Impromtu Hike

by Meghann on June 14, 2009

Just when I thought my day was calming down and the word ‘nap’ was circulating in my head, my Dad suggested we take a drive around the neighborhood to scoop the place out.

Only in my family would a ‘drive around the block’ turn into a full blown 3 mile hike!

We came across a trailhead for Rainbow Falls and decided ‘Why Not?’

CIMG6111.JPG

It was a mile and a half hike to the falls and a mile and a half back up. Who cares that we didn’t have proper hiking supplies and flip flops on.

CIMG6086.JPG

Bring it on!

The way down wasn’t that bad. The dogs happily took the lead and guided us along the way.

CIMG6110.JPG

The toughest point was the last .25 miles that went straight up hill. Once we made it to the top though, the views were breath taking and worth it.

CIMG6090.JPG

Then we got a little greedy and had to get as close as possible to the edge.

CIMG6103.JPG

It would have been all good if it weren’t for the slippery nasty mud I slipped in to get those pics.

CIMG6097.JPG

Ewww…. I was a mess!

CIMG6108.JPG

I was already a little hungry when we started the trail just before 5:00, so by the time we hit the turn around point I was Hangry and ready to be done so I could get home to eat. Being covered in mud didn’t help either!

When we finally mad it back to the car my siblings and I fought over the crumbs that were left of the Trader Joe Peanut Butter Pretzels.

CIMG6084.JPG

We licked the bag clean!

Dinner had to be quick and easy with 6 hangry people waiting to bite each other’s heads off. It was a great 20 minutes or less meal that was a solid team effort.

CIMG6112.JPG

My plate had a Sun Dried Tomato Chicken Sausage, Sweet Potato Fries & Asparagus with some Spicy Brown Mustard for dipping.

I also felt I needed to Blue Moon to enjoy with my dinner.

CIMG6114.JPG

I felt so much better after I ate. Too good for words. :)

Also too good for words was the serving of Cookies & Cream Ice Cream I had after dinner.

Now I truly am exhausted and ready to call it a night. We have a fun excursion to Asheville planned for tomorrow! :)

Good Night!

I have probably already commented on this before, but I am in LOVE with Scooby! My family had a boxer for 10 years and they are so handsome and funny and energetic. Love him!

I’ve been to Rainbow Falls… so beautiful. I am glad you’re enjoying the NC mountains. Don’t forget to check out Earth Fare (a South East version of Whole Foods).

Hiking is the best form of exercise. The satisfaction of making it to the top, or wherever you are going, is always such a high.
BTW- I prefer eating ice cream out of a cup/mug too!

I can’t believe I still haven’t been to Rainbow Falls. I need to get out and hike,I haven’t been at all this summer! Enjoy Asheville, there are so many awesome places to eat: Laughing Seed (vegetarian), Salsa’s, Tupelo Honey, Early Girl Eatery, Doc Chey’s, Kubo, Thai Basil, Mela Indian, Jerusalem Garden, Okay, I’ll stop listing them now, I’m getting hungry!

Happy (belated) birthday to precious Abbie! =)

Man, the Japanese workaholic schedule is killing me. So jealous of your trekking and water sports in NC!!

…gotta wait a month and 6 days to go London/6 weeks to India! (The Japanese co-workers almost have strokes when they hear about the week and a half there and the week and a half in India…) =)

Enjoy it for all it’s worth!
