Watermelon in the Kitchen

by Meghann on July 14, 2009

I love the rare occasions when I get an office wide e-mail boasting fresh, healthy fruit free for all in the community kitchen rather then the standard offering of donuts, cookies and cakes.

Good morning everyone,

I brought watermelon in today. It’s in the main kitchen in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf in Publix bag. Please help you self to as much as you like.

Thank you

Jackpot! I love me some fresh watermelon!

I decided to take my lovely co-worker up on her offer and had an extra large slice of fresh Watermelon along side my planned snack of a hard boiled egg today.

(Yes, I know I my egg is over done, but I like them that way!)

There is something about watermelon that is just so fresh and juicy that the whole outlook of your day gets a whole lot better by simply eating it.

For lunch I went with trusty left overs from the night before.

I love left over Meatloaf Sammies!

I preferred to serve mine open face with some Spinach and TJ’s Tomato Chutney atop a piece of Publix Bakery Multigrain Bread.

On the side I also had left over Mashed Rutabaga.

And the last of my bag of Cherries I had purchased the other weekend.

My lunch hit the spot. :)

I don’t think we’ve ever had anything that healthy at work! The worst is once a week when we get an announcement over the intercom: “Bagels and pastries available for the staff in the conference”… ugh, so hard to avoid.

yum! isn’t leftover meatloaf the best? I love being able to have meatloaf sandwiches :)

i wish we had more fruit in the office. we usually have donuts on Friday and that’s about it for office treats, thank goodness.

I love fresh watermelon. Yum! I like my eggs overdone too. In fact, I usually just throw out the cooked yolk and eat the whites.

Who has coworkers that bring in fruit and veggies? Not mine. IF anyone brings anything it is usually donuts or the like.

I like my eggs that way too! The yolks are creamier when they’re cooked well :-)

Uh oh – you reminded me that I bought a watermelon a week ago at Costco and I keep forgetting to cut it open! Hopefully it’s still ok….

You should totally bring in fresh fruit and veggies into your office and send out an email. Then let us know how many takers you get. :) That would be fun.

I do love watermelon!! It’s great to see someone brought a refreshing fruit rather than cookies or cake for a nice change!

Hooray for watermelon! It’s rarely a healthy snack being offered up where I work either. Sometimes I’m guilty of bringing in my “bad” stuff to get rid of too ;-)

I’ve never had a rutabaga but if I see one I’ll have to grab some, I like all things mashed- taters, SPs, parsnips, etc.

That’s so nice that it’s a nice piece of fruit instead of the usual donuts and cookies. I wish our office was like that, maybe I’ll start the trend!

I love watermelon juice, blend chunks of watermelon with a touch of OJ and lime, super refreshing and cool. Thanks for the meatloaf recipe, looks delicious!

Aww man I’m so jealous! I LOVE watermelon, and i finally bought myself a small quarter piece this weekend, but because I don’t really have a big enough knife to cut it this summer (plus it’s so messy after you cut it up and have the skin left) , I haven’t been able to buy myself an entire watermelon. Nothing beats ice cold watermelon though! Yum!
