Addictions

by Meghann on September 2, 2009

I have many addictions in my life.

I’m addicted to

  • Running
  • Television
  • Traveling
  • Ice Cream
  • My Computer
  • and oh so many more things

Today’s spotlight addiction? Cereal!!

I missed my daily dose of cereal for breakfast this morning. Muesli is great, but as I was standing in front of the cupboard this morning the cereal shelf was staring me down. What am I thinking? – cereal isn’t just for breakfast.

It makes a great snack too! I had a serving of Kashi H2H around 3:30 and my cereal addiction was perfectly satisfied.

I have also realized I’m addicted to easy meals that can be served in bowls.

Meals in a bowl are the perfect solution to when you can’t decide what to eat. It’s simple. Can’t Decide? Just throw the contents of your fridge in a bowl, mix it up and you’ve got a meal. It’s easy to get a healthy mix of carbs, proteins and healthy fats without putting too much thought in it.

My bowl this evening contained

  • Jicama Rice
  • BBQ Tempeh
  • Yellow Tomato
  • Asparagus
  • Red Onion
  • Avocado
  • Drizzle of Mango Poppyseed Dressing

I ate the meal cold and it was delicious.

I had a severe case of onion breath after dinner. My solution? The other half of my dark chocolate bar from Monday night.

Better then gum as an onion breath killer if you ask me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now I need to pack and clean. Derek arrives tomorrow evening. Yay!!

haha love the list of addictions. Mine: group fitness classes, running, nut butter, cantaloupe, salsa…

I love random dinner bowls- I live on them!

Have fun with Derek!!

Oh and your mama and I share a birthday ๐Ÿ˜‰

great dinner idea!

3 Lauren September 2, 2009 at 8:42 pm

We share some of the same addictions in life. Some of my others would include, reading cookbooks, frozen fruit and cereal.

That’s so exciting that you are headed to the Keys. Hope you have a wonderful time!

I love that you’re addicted to running AND ice cream – talk about a perfect balance!

Have fun with Derek!

Cereal is amazing. A long time ago, people would put leftover popcorn in milk and eat it for breakfast. Nowadays, I’d much rather eat cereal while watching a movie than the other way around

o girl you and me alike, my addictions are identical! hahah love it! ๐Ÿ™‚

chocolate fixes everything right? MMMM MMMM good!

I think cereal is an awesome snack! My addictions: exercise, traveling, coffee, sushi, greek yogurt and more ๐Ÿ™‚

8 Valerie September 2, 2009 at 8:54 pm

I love making easy bowl meals too! In fact, that’s what I did for dinner tonight! That might be my addiction…

Chocolate is most definitely the best onion breath killer. Love it!

I love H2H as a snack . . . I have trouble stopping, though!

That dinner looks so tasty — I need to buy jicama!!

11 loveprevails September 2, 2009 at 9:06 pm

your bowl idea sounds good! I may have to try that when I have a bunch of random left overs and dont know what to do with them!
BTW, cereal is def an any time of day snack, especially at night before bed!!

12 Pam September 2, 2009 at 9:13 pm

I have to agree that chocolate is much better than gum to kill bad breathe! (or for any other reason!)

13 Matt September 2, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Cereal = crack ๐Ÿ™‚

14 Marissa September 2, 2009 at 9:15 pm

I love putting things in bowls too. My husband actually asked me if I knew what plates were, ha ha ๐Ÿ™‚ I love cereal as a snack too. I think PB Puffins are my favorite!

15 Kat September 2, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I love throwing a bunch of different flavors together. I made a very “everything but the kitchen sink” salad for dinner tonight- and it was great!
There is something really satisfying about eating out of bowls…. I much prefer it!

I love avocado. I used to be so turned off by it, but now I can’t get enough! I now try to incorporate it into everything! ๐Ÿ™‚

Funny about the chocolate curing the onion breath. I always reach for something sweet if I have an odd taste in my mouth from something I have eaten too. I totally justify it by saying that my breathe will smell like chocolate, caramel, Starburst, etc. Whatever the random candy I have it.

That totally counts as justification.. right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m addicted to the same things you are! Plus my iPhone. And many others.

Have a great weekend ๐Ÿ˜€

I love the addiction post! I am the same way – addicted to many things! Cereal is totally on my list!

19 Nicci@NiftyEats September 2, 2009 at 9:38 pm

Great idea for a quick dinner. I find myself staring into the frig sometimes dumb founded at what to cook!

20 Brandi September 2, 2009 at 9:38 pm

i love meals in bowls, too! So much more fun to eat when everything is layered ๐Ÿ™‚

21 jenngirl September 2, 2009 at 9:47 pm

I love your meal in a bowl theory! So true, and I usually end up mixing everything on my plate together by the end anyways ๐Ÿ˜‰

22 traveleatlove September 2, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Bad tv is a big addiction of mine, but I figure I work hard enough, I deserve the rest! ๐Ÿ™‚
Your avocado looks sooooooo good!

23 Jenny September 2, 2009 at 9:57 pm

cold cereal – so simple, yet so delicious.

my addiction = peanut butter.. surprised?

24 Britt September 2, 2009 at 10:03 pm

27 Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now September 2, 2009 at 10:25 pm

I love meals in bowls, too.

28 busylittlelexi September 2, 2009 at 10:27 pm

I recently found your blog & I am in love ๐Ÿ™‚
I love your story.
I can’t tempeh anywhere around here…lame MS grocery stores. Do you buy it flavored or cook it yourself?

29 biz319 September 2, 2009 at 11:29 pm

I just had banana nut cheerios after not having cereal forever! Loved it!

Hooray for Derek coming back!

30 Katerina September 3, 2009 at 1:16 am

There is also something inherently comforting about meals in bowls.

31 Nicole September 3, 2009 at 2:15 am

I have an addiction to running and the computer too! My husband felt a little neglected last night, and remind me of that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

32 bloobly September 3, 2009 at 3:40 am

ummm…muesli IS cereal…like one of the first cereals ever “invented” or whatever. just thought i’d clear that up

33 Sammie September 3, 2009 at 9:05 am

I think you have a great list of addictions. I too am addicted to running. I am also addicted to TEA!!! I can’t get enough of it, especially when I am chilly.

34 lowandbhold September 3, 2009 at 10:58 am

I’m an addict to many things also! I love the sound of your dinner, but I’ve been too scared as of yet to try tempeh.

Have fun with Derek!!

35 foodcents September 3, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Love those meals that come together, in hopes of cleaning out leftovers. When they end up being healthy and tasty, well that realy can not be beat.

36 Katy September 3, 2009 at 3:49 pm

I love cereal too, but it’s a trigger food for me — if it’s sitting unopened in the pantry, I’m fine, but once it’s open LOOK OUT!

37 Jess September 8, 2009 at 7:22 pm

I love bowl meals too! Especially if you top ’em with an avocado like yours, yum!

PS. I totally agree with the onion/chocolate thing.
