A Belated Review

by Meghann on June 30, 2009

I have been slacking on my product reviews lately! At one point I was being sent way too many products at once and I decided to take a break from all the reviews. However, this morning I was digging in my cabinet for some snacks and found s few forgotten gifts. After my sweet tooth gave me the nudge I grabbed a bag and headed out the door.

DSCN1785

This bag of Sensible Portions Apple Cinnamon Whole Grain Crisps is part of a vast sampling of Sensible Portions products I received a couple of months ago.

I have to be honest when I say I shied away from sampling any of them due to the erie resemblance to the Quaker Rice Snacks. In my head I just kept thinking they were another processed diet snack that would leave me feeling empty.

Upon closer examination I was pleasantly surprised by the relatively simple ingredient list to the crisps.

DSCN1786

No funny names and the whole bag only had 3 grams of sugar. Not too shabby.

As I predicted they would the crisps were very cinnamony and very good. They reminded me of my believed Cinnamon Twists from Taco Bell that I used to order when I was little. They would make a great dessert, but as a snack it was not very substantial. They were light like air and not very filling. At least they tasted good. :)

Lunch made up for how unfilling my snack was. ;)

I have been dreaming about this Buffalo Tempeh Burger all week!

DSCN1791

I simply broiled a piece of tempeh until it was crispy, doused it in buffalo sauce then topped with a slice of Swiss Cheese and Spinach. All of which I sandwiched between a Homemade Multi-Grain English Muffin.

DSCN1792

Wow! This was just what I was hoping it would be! The buffalo sauce added an extra spicy kick to the ‘burger’ and the coolness of the cheese was able to keep my mouth cool at the same time. Yum, Yum, Yum!

On the side I had a small Pickle

DSCN1795

And a serving of left over Jicama Rice Salad.

DSCN1794

The salad had all night to soak up the yogurt dressing so it was extra delicious at lunch. :)

The Dark Chocolate Edamame had been staring me down while I was putting things away in the fridge after lunch.

I love these little suckers!

Cruise Ramblings…

I admit it I have been on ALOT of cruises. The one this weekend will actually be my 6th! With so many ports within driving distance, cruises were always just an easy vacation for my family that kept everyone happy the whole week.

I was a little bored this morning and decided to take some time to review the pictures from the most recent cruise I went on in the summer of 2007. My family and some family friends set sail out of Miami for a 7 Night adventure to celebrate mine, my twin bro’s and our good friend April’s graduations from college the month before.

This just happened to be the same time when my weight was at its highest. And though I had a blast on the cruise, looking back at the old pictures reminds me how far I have truly come in the last two years.

As you can tell there was a lot of Drinking/ Eating/ Partying etc. done on this cruise. Believe me I plan to still do those things on the cruise coming up, but I also plan to do it all in moderation. I just have to remind myself that I don’t need a soft serve ice cream before and after every meal or that midnight & 2:00am pizza probably will not agree with me later.

I also can not wait to run on the sea or take advantage of a fully gym I do not have the luxury of at home.

I fully intent to embrace this cruise with the same healthy living attitude I have developed in the last year and a half. It’s still going to rock and I still plan to have my pants fit at the end.

I just can’t wait!

ooh, i used to love Taco Bell’s cinnamon twists!

I think your attitude is the best one to have on a cruise. I’ve been on one and there really IS FOOD EVERYWHERE! The good thing is that it’s easy to walk A LOT, and I just tried to have things I couldn’t get home and leave the rest unless I really wanted it.

The cruise sounds like so much fun! Kath went on a cruise a few months ago and I really enjoyed reading about it on her blog. Running on the deck of the ship with the sea breeze and the sunshine sounds like perfect exercise :-)

I have actually lost about 10 lbs since that cruise. Ever since Meghann changed her lifestyle I’ve changed mine too. I eat a lot more clean whole foods now and feel so much healthier. :)

I just wanted to say hi! I am a new reader and can completely relate to trying to balance a post-graduation job (ick to real life), healthy eating, working out etc. I also live in Orlando :)

Congrats on your transformation. You seriously look like a whole different person!!

YOU’RE GOING TO BE THE HOTTEST GAL ON THE CRUISE SHIP!

You’re going to have SO much fun, while kickin’ it healthy style :D I am jealous, I’ve never cruised. I live in Oregon. Alaska doesn’t seem like the sweetest destination for a cruise at this time in my life. Maybe when I’m 60.

And I read HOMEMADE english muff? Really? Recipe?

I can totally relate to this post!! I used to think vacation was a time to splurge all over the place but now I know I enjoy myself so much more when I take care of myself and enjoy in moderation. Have an awesome time on the cruise and congrats on your success since the last!!

I used to love those Taco Bell cinnamon twists too. They were the only thing I would eat from there!

I remember reading somewhere once that the average person gains 7 lbs on a 7 day cruise. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I bet it’s not far off! Staying active is definitely key, so you’ll have no problem ;)

PS I always look forward to exploring new gyms when I travel too. Kinda geeky maybe? :P

Thanks, Amy

Make sure you hit up the running track on your ship if it has one (it should). I had some awesome runs last summer on the ship. The track is short and crowded, but if you go early it shouldn’t be bad. It was nice to get out there early before everyone else is up!

I have been on 4 cruises and I do enjoy them. It’s nice to be able to see many different places and still have all of the comforts and familiarites of the ship atmosphere.

Hope you have a complete blast! You have such a solid approach to eating and healthy living that there is no possible way you could overdo it. And even if you do, no biggie, you will just get right back to your routine when you return.

Take care and have a sage and wonderful trip!
