Tropical Fruit Tart Larabar Review

by Meghann on October 26, 2009

This past Saturday I was finally able to score a sample of the new Tropical Fruit Tart Larabar from the Larabar booth at VegFest.

IMG_4502

I have gone back and forth on purchasing my own Tropical Fruit Tart Larabar since they first started popping up on store shelves. In the end I came to the conclusion it wasn’t worth forking over $2 a bar to try something I was pretty sure I was not going to like. So far I have enjoyed every nut based Larabar I have sunk my teeth into, but none of the fruit ones have won me over.

Unfortunately the Tropical Fruit Tart flavor was not an exception.

.IMG_4505

I took one tiny bite and immediately discarded it. The flavors just did not work. I should have learned my lesson a while ago that the fruit based bars are not for me, but curiosity always gets the best of me. At least I always take the effort to try something new before immediately announcing my distaste for it. πŸ˜‰

Once the larabar was safely in the trash bin I turned to my emergency snack drawer for support.

A handful of almonds worked their magic and more then made up for the lackluster bar.

Lunch was straight from the freezer – simple and delish.

Yum!

I thought you guys would be happy to know I’m rocking the new red dress at work today. πŸ˜‰

Sporting a new outfit always brings a little cheer to my Monday. πŸ™‚

Vote, Vote, Vote

Are you annoyed of me yet begging you to vote? I hope not because we still have until Friday to make every vote count!

This morning I hit a milestone of 4000 votes! Lets see if we can make it 5000!

1 megzzwinsatlife October 26, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Lunch looks delish!!

You look dab in the dress girl!!

2 Juicy Jessy October 26, 2009 at 1:25 pm

I’m voting allright πŸ˜‰ and I’ve been sharing the link on facebook too, begging innocent Belgians that have never even heard of you to vote for you. Some of them have πŸ˜‰

3 Brie (The Fit Bride) October 26, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Love the dress. I wish it was warm enough here to wear stuff like that–I’m sitting in my office in my coat it’s so cold!

4 greensandjeans October 26, 2009 at 1:30 pm

I’ve been eyeing my sweater dresses since it’s FINALLY going to get down to the 60s and 70s here this week! Your dress just makes me want to bust them out sooner!

5 Jessica October 26, 2009 at 1:37 pm

You look fab in that dress!

6 ~Jessica~ October 26, 2009 at 1:41 pm

You look absolutely stunning πŸ™‚

Having read the ingredients, I’m not surprised that the Tropical Larabar didn’t have any flavour potential…although I do like the Key Lime Pie and Apple Pie flavours so I can’t be too much of a fruity-Larabar phobe.

Hope Monday isn’t dragging too badly!

7 stacey October 26, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Love the dress!

8 Whit October 26, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I am so happy you bought that dress. It is so gorgeous.

9 ari October 26, 2009 at 1:45 pm

really?! i lOVED the tropical fruit tart larabar! mm i thought it was like a coconut cream pie and key lime pie hybrid. haha oh well to each his own!

10 Mama Pea October 26, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Oh no, that’s my new favorite Larabar too! I’m so bummed you weren’t digging it. Of course, I don’t really like the PB&J ones, so maybe I’m the weird one.

11 Leah October 26, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Not annoying at all, I appreciate you pluggin’ the votes so I remember to do it everyday! πŸ˜€

12 Diana October 26, 2009 at 1:52 pm

14 Amber from Girl with the Red Hair October 26, 2009 at 1:59 pm

That red dress is SOOOO cute!!

I’m not a fan of the fruit-based larabars either!

15 allijag October 26, 2009 at 2:03 pm

HOT MAMA! I was shopping at H&M yesterday and saw that! Love it on you – you look like a supermodel! πŸ™‚

Can’t wait for San Fran – less than 2 weeks πŸ™‚

16 cookinfanatic October 26, 2009 at 2:10 pm

I got that dress in blue the other day, paired with a thick belt around the waist it is so cute! I wish I could wear dresses like that to work, but def not in our business casual rules here :/

17 suzanne October 26, 2009 at 2:20 pm

19 Jess October 26, 2009 at 2:25 pm

I loved all the fruit-based Larabars but I wasn’t a fan of the Tropical Fruit Tart. I think the pineapple flavor was a little off or something. Anyway, I will continue to vote for you! And loving the new dress!

20 rhodeygirltests October 26, 2009 at 2:31 pm

I just buy all the fruity ones and then pass them off to my husband. poor guy. i don’t like them either.

also, do you freeze in a plastic bag or right in their tupperware containers?

21 Meghann October 26, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I freeze in the tupperware. I always make a mess when I try to do it in bags and its cheaper to reuse tupperware then to keep throwing away bags πŸ™‚

22 runningaroundnormal October 26, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Ow Ow!! πŸ˜‰ Cute dress!

I loved that flavor Lara Bar! Sorry it dissapointed!

23 Lauren October 26, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Love the dress, you look great! Such a cute ensemble. I’m addicted to sweater dresses…I probably own about 8? haha. Living in New York gives me more than adequate excuse to wear them frequently.

24 Julie October 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm

You look great in that dress! I love the color πŸ™‚

25 Ali October 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm

That red dress looks fantastic on you!!!!!!

26 jennylikestorun October 26, 2009 at 2:55 pm

I love the dress! You look INCREDIBLE.

