If you are ever looking for a way to get rid of unwanted treats or baked goods, I’ve discovered an office setting is the best placed to do so.
In my office there are currently three strategically placed large bowls of rejected Halloween candy with signs welcoming passer byers to ‘help themselves.’
Passing the bowls each day has been somewhat of a challenge. I have been absentmindedly picking out my favorites and storing them at my desk for a ‘special occasion.’ My stash has been growing by the hour.
After a somewhat frustrating morning I decided today was one of those ‘special occasions’ when breaking into my stash was a necessity.
Mmm… Snickers!
The Snickers helped calm me down, but I was still feeling hungry. The Dried Mango and Pineapple I brought in cured that problem.
After my snacks I was on such a roll with work that for the second day in a row lunch wasn’t consumed until well after my typical lunch time. Who am I?
I went with simple and easy and reheated a leftover hamburger from Saturday night for lunch.
I topped the burger with Ketchup, Mustard, Mushrooms, and Spinach.
Have you ever seen Burger King serve anything that looked this tasty? I don’t think so! 😉
I really wanted fries with my burger, but had none prepared and didn’t want to waste time with an oven. I took a chance with the microwave and cut a ¼ of a butternut squash into fry shapes and nuked them on high for 3 minutes.
The results were excellent. Especially when dunked in a little ketchup. 😉
Nominations…
I discovered this morning Inner Workings of College Graduate has been nominated for two ‘Orbbies’ – an award presented by The Orlando Sentinel to Orlando’s best bloggers.
I’m not sure what the process for being nominated was, but I’m glad to be on the list and appreciate any votes you would like to swing my way. 😉
Click here to vote for Inner Workings of a College Graduate in both the Foodies and Personal categories. And while you’re at it, might as well throw in a vote for the Best Blog award. 😉
Just one More…
Oh so good to know about nuking butternut squash.. I’m always looking for a quickie way to cook squash. I love how you make “fries” out of everything- makes the meal more fun!

meghann — do you eat the skin on the butternut squash?
Yes I ate the skin. I was too lazy to peel it and honestly coudn’t even tell i had left it on 🙂
Hi Meghan, I was wondering if you could help with some questions about the Sam-e supplement. My doctor reccomended it to me recently to help manage fibromyalgia. Do you know if it’s safe to take for pain medication or is it just a mood supplement? Thanks!
I love making butternut squash fries but HATE peeling the thing! From your picture, it looks like you left the skin on – am I right on that? If so, does that mean the skin is edible? That would save me so much time!
I love snickers.. haven’t eaten one in years! 🙂
But that burger looks gooood eheh
I could go for a Snickers right about now.
That’s cool! Congrats on another award. I voted again 😀
I couldn’t have a candy stash in my drawer. It’s be empty by the end of the day. LOL
Snickers is my favorite candy 🙂
You haven’t had a tasty burger until you have had my bbq cheddar bison burgers!
Yayy! Congrats on the nom’s.
I have to admit to totally having a candy stash as well. A girls got to do what a girls go to do 🙂
Everyone in my office is bringing in candy too… ugg, that dish just stares at me every time I walk by!!!
i really wish I could find a way to get rid of halloween candy we have. we bought 2 bags not knowing if kids would come to our new apartment…and no one came!
sometimes I try to have a candy stash at work. but once I eat one piece, I think about the rest of it all day! I’m better off just bringing in one piece a day. if I want it I eat it, if not I save it for the next day.
Luuuckily candy doesn’t tempt me… Cupcakes though right now are my enemy. If I have stuff I will eat I can’t control myself. we have an overabundance of halloween candy too though, almost no trick or treaters!
lovely healthy lunch!
jenna
Lol. I’m such a hoarder, I’d probably fill up a drawer even though I don’t eat the stuff
Congrats on the orbie nomination, whatever the hell that means 🙂
Someone needs to make M&M mosaics!!!
Ah, yes. The candy drawer. No desk is complete without it, at least, not mine 😉
I will have to try the butternut fries – they look great!
Thats my technique with leftover sweets from Halloween! No matter how much chocolate is left out it seems to disappear in minutes at the office!
hi meghann — just wondering, when you made your pumpkin scones, how did you store them? i have mine in the oven and want them to be as fresh as possible tomorrow! thanks!
I can’t keep a stash like that. I would mindlessly go through it in a day!! Although the last night I worked I grabbed a stash from our communal bucket and was too busy to eat but one package of smarties!
I could never trust myself enough to have a candy drawer!
Congrats on being in the running for yet another award 🙂

We have an ENTIRE bowl full of candy left! It is sitting on top of our fridge, out of site… I have no idea what we are going to do with it!
