camera, in fact I had quite a few people quizzing me on my new Rebel and its functions)

A big part of the meeting after party is the celebration of birthdays for the quarter.

There was a white cake with chocolate icing and a carrot cake. Both from Publix and both looked delicious! I saved a piece of the carrot cake for dessert after dinner.

Instead of having a piece of cake right then and there, I opted for the yogurt and granola I had brought.

I love the way yogurt and granola photograph. So pretty!

Earlier in the afternoon Megan from Mezz Wins at Life tweeted me looking for a creative way to spice up a typical stir fry. I tweeted back that she should try a creative sauce. For instance right at that moment the idea for Cranberry Sauce Stir Fry popped in my head.

The idea stuck with me and when I was standing in front of the fridge wondering what to have for dinner I knew I had to give it a try myself.

I started with an assortment of beautiful, yummy veggies that were just so colorful in the pan.

Red Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Onion, Mushrooms, Snap Peas, & Carrot.

My Cranberry Stir Fry Sauce was a mix of Cranberry Sauce, Soy Sauce, Vinegar, and Red Pepper Flakes.

I topped it all off with sesame seeds and a few Kashi Crackers for crunch.

If I were to recreate this dish I would go a little lighter on the cranberry sauce and a little more heavy handed on the soy sauce. Besides that it worked pretty well.

As hard as I try to correct her, Maddie still believes the other seat at the table is hers.

For dessert I pulled out the slice of Carrot Cake I had snagged from the office party.

Publix makes pretty damn good carrot cake. ;)

Messy Update…

Thank you for all of your comments today regarding My Big Fat Mess. Each one made me smile. It was good to know there are others out there in the same boat as me.

I especially loved all the suggestions for a KERF make over. Kath is already checking flights! I’m crossing my fingers she can find a cheap flight for February!

I did get a start on my mess this evening. You should be happy to know I put all my clothes away and emptied the dish washer. Baby steps. Baby steps.

Don’t forget to keep the votes coming for the Sam-e Good Mood Gig!

My Big Fat Mess

by Meghann on December 2, 2009

I am typically a granola bar, mixed nuts, or dried fruit girl for my mid-morning snacks. However, this morning I decided to step out of my typical comfort zone and brought in my left over Sweet Potato Fries to snack on instead.

I borrowed a mystery bottle of ketchup from the fridge for dipping and enjoyed the savory snack. I really want to get in the habit of eat more real food for my snacks as opposed to the processed granola bars I am addicted to. One step at a time.

Lunch was a delicious mix of left overs.

Chickpea Casserole from Monday night.

Warm Red Cabbage salad from last night.

Nom Nom Nom.

My sweet tooth kicked in as soon as I finished my plate. I satisfied the craving with a piece of dark chocolate from my stash.

My Mess Revealed…

As I mentioned in my previous post, my apartment is a disaster and I hate to clean.

This is a problem I am trying really, really hard to overcome. The bottom line is I just don’t seem to care whether my apartment is clean or not. My goal is to start caring. It doesn’t help that I grew up with parents who have the same problem as I do and spoiled me with a weekly housekeeper who would clean up after my messes. I would kill for a weekly housekeeper right about now.

A few of you recommended posting photos of the disaster zone to encourage myself to clean and have a ‘finished’ product to share.

I have to warn you these photos are not pretty. If you are a neat freak and a big mess causes you to hyperventilate I would suggest skipping to this segment of my post. ;)

Exhibit A: The pile of clean laundry that needs to be put away. Also please note the disorganized desk in the background that has never actually been used as a desk since the day I moved in.

Exhibit B: The pile of cardboard boxes that has been piling up for a few months now and needs to be taken to the dumpster.

IMG_0466

Exhibit C: The pile of boxes filled with products that need to be reviewed on the end table next to my doorway.

IMG_0467

Exhibit D: My Kitchen and my counter littered with random items. Please note I have to place my running shoes up high otherwise Maddie will attempt to eat them.

IMG_0465

Exhibit E: My bathroom is the one place I HATE organizing. If I use my blow dryer and straightener everyday, then what is the point of putting them away? I also love the easy access of other hair supplies on the counter rather than in the cabinet.

Exhibit F: Last, but not least, my bedroom.

Hi Maddie!

So, there you have it. My big fat mess. Now that I have aired my dirty laundry, perhaps I will be more encouraged to actually do something about it!

Pear Butter

December 2, 2009

Is it really Wednesday already? Yippee! Wednesday runs are always fun because its my shortest run of the training week. This morning I knocked out 3 miles and 6×100 strides in less than 30 minutes then proceeded to spend 15 minutes working on my core and arms. I have had comments in the past asking more »
