Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

DSCN0282.JPG

My work place is always looking for a good reason to celebrate and what better way to celebrate then Cinco de Mayo?

Just as the work day was winding down a couple of co-workers and I decorated our main conference room with fiesta favors.

DSCN0283.JPG

We also set out some Tortilla Chips with Guacamole and Salsa.

DSCN0288.JPG

And these was the mandatory assortment of Mexican Beers.

DSCN0286.JPG

But the main attraction was what was in store for these babies.

DSCN0285.JPG

The kind people at Breville loaned me a Breville Die-Cast Hemisphere Blender to test out and review for the next week. As soon as the package arrived last Thursday, my co-workers instantly started making comments how all I needed was some Tequilla and Margarita Mix to get a party started. Ironically enough today I was supplied with the Tequilla and Margarita Mix to put their theories to the test.

DSCN0281.JPG

I was put in charge in making the Margaritas for the party and I hate to admit it, but I’m not sure I’ve made a margarita since sophomore year of college. So, I kept it nice and simple and merely followed the directions on the back of the Bacardi can.

DSCN0287.JPG

In the Blender went

  • 1 can of Bacardi Mix
  • 1 can full of Tequilla
  • Lots of Ice

The blender was AMAZING! It took SECONDS for the blender to produce perfect margaritas! Everyone was raving about the margaritas and very impressed there weren’t large pieces of ice floating around, they were the perfect texture.

I can’t wait to use the Hemisphere Blender for my smoothie tomorrow!

I had a spoonful of a margarita to test and I have to pat myself on the back for a job well done.

I almost reached for a beer to celebrate, but decided it wasn’t worth it. Instead I just had a small plate of dip and chips.

DSCN0290.JPG

I knew I wasn’t going to make it to 4:30 to snack on the chips so around 2:30 I had a piece of Dried Pineapple and Mango to hold me over.

DSCN0278.JPG

For dinner I considered sticking with the Cinco de Mayo theme, but I was craving some roasted veggies and stuck with my original meal plan.

DSCN0293.JPG

On the bottom of the bowl is about 1/4 package of this Rice Pilaf I picked up from Trader Joes in Long Beach.

DSCN0291.JPG

I love these prepackaged pilafs and this one was particularly tasty and filled with lots of great nuts and grains.

DSCN0294.JPG

On top of the pilaf is a mix of roasted veggies that includes

  • Sweet Potato
  • Parsnip
  • Onion
  • Apple
  • Brussel Sprouts

Lastly, some BBQ Tempeh.

DSCN0297.JPG

The BBQ Tempeh was some plain Tempeh I heated up on the stove top with Annie’s BBQ Sauce.

THe whole dish had the potential to be really good, but it had an odd earthy flavor to it. It was just ok and something I need to look at improving on. Maybe some more BBQ Sauce next time? Who knows.

Luckily dessert made up for the lackluster dinner thanks to this little beauty.

Why Hello, Mocha Almond Fudge Coconut Milk Ice Cream. Where have you been all my life?

I had 1/2 cup serving with a sprinkle of Chocolate is For Lovers Granola on top.

DSCN0308.JPG

I AM IN LOVE!!! This Ice Cream was rich, it was decadent and it was wonderful. All the flavors were there, tantalizing my tastebuds with their yumminess. This might have to be a ice cream I am forced to hide from myself. It’s just too good for my own good. πŸ™‚

Now I must distract myself from not going back into the kitchen and digging in the freezer. I am full, I am satisfied and ice cream does not control my life. Who am I kidding? One more spoonful isn’t going to hurt anybody. πŸ˜‰

what a fun work party! I really wish I worked at a place other than a university – no alcohol at any of our parties πŸ™

I love that brand of ice cream. I haven’t seen that flavor, but the one I had was awesome, too.

what a fun work party, your office always sounds like so much fun!

4 Jennifer May 5, 2009 at 7:38 pm

How fun! My work parties always consist of a bucket of KFC, slaw, and biscuits every. single. month. Gross! That blender looks awesome!

Horay for Cinco De Mayo parties! Your work seems like such a laid back and fun atmosphere….2pm happy hour?!?! That’s awesome!

I love your morning schedule overview. I am just like you, in that I am up and at um every day by 4:45, 5 mile run, shower, dress, eat, blog, clean up and out the door at exactly 7:50 to be at work by 7:58pm. Haha, I’m down to the minute too! I love my morning routine and would be lost without it.

Hope you are having a wonderful week so far.

I’d be all over a Meghann- made margarita, fo sho. I have the oldest blender ever and would probably make smoothies and fun things regularly if I had an awesome one like the Breville. Somday, someday.

That ice cream sounds incredible! I’d eat the whole thing in one night πŸ™‚

Too bad dinner wasn’t all you imagined and more…I love BBQ tofu, but I’ve always bought it from the health food store, I’ve never tried to make it myself. Happy Cinco De Mayo!

“I had a spoonful of a margarita to test and I have to pat myself on the back for a job well done.”

LOL, you are too cute! Congrats on the successful office shindig, and especially on the fabulous dinner…. that BBQ tempeh looks slammin’! You’re always so creative with your recipes that I would love love love to see what other ideas for tempeh you come up with.

that ice cream looks uhhhh-mazing!! You better not get that near me though…I don’t think I will leave a spoonful behind. πŸ™‚

17 Hallie May 5, 2009 at 9:21 pm

What a fun work party! Especially for something silly like Cinco de Mayo πŸ™‚

I don’t really like blended margaritas…I want to taste the tequila if I’m going all out like that, and with most blended drinks all I can taste is the slush.

18 Bridget May 5, 2009 at 10:38 pm

I miss those chips and salsa!! Mmm.

Looks like a great party!

19 broccolihut May 6, 2009 at 12:02 am

23 Elina May 6, 2009 at 7:31 am

I wonder how that compares to the VitaMix.

25 Jaime May 6, 2009 at 9:41 am

Breville “loaned” you the blender? How does that work? Do you get to keep it?? It looks fab…we’ve needed a new blender forever!!!
