Impromtu Hike

by Meghann on June 14, 2009

Just when I thought my day was calming down and the word ‘nap’ was circulating in my head, my Dad suggested we take a drive around the neighborhood to scoop the place out.

Only in my family would a ‘drive around the block’ turn into a full blown 3 mile hike!

We came across a trailhead for Rainbow Falls and decided ‘Why Not?’

It was a mile and a half hike to the falls and a mile and a half back up. Who cares that we didn’t have proper hiking supplies and flip flops on.

Bring it on!

The way down wasn’t that bad. The dogs happily took the lead and guided us along the way.

CIMG6110.JPG

The toughest point was the last .25 miles that went straight up hill. Once we made it to the top though, the views were breath taking and worth it.

Then we got a little greedy and had to get as close as possible to the edge.

CIMG6103.JPG

It would have been all good if it weren’t for the slippery nasty mud I slipped in to get those pics.

CIMG6097.JPG

Ewww…. I was a mess!

CIMG6108.JPG

I was already a little hungry when we started the trail just before 5:00, so by the time we hit the turn around point I was Hangry and ready to be done so I could get home to eat. Being covered in mud didn’t help either!

When we finally mad it back to the car my siblings and I fought over the crumbs that were left of the Trader Joe Peanut Butter Pretzels.

We licked the bag clean!

Dinner had to be quick and easy with 6 hangry people waiting to bite each other’s heads off. It was a great 20 minutes or less meal that was a solid team effort.

CIMG6112.JPG

My plate had a Sun Dried Tomato Chicken Sausage, Sweet Potato Fries & Asparagus with some Spicy Brown Mustard for dipping.

I also felt I needed to Blue Moon to enjoy with my dinner.

CIMG6114.JPG

I felt so much better after I ate. Too good for words. :)

Also too good for words was the serving of Cookies & Cream Ice Cream I had after dinner.

Now I truly am exhausted and ready to call it a night. We have a fun excursion to Asheville planned for tomorrow! :)

Good Night!

Watersports = Killer Work Out

by Meghann on June 14, 2009

Today I rediscovered an awesome work out.

CIMG6071.JPG

Hello buff arms thanks to knee boarding. ;) I always forget how tiring water sports are… I LOVE IT!

Water sports weren’t my only exercise of the day though, my Sister and I started the morning with my lakeside boot camp work out.

CIMG5984.JPG

Here’s how it worked:

  • 10 suicides up and down the hill
  • 30 Butt Kicks
  • 30 Jump Ropes
  • 30 High Knees
  • 30 Jumping Jacks
  • 30 Criss Crosses
  • 50 Crunches
  • 10 Push ups
  • Repeat the circuit 5 times

CIMG5990.JPG

My Mom & Aunt started the bootcamp with us but only made it through three rounds until they called it quits. I give major props for them for trying though.

CIMG5988.JPG

After the boot camp I did two sets of walking lunges across the yard, various core work and then cooled down with some yoga to stretch everything out. We also took the doggies for a morning walk.

I was super excited for the Whole Wheat Pancakes my Dad prepared for breakfast.

CIMG5994.JPG

I topped the pancakes with Plain Non-Fat Yogurt, Strawberries & Blueberries.

After breakfast it was boat time!

CIMG6017.JPG

We had fun taking turns making fools of ourselves behind the boat.

When we were little we used to take a boat out and go knee boarding every summer. We used to kick butt doing 360s, jump, double teaming, but now I felt lucky just to be able to get up.

CIMG6002.JPG

CIMG6011.JPG

Trust me there were a lot of wipe outs!

CIMG6028.JPG

Kelly was the star of the morning with her Wake Boarding and Water Sking Skills.

CIMG6019.JPG

My breakfast didn’t really feel be up so I had a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Odwalla Bar on the boat.

CIMG6003.JPG

We pulled back up to the cabin for a quick lunch around noon.

CIMG6053.JPG

CIMG6052.JPG

I had a Grilled Cheese, Spinach & Tomato Sandwich with Cauliflower, Chips & Salsa.

CIMG6056.JPG

The sammie really hit the spot. :)

CIMG6058.JPG

Of course after lunch there was more boat action.

CIMG6043.JPG

Who knew Kelly knows how to drive a boat?

CIMG6049.JPG

After my turn I had an orange slice.

CIMG6077.JPG

The weather started to turn cloudy so we called it quits for the day. I was looking forward to a nice cold Apple to crunch on.

I had wonderful plans to take full advantage of the beautiful deck for the remainder of this afternoon with a good book. Have I said how much I love vacations yet?
