Universal Adventure with Friends!

by Meghann on May 25, 2009

Today I discovered yet another wonderful reason why I am happy to have purchased my annual pass to Universal…. Big Discounts on Tickets for friends!

I have been trying to drag Melissa and her boyfriend, Brad, to Orlando for a while so they can experience a true Orlando theme park. With the Monday holiday and my ability to provide a 50% discount per ticket, the timing could not have been better and we were all able to enjoy both parks the entire day.

We were all pleasantly surprised to enjoy relatively short lines and blue skies the entire day! In an 8 hour time frame we managed to hit all of the best rides in both theme parks and have time to goof around.

Hulk is by far one of my favorite rides of the parks. I promised Brad I would put this one on the blog just for him. πŸ˜‰

Does this pose not remind everyone else of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

One of the key successes to get through both parks relatively quickly on a holiday, is the option of being a single rider.

DSCN0677.JPG

As long as you don’t mind your party being separated the single rider option can easily cut your wait time from 45 minutes to 15. Seriously worth it.

Thanks to some hidden pockets in my back pack and selecting the check bag line with the elderly man I managed to sneak in a pretty decent lunch to munch on around noon.

I had a bag of dried Raspberries, Blackberry Bread (courtesy of Melissa), Carrots, and Almond Butter. It was a great lunch that gave me plenty of the energy to make my way through the rest of the park.

We spent the rest of the afternoon getting soaked.

Water rides are the best! We hit up three in a row and definitely cooled ourselves down.

Aren’t these two the cutest? πŸ™‚

At one point we wandered into one of the candy shops and discovered chocolate covered gummy bears. Apparently these are Melissa’s favorite, so I had to try one.

DSCN0693.JPG

It was… interesting. Not bad, but not great either. I guess it is something you get used to.

The best part about walking from Islands of Adventure to Universal Studios is the TCBY along the way.

DSCN0694.JPG

How could we resist? I had a small cup of Peanut Butter/ Vanilla Swirl with Blueberries.

We spent many more hours in Universal riding The Simpsons, Men in Black, Mummy & Shrek 4D. With all that walking and waiting my stomach started to growl. Luckily, I had one of Ashley’s Homemade Granola Bars still hidden in my back pack.

The rain that had been forecasted for today finally started to pour down right when we decided it was time to call it a day. Perfect timing right? It was really a great day at the parks with friends and I am so glad both Melissa and Brad got a chance to visit atleast one theme park while they were here!

Dinner this evening was quick, delish and uncomplicated.

DSCN0702.JPG

I made Bagel Pizza with some Tomato Chutney, Basil, Raw Cheese, & Cherry Tomatoes.

DSCN0703.JPG

The Raw Cheese was interesting. It was suppose to be ‘sharp chedder’ but was not sharp at all in fact the cheese in itself was very mild. It melted great on the pizza and I would never have guessed it was raw at all.

On the side I had some Cauliflower and Broccoli that I dipped in a Hummus/ Tomato Chutney Combo.

DSCN0704.JPG

The Hummus mixed with the Tomato Chutney was a genious idea on my part. It gave the boring hummus just the right kick. Yum!

I was really craving a Blondie when I finished dinner. Good thing I had Amanda’s Peanut Butter Trail Mix ones waiting for me in the fridge.

I had 1/2 of the perfect blondie.

I am so sad the long weekend is now over, but sooo happy I only have a three day work week!!! San Diego here I come!

I’m glad you had such a good time! I did nothing special today except two amazing hours of Polly’s yoga! Can’t wait to hear about San Diego! I’m sure I’ll say this again before you leave, but Good luck! You’re going to be awesome!!!!

Sounds like an awesome way to spend your Memorial Day! (Melissa and her boyfriend ARE the cutest…awww!)

Way to go picking out the line with the older gentleman checking bags! That is the worse part about theme parks and concerts – you can’t bring your own food and what they have is expensive and usually not healthy!

Looks like a fun time!

6 Tanya May 25, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Water rides rock! Looks like a fantastic day – and great bagel pizza idea – gonna have to use that πŸ™‚

I think I want to move to Florida just so I can go to Universal on a regular basis – instead of a ‘once in a lifetime’ basis!

That looks great! I have never been there, though I’ve been to Orlando several times. Enjoy the short week. πŸ™‚

Glad you had such a great day! You’re lucky to have friends that are game for water rides, no one ever wants to get wet when I go to theme parks!

20 Rachel May 25, 2009 at 11:06 pm

I love that you brought your own snacks! I’m still working at integrating that habit into my own life, so it’s neat to see what other people do. And I love amusement parks – I’m so jealous!

21 Erin May 25, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Hmm, who’s missing?? πŸ™‚

25 peacelovepb May 26, 2009 at 6:20 am

now that sounds like a perfect memorial day to me!! so jealous of the pb/vanilla swirl ice cream!! YUM

26 Meganerd May 26, 2009 at 6:50 am

I’m glad you found something yummy to sneak in. I think its odd that they won’t let you bring food in. They should be more understanding that people don’t want to eat their crap. I had a season pass last year and I don’t remember not being able to bring in food. Maybe I just always hid it and so never learned the rules. πŸ™‚

27 ksgoodeats May 26, 2009 at 9:23 am

Glad you guys had a great time!! Congrats for sneaking the food in! I knew you could do it πŸ˜‰

28 Quinn May 26, 2009 at 10:12 am

Chocolate covered gummy bears are definitely something you get used to over time. I didn’t like them at first, and now I’m obsessed.

And now I seriously want some TCBY!

29 Danielle May 26, 2009 at 10:52 am

Looks like so much fun!

30 Sarah (from See Sarah Eat) May 26, 2009 at 10:54 am

How awesome that you were able to sneak all that food in! I agree with Meganerd, they should be more understanding. Especially if there are people with allergies or special diets too.

I’ll have to tell my husband about chocolate covered gummy bears, he will likely gag! He’s a big fan of the bears not of chocolate though, haha.

31 Stacey May 26, 2009 at 1:18 pm

No fair! our TCBY doesn’t have the peanut butter flavor! Thats it. I am going to make a sign and protest.

Looks like a fun day!
