12 Miles with the Orlando Runner's Club

by Meghann on October 4, 2009

This morning my sister and I got up extra early to meet the Orlando Runner’s Club for a 12 miler before the sun rose.

To fuel for the run I had a Almond Butter, Dark Chocolate Chip and Raisin Pita.

I think this is my new favorite pre-run snack. The dark chocolate chips are a great sweet surprise. 🙂

Earlier this week Kelly and I were tossing around ideas of where to run today. Both of us are a little bored with our normal running spots and needed a change.

When I first moved to Orlando over a year ago I discovered the Orlando Runner’s Group and would run the occasional Sunday long run with them. Even though I have not ran with the group since last November, I am still on the e-mail chain. When I saw one pop up during the week I suggested we meet up with them.

As always the running group was filled with many friendly faces – probably a couple of dozen in total. There were people planning longer runs and shorter runs then our 12 miler and a wide range of pace levels.

At first Kelly and I stayed near the front with the 9:00 minute pacers, but quickly remembered we were planning 12 miles and dropped back to a slower pace after the first 4 miles.

It was a great run and a fun new route to mix up our routine. There were pre-planned water stops along the route where other runner had left gatorade and water for the group. I had a small cup of gatorade after 5 miles.

Kelly and I finished our 12 miles just under 2 hours. We were a hot, sweaty mess.

I was really craving a nice juicy apple on the last half of my run. On my way home I stopped and splurged on  a big juicy Honeycrisp Apple.

Heaven! Exactly what I wanted. 🙂

I also had a Cherry Scone I picked up yesterday at Tea Infuison.

And a Blueberry Oikos with Good Run Cashew Granola.

This breakfast was great, but sadly not very filling. There may be an early lunch in my future.

I have a few errands to run and plans with some high school friends for dinner.

I <3 Sundays!

Great job on your run.

Running clubs are a great way to meet new people. We have quite a few in Boston.

Nice work! That’s a great idea to find a running group to mix things up a bit. I know that I can get bored easily if I do the same thing over and over again, and even switching it up for a day or so will get me out of a funk and back into the swing of things.

You sisters are awesome!

And I hope honeycrisps! Always worth the splurge!

Juicy crisp fall apples are the best!! They always hit the spot.

Tart cherry scones are my favorite. Which lead me to discover dried tart cherries in general, which I now always have a bag of at my house!

Great blog, Meghann. Good to have you back in the Sunday running group. Been doing the Sunday run for about 222 years now and it has recently reacquired its former lustre. Come back soon!

Hi. I’m Jen. I know your sister Kelly. She used to live at my appartment complex. I met you too a long time ago. I was wondering where and what time this group meets because I am dying in this heat traing for my next marathan. I need a running partner.

Thanks so much…
Great Running..

Hi Jen – I remember you! The group meets every Sunday morning at 7:00am off of Park Ave in Winter Park.
