I have been aching to swim some laps for a couple of weeks now. I am determined to eventually run a triathalon again and to do so I really need to work on the swimming element. The only problem is I can not seem to motivate myself to jump into a pool so early in the morning.
Last night I set my swim suit, cap and goggles all nicely on my dresser, telling myself that this morning would be the morning I take the plunge. If only it were that simple.
Once I woke up I suddenly had no desire to swim anymore and instead talking myself into Jillian Micheals No More Trouble Zones DVD. Still a great work out, but not the swim I was counting on last night.
I am hoping if I blog about my desire to swim in the morning, I will be more encouraged to actually do so. At least I’m crossing my fingers for it.
Breakfast this morning was presented in a beautiful new bowl.
Target has a lot of cute summer dining ware out right now for pretty cheap. I went a little crazy yesterday and bought 3 or four new bowls and plates. They were all cute and under $2.00 a piece. I couldn’t help myself!
In the mix:
- 1/2 cup Quaker Oatmeal Squares
- 1/2 cup Kashi Strawberry Fields
- 1/3 cup Chocolate is for Lovers Granola
- Stonyfield Plain Non-Fat Yogurt
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Blackberries
I LOVE blackberries but does any one else get slightly annoyed that they stain your nails purple for the rest of the day. My right hand looks like I was playing in dirt this morning. lol
On the way into work this morning I had to stop and pick up a paper.
I felt like a little school girl when I turned to the front page of the local section to see one of my favorite people staring back up at me.
CONGRATS to Caitlin and her feature on Operation Beautiful!

I’ve been aching to swim lately too but my pool is in the process of being opened right now. You just have to go for it! Getting in is always the hardest part.
I am not a strong swimmer AT ALL, so I know the feeling.
Love your blog!! I know what u mean about swimming!! Such a good work out, but I dread it… Probably because I swim lke a rock!! Your breakfast looks delish!!
I swim EVERY single morning and absolutely love it. It can be hard to motivate yourself to jump into a cold pool in the morning, but after you’re done you feel so great! It also helps if you plan a workout in advance. Swimmingworld.com has great workouts that will help motivate you.
I’m training for my first triathlon at the end of the summer. For me, swimming is the easy part! Running is new to me and I’m struggling a bit, but starting to get more into it. I ran my first 5K about a month ago and I’m thinking about signing up for a 10K soon. I’d like to feel comfortable with a 10K because then I could do an olympic distance tri. I agree with the earlier poster that it is hard to jump in but after the first two laps I love it.
I wanted to ask about your garmin watch. The 305 is on a big sale right now and I’m really tempted, but I feel like it’s still a splurge considering how new of a runner I am. It seems to get better reviews than the 405 (even though that one is much smaller and looks more like a regular watch.) Any thoughts before I take the plunge?
Wasn’t the article great?!
I think the BF is getting me new dishes for my birthday next week….stoked!
I love the new bowl!!!
I used to be a hard-core swimmer when I was a kid and during high school (like, sometimes swimming four or five hours a day). Now, I’m so sick of it that I can’t really do it anymore! Getting in a cold pool in the morning can be awful. Since it’s summer, you might have more luck in the afternoon, when you are probably already hot, and want to cool off anyway…
Hope you get your swim in!!
yayyy how exciting
I read the article!
why don’t you go swimming after work?
You can have a morning workout and an after work workout…orrrr not so much? lol I wouldn’t wanna swim in the morning when I first get up either..
That is so awesome! Go Caitlin!
Yummy breakfast!
Yeah for Caitlin!
how exciting for caitlin, i can’t believe how much this thing has taken off!
How do you like the no more trouble zones dvd? I have her shred dvd, but haven’t seen that one!
Ok, so this is going to sound totally random… BUT … on June 25, when you took the pic of your hair “au natural” lol , is that just your hair? Nothing in it? I love, love it and just recently cut my hair as well, so i am looking for new options! I didnt know if you threw some type of hair product in it =) I know, SUPER RANDOM haha!
i love all the cute bowls that are out, but I have no place to put them! I need a bigger kitchen so I can start buying some
Yay for Caitlin!
Go Caitlin! It’s really exciting that it’s spreading so quickly!
I feel the same way about swimming as you do — my cap and googles are always in my gym bag, but I just never get inspired when I get to the gym to actually put them on and go for it!
Is the swimming portion of the triathlon the one that you feel you have to train for the most? I’m always curious, as I’ve been considering doing triathlons myself.
oh i love cereal and i have that fun bowl too!!
i saw her article and just think that is so wonderful!
Funny, because I love swimming the most first thing in the morning! It’s a lot more refreshing and energizing than any other morning workout I’ve tried! I can understand how hard it is to put on a bathing suit and jump in the water straight from your comfy bed though. But you defintely won’t regret it once you do
dude…i totally want that granola!!!!!!!!!! i remember those pb chocolate pretzel balls…DROOL!
Hmm, maybe you should sleep in your bathing suit so when you wake up in the morning you have no other option! Haha, it might work!
That breakfast looks insanely delicious. And I’m so happy for Caitlin, too! That woman is unstoppable. No wonder you two make such lovely friends!
As you eat mostly veg, I thought I’d let you know I’m having a little Blogiversary Giveaway. In addition to a killer gift bag (tote, tee, jumbo vegan cookies), you can win a free 1-year subscription to VegNews magazine! I think you’d love it! Check it out: http://snackface.wordpress.com/2009/07/01/vegnews-celebration-giveaway/
Have a lovely humpday!
I think I would swim more if the water wasn’t so cold. The first five minutes of swimming is what keeps me on dry land!
I’ve never been much of a swimmer, but would like to start. It’s just that pesky motivation thing! The water is just so darn cold to start….
swimming in the morning is awesome!!! hubby and I have been doing it on tuesday mornings!!! Ok girl you so need to go and get Jillians “making the cut” book you would love the circiut training in there
SHE IS KILLING ME!
I always have to force myself to swim because it is just not my favorite activity but it is required if I want to keep doing triathlons. I started running an easy mile or two before I swim and that way I was nice and warm and anxious to get in the pool and cool off. Try it and see if it works for you because it is a great way to start the day! Good luck! : )
Ah, I’ve been dying to swim lately too! It’s suuuch a good work-out. It is always annoying to have to deal with the bathing suit/wet hair factor but feels amazing once you jump in!
I hit up Target yesterday, too, and got 4 bowls and 4 plates for $4 !
If you can get yourself in the pool, you may very well find it has incredible benefits, beyond just the cardio aspect. It is so great for strengthening the lungs, stretching, core work and, etc….
It is my favorite form of exercise and leaves me alot more peaceful than any other exercise I do. I think alot of that has to do with the large emphasis on breathing.
That’s a really good idea for the lox and capers–definitely going to have to try that! Bagels, cream cheese and lox used to be an obsession for me and have been avoiding them, this would be a nice treat!
YAY Caitlin, that’s awesome for her!! Swimming is definitely something you’re either in the mood for – or not. And if you’re not, it’s so easy to just stop! Save it for a day when you REALLY want to swim!
And I’ll hit up Tarjay soon – I want some cute new dishware!!
