Back in Tallahassee

by Meghann on November 21, 2009

No need to worry I made it safely to Tallahassee. 🙂

It’s been an evening full of yummy food, beer, wrist bands, and Tennessee Street. Yep! – feels like college again. 🙂

As much as I love sitting in Orlando’s rush hour traffic, I managed to avoid it this afternoon by skipping out of the office a tad on the early side. Take that bumper to bumper I4! I also managed to rework my route out of town so that I ‘just happened’ to drive by the Whole Foods on way to the turnpike. 😉

A fresh veggie juice has been on my mind lately and the Clearly Carrot I ordered hit the spot.

Yum!

Derek and I met each other in Ocala where I ditched my car and happily took my place in the passenger’s seat for the remaining 2+ hours of the trip. I also proceeded to download Pandora on Derek’s iPhone and serenaded him with showtunes and Disney songs.

Both of our stomachs were grumbling, but we wanted to hold off eating dinner until we hit Tallahassee. Thanks to my overflowing bag of snacks, we were able to temporarily ward off the hunger by splitting a Iced Gingerbread Clif Bar.

Love their seasonal flavors!

When we did finally make it to Tallahassee I had my heart set on my favorite build-your-own burger restaurant, Monk’s, for dinner, but alas the wait for a table was too long and eating outside in the cold simply wasn’t an option.

Instead we ventured to another local favorite of mine – Gordos -for a tasty cuban treat.

I discovered Gordos my freshmen year of college and it became a frequent hot spot of mine the years of school that followed. Gordos serves amazing cuban dishes that are full of lots of spice and flavor. My favorite – the Lechon Asado – is a house speciality. A plate full of cuban pork, black beans and rice, fried plantains, cuban bread – oh my!

This huge plate of food is a steal at $8.50! This meal is really enough for two and back in school I would always go home with tons of left overs to enjoy the next day.

I did my best, but just as in the olden days I could only eat half.

Derek helped finish the rest to ensure none of the good food went to waste. 🙂

After dinner Derek and I headed to a few college bars to catch up with some friends.

Beer selection was a bit limited and on the cheap side, but I managed to settle on a cup of the Bud Wheat I had been meaning to try anyways.

Verdict? Not something I would order again. It reminded me too much of regular bud or bud light. If I am going to enjoy a beer I would rather it be something that tasted great and not cheap.

Derek and I barely lasted until 11:30 before we decided to call it a night. It seems crowded bars aren’t as appealing as they used to be. The hotel bed, however, is very appealing at the moment. Better rest up before our run around campus in the morning!

Good Night!!
