Who Needs [Insert you favorite buritto place here]?

by Meghann on August 31, 2009

Moes? Qdoba? Chipolte? Tijuana Flatts?

None of these famous burrito chains have anything on me. 😉

I love a massive over stuffed burrito from my favorite burrito chain as much as the next girl, but when you’re on a budget and watching your waistline building something as equally yummy is a great alternative.

I filled my wrap with some of my favorite burrito fixins and random refrigerator finds.

IMG_1012

  • Left over Rice & Beans from Friday Night
  • Spinach
  • Tomato
  • Jalapenos
  • Red Onions
  • Salsa
  • Cilantro
  • Sprouts
  • Feta
  • Plain Oikos yogurt aka ‘sour cream’
  • Avocado

I envisioned in my head a grilled burrito and need less to say my stuffed masterpiece was a bit of a challenge to control in the George Foreman.

A couple strategically placed toothpicks saved the day.

IMG_1017

This huge burrito was certainly a meal in it self.

IMG_1018IMG_1023

Just as I usually do at any fast food burrito joint – a knife and fork were needed.

 IMG_1027

To wash down the messy, spicy burrito I had a sweet Pluot.

IMG_1025

Before my burrito escapades I tried the Cranberry Heart Thrive Cookie.

IMG_1008

Me liked.

Lemon Poppyseed is still my favorite, but I enjoyed how the cranberry had the same rich heartiness to the cookie that gave it great filling power.

Free Kashi Cereal!!!

Yet again Kashi is showing by awesome they are by promoting another of their stellar marketing campaigns to send the nation a sample of their delish products. This time it’s cereal! You know how I love my Kashi cereal!

Head over to Kashi’s website now to sign up for your free sample of either their Honey Sunshine, Go Lean Crunch, or Blueberry Oat Clusters. There is also the ‘surprise’ option for those of us who can’t decide!

Which one did you pick? Or do you want to be surprised?

1 rhodeygirltests August 31, 2009 at 1:34 pm

I picked the GoLean Crunch, seems like the perfect one to use as a yogurt topping, and the sunshine seems too similar to puffins in texture (I have a box right now). I signed up for my sample first thing this morning!

2 Ada August 31, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Yum, that burrito looks delish! I chose the “surprise” option, I’m too indecisive haha.

3 MelissaNibbles August 31, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Kashi GoLean is heaven in Greek yogurt.

Your burrito is…what do the kids say? the shiz?

4 Jenny August 31, 2009 at 1:44 pm

5 Emily August 31, 2009 at 1:46 pm

I’ve tried the other two, so I picked the blueberry oat clusters. Thanks for letting us know about this great offer.

P.S. Your burrito looks amazing!! Perhaps a burrito shop is in your future?? 🙂

6 Evan Thomas August 31, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Ahh toothpicks must be the trick! That did not work for me with a tomato panini last week.
I chose the blueberry clusters because that’s the one I’ve never tried and I figured this was a no pressure opportunity to give it a taste

7 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) August 31, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I love making a new dish with leftover ingredients! Thanks for the Free Kashi link! I chose Crunch!

16 Gloria August 31, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Thanks for posting this! My Kashi loving girlfriends were super excited when I forwarded this onto them. I chose the blueberry because I love the Nature’s Path Blueberry Optimum cereal and wanted to give this one a try too.

17 Leianna August 31, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Honey sunshine looks the best to me! That wrap does look better than Chipolte’s, probably less calories as well!

18 Erica August 31, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Nice work on the awesome burrito. After seeing that I am embarrassed to even admit that I like my frozen trader joe’s veggie burrito that I had for lunch today.

29 Christy August 31, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Hi! I picked the Crunch. Then…I got caught up in playing the game on the website where you have to try to throw food in this person’s mouth! Hahahahaha!

30 Emily August 31, 2009 at 3:15 pm

I choose to be surprised! Great work on that burrito, there is no way I could get one that neat 🙂

I love those heart thrive muffins. Though, I’ve only had the lemon poppy seed, it was to die for!

36 ksgoodeats August 31, 2009 at 5:25 pm

What a great burrito! I love how flat out wraps get so crispy – yum 🙂

37 Angharad August 31, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Homemade burritos are the way forward! No doubt about it!

38 Matt August 31, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Chipotle = love.

39 Tay August 31, 2009 at 6:41 pm

Oh great idea with the toothpicks! My wraps always fall apart on the foreman. I chose the blueberry clusters b/c I have the crunch already (and not a huge fan), and I just received a sample of honey sunshine.

40 Life of Alli August 31, 2009 at 7:15 pm

I haven’t tried the Honey Sunshine, so that was my pick. That burrito looks oh so yummy!

41 Liz August 31, 2009 at 7:56 pm

That is a gooood lookin burrito. I bet it’s way healthier than what you get at the burrito joints too. However, a good burrito joint is an indulgence I will never give up. I havn’t signed up for the free sample yet, but I just bought some Kashi Autumn Wheat cereal. I never had it before, and I like it alot. Just a hint of sweetness, which is perfect.

42 Valerie August 31, 2009 at 8:02 pm

I was intrigued by the Blueberry Oat Clusters! Can’t wait for my free sample, thanks for linking to this. Also, I can totally relate to your burrito/George Foreman woes! Yours looks great though!

43 Amanda August 31, 2009 at 8:17 pm

I picked the Honey Sunshine and have gotten TWO sample boxes… I only signed up once! Not sure why I was sent two, but I’m okay with that. haha

44 Errign August 31, 2009 at 8:21 pm

I went for the surprise!

Your burrito looks delicious.

45 emielli September 1, 2009 at 11:43 am

That’s for the link for the Kashi cereal! I went with the option with the blueberry clusters. I`ve always wanted to try the Special K with blueberry and the Kashi looks 100x better!

I also ordered a sample for my mom, she doesn’t get a lot of mail nowdays that isn’t bills, so she`ll love getting a sample. I couldn’t decide for her, so I just decided to let it be a surprise~

46 Anne Marie@ Her New Weigh September 1, 2009 at 11:48 am

It was GoLean Crunch for me. Thank you for the link!
