A Buggy Morning

by Meghann on July 22, 2009

On my 4 mile run this morning I counted 3 bugs that found their way in my mouth and 1 that tried to fight its way in my eye. Twas a very buggy morning in Central Florida. Yuck!

I discover that I swallow more bugs on runs when I try to give the run some extra effort and forget to concentrate on keeping my mouth shut. Anyone else have this problem?

Good news is the extra effort paid off I was able to obtain negative splits and finished 4 miles in 36:15. I sprinted the end. It felt great. 🙂

After my run and shower I enjoyed a nice refreshing bowl of cereal.

I love kiwis in my cereal in the morning. 🙂

Even thought I have stated it before and I know people will ask again. For thsoe curious newbies. Yes, you can eat the skins on the kiwi & No, it doesn’t taste funny. It does make eating a kiwi 100 times easier.

Your run this morning sounds like mine last night. I had a bug fly into my eye too. It was driving me crazy! I had to stop and use a car’s side view mirror to dig it out. For some reason, there were more bugs out last night than usual. Dam bugs!!!

That breakfast looks so refreshing and delicious! At least the bugs you swallow during your run provide extra protein:)

That breakfast looks absolutely delicious! I always eat kiwis with the skin too, it’s just easier and quicker that way!

Bugs are the worst! Way to chase them down! haha

Yeah…. that’s one of the many reasons I don’t like running. I want to. I really do. I just don’t… le sigh…

6 prettyladycmu July 22, 2009 at 9:32 am

Agh, I hate eating bugs on a run!!

7 nutritionbyeve July 22, 2009 at 9:35 am

I haven’t had kiwis in a while, you may have convinced me to pick some up at the store today.

8 Danielle C. July 22, 2009 at 10:01 am

Yup, I’ve definitely swallowed a few bugs. 🙁

Your breakfasts always look so refreshing! I find it hard to find a breakfast other than oatmeal that holds me over as well. So even though its like 80 degrees here, I’m still drinking coffee and eating oatmeal!

Yuck for bugs!! I hate when that happens. I usually end up with a few in (or trying to get in) my eye.

You just inspired me to have cereal this morning for breakfast. I wasn’t sure what to have! I hate bugs!

I think you have officially transitioned to plain yogurt, good job girl!!! And nice run, loveeee negative splits!

15 Sara July 22, 2009 at 10:45 am

Your cereal looks so good! I love cereal and yogurt, but I’m currently out of yogurt. Bugs are just extra protein, right? 🙂

16 Shannon (The Daily Balance) July 22, 2009 at 10:46 am

YUCK! I don’t know what’s worse bugs in the mouth or bugs in the EYES – yuckyuckyuck!

17 Kathryn July 22, 2009 at 11:12 am

What do you mean by splits? Also have you heard of shakeology , I just heard of it and I wanted to get the blog worlds opinoin on it. It seems like amazing grass but different ingredients and its cheaper.

18 ksgoodeats July 22, 2009 at 11:27 am

Eww to the bugs – extra protein!? 😉 Way to go with the negative splits though!!

19 Deva July 22, 2009 at 11:45 am

Your breakfast looks divine!!

20 Jen July 22, 2009 at 11:50 am

buggies do that to me too. I have no cure! ekk!!!

Yummy bowl this morning, I eat the kiwi skin too 🙂

21 blythe July 22, 2009 at 12:10 pm

Bugs in the mouth on a good run = extra protein in your diet 🙂 haha!

As for your eyes, the only real solution to this problem would be sunglasses….but unless someone comes up with a breathable mouth guard device……..OPEN WIDE!!

22 allie July 22, 2009 at 12:18 pm

great run!! i don’t want to know how many bugs i have eaten so far. i try not to think about it (ever get a bug in your chewing gum. seriously. gross.

yummy breakfast- gotta get some kiwis!!

23 Rose July 22, 2009 at 12:26 pm

I’m a bug swallower from way back.

🙂

24 Traci July 22, 2009 at 1:23 pm

So funny. No bugs in my mouth during my run but a bug decided it would be fun to fly into my eye and attach itself to my contact. Yuk!

25 Melissa S. July 22, 2009 at 2:43 pm

i eat bugs everyday, and get them in my eyes…i think it’s part of being a runner. 🙂

and i think i’ve eaten way too many over the years…i’ve never been able to run w/ my mouth closed.

26 Beth @ CrossBorderCravings July 22, 2009 at 4:53 pm

ewww, you know what’s the worst!? when you’re running and you hit one of those bug clouds with all the tiny bugs swarming around (usually near trees). then you REALLY have to keep your mouth shut!

27 healthy ashley July 22, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Meghann, reading about your awesome runs almost every day totally encourages me. Today I really don’t feel like working out (for no reason at all) but instead I am going to RUN!