27 Kelly October 26, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Wow! You look fabulous in that dress!!! and, I don’t mind your asking for votes at all! If you didn’t remind me, I wouldn’t vote for you and that would be a shame because I think you would be good at this!

28 Ellen October 26, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Acorn squash chili…yummm! Much more exciting than my PB&J sandwich. And yes, the dress looks totally hot on you.

I’m always skeptical about any type of bar, even the “healthy” ones. They usually seem to have quite a bit of sugar in them. Can you tell me which ones are best health and taste-wise?

29 Jamie October 26, 2009 at 3:15 pm

THat dress looks awesome!!

30 Jamie October 26, 2009 at 3:16 pm

ANd I agree about the LaraBar- tropical fruit just isnt Larabars calling.

31 Evan Thomas October 26, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Thanks for the review. That’s one flavor I was already thinking I could pass on

32 Anne Marie@ New Weigh of Life October 26, 2009 at 3:25 pm

I love raw almonds. I think they are one of nature’s perfect snacks!

33 meyergirl October 26, 2009 at 3:39 pm

I think I’m having your lunch for dinner. Leftover chili and cornbread. πŸ™‚ P.S. I’m giving away a free breast cancer awareness Ipod Nano armband case on my blog: http://lovinlosing.com/

34 Las Vegas Weight Loss Challenge October 26, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Its always good to try new things, especially if they are healthy. Sometimes you won’t like it, but I give you credit for trying.
You look soo hot! in that dress.

35 Jenna October 26, 2009 at 4:30 pm

jenna

36 greenbean October 26, 2009 at 4:46 pm

i think that larabar is gross too!

37 VeggieGirl October 26, 2009 at 4:51 pm

CHIC DRESS!!!!!!!!

38 joelygolightly October 26, 2009 at 4:57 pm

I hate fake fruity things like that too! I love larabars, but ones like chocolate coconut and cherry pie… glad you confirmed what I was already thinking about that tropical flavor.

39 Emily October 26, 2009 at 5:44 pm

Actually I loved the tropical fruit flavor. My favorite though is key lime pie or the lemon. I guess I like the fruit ones best, but to each her own.
Congrats on all the votes. I voted again today!

40 Matt October 26, 2009 at 6:15 pm

I had chili last night!

41 Susan October 26, 2009 at 6:45 pm

I wish I had your self control. I drop two bucks on bars I only kinda-sorta like all the time!

42 Kelsey October 26, 2009 at 6:51 pm

thanks for the honest review of the larabar. and im with you, i dont really like the idea of wasting precious money on something that i might not enjoy.

44 ciely October 26, 2009 at 7:02 pm

You’re good with scarves!
I wish I was.
You’d be a great stylist .

45 Quinn October 26, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Probably my least favorite Larabar as well.

46 Brenna October 26, 2009 at 7:14 pm

I just tried the tropical Larabar this afternoon- definitely not a fan! How can the PB cookie flavor be so amazing and the tropical flavor be so nasty? I think Monday is the perfect time to wear a cute new red dress!

47 Leslie October 26, 2009 at 7:18 pm

You are totally rockin’ that dress. This is the first time I have posted. I have been blog following for a while and set up my own this past month. I can’t wait to be able to look as good as you do in a new read dress–maybe by Valentine’s Day. Fingers crossed.

48 carolinebee October 26, 2009 at 7:28 pm

ahhh u look so supa hot in the dress and scarf combo love it!!! I do not like most larabar flayvs either (especially the fruity ones!) I just bought the PBJ one and did not like it at all, I think the “cherry” jelly part is way too overpowering. I think ill stick to my mojo and zbar smores πŸ˜€

49 inmytummy October 26, 2009 at 7:29 pm

I hated the Tropical Larabar when I tried it. Bleh.

50 skinnyrunner October 26, 2009 at 7:37 pm

that dress looks so cute on you! super slimming.

51 runeatsleep October 26, 2009 at 7:42 pm

I can’t eat any fruit based bars either! Something about the after-taste is just weird….YUM to the acorn squash chili.

52 Kristen October 26, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Love the red dress. Hate the fruit Lara Bars. Happy to vote for you again today. πŸ™‚

53 Peanut Butter Bliss October 26, 2009 at 8:52 pm

SO glad you got the red dress πŸ™‚ you look so pretty in in – so slimming and flattering!

54 Fallon October 26, 2009 at 9:00 pm

I love the Tropical Fruit Tart from Lara! I’m not big on fruit type bars either but I think it was the coconut that won be over. Many people don’t care for coconut.

The dress looks really cute on you!

55 Tay October 26, 2009 at 10:51 pm

I’m not a fan of the fruit based ones either. Definitely spat out my one and only bite of the tropical lara! You look smokin’ in your dress! πŸ˜‰

56 Meg @ Be Fit Be Full October 27, 2009 at 10:35 am

You look absolutely amazing in that red dress!! I wish we had an H&M aroudn here… πŸ™

57 Kat October 27, 2009 at 5:14 pm

That dress is so cute- you look great!!

58 Katie October 27, 2009 at 6:41 pm

If only I had been there I would have gladly taken your larabar off your hands, love me some coconut!

59 Marianne November 3, 2009 at 3:55 pm

That’s too bad about the tropical larabar. But I agree, you have to try it before you can truly say you don’t like it. I just picked one up yesterday, since they finally made their way up north. I’m a big coconut fan, so I’m hoping it doesn’t disappoint πŸ™‚
