[me] & goji review

by Meghann on May 4, 2009

It felt great to be on my regular routine this morning of wake up, take Abbie outside, eat pre-work out snack of 1/2 z-bar, work out, shower, & breakfast. I have my morning routine down to a science so that I don’t wait a second of my morning before work.

On Mondays I run with my TnT group after work, so this morning I flipped through ExerciseTV on demand for work out inspiration. I settled on the 20 minute Biggest Loser Boot Camp and 20 minute Biggest Lost Yoga sessions.

These were new ones that I had not seen before and featured contestants from the previous season. It was a good light work out, but maybe because they were cutting it down for exerciseTV but I felt like there was a big chunk missing from the middle of each work out.

Over the last month I have had the wonderful opportunity of sampling customized Cereals, Granolas, & Bars. To round out the wonderful customized products out there, the people at [me] & goji contacted me the other week to sample and review their product out as well. With my love for cereal, how could I say no?

[me] & goji was founded in September as the first custom cereal and granola company. It’s customized cereals are packed with nutrient-rich superfoods and cater to any specific taste or dietary needs with no added artificial or synthetic ingredients. They even have gluten-free options!

Not only are their cereals healthy for your body, but [me] & goji strive to make sure producing the cereals are healthy for the environment as well. Each cereal canister is 100% recyclable and the actual cereal is mixed by hand in individual batches, not by energy sucking machines. A large portion of their profits is also donated to various charitable organizations.

[me] & goji first perked my interest when the e-mail they sent me had ‘the perfect runner’s cereal’ for the subject line. Under their recommendation page their is a sports mixes category where different customizations are nutritionally recommended for active lifestyles, including a runner’s mix. I took that as an inspiration to create Meghann’s Running Mix.

I went a little crazy adding to mix. There was just too many great options!

It arrived filled to the top with tons of the mix-ins evenly dispersed through the container.

I had a handful first to taste test and I instantly fell in love. i think this is my favorite customizable creation yet! The cinnamon gave it that extra edge, with out adding any unnecessary sugar. The nuts and dried fruit were also great big chunks that I could actually taste in each bite. I think I’m in love!

Meghann’s Running Mix was the star of the cereal show this morning.

I had 1/2 cup of the mix, 1/2 cup Kashi H2H, 2 tablespoons Pecan Praline Granola, Mango, Strawberries, Blueberries, & Non-Fat Vanilla Yogurt.

Mmm…. soo good and just what I needed after a weekend of crazy eats. Like I said getting back into routine feels so nice.

Now, I have to get back into routine at work. Let’s hope this Monday zooms on by!

Hi Meghann,

I’m curious about your morning schedule – what time do you have to leave for work at, and what time do you get up?

I would love the motivation to be so productive in the mornings, but often times I get up with just enough time to shower, dress and run…

5 Meghann May 4, 2009 at 8:54 am

CJ- I get up at 5:30am, take the dog out then work our from 5:45 to 6:45 or 7:00, I then take a shower, have breakfast at 7:20, finish getting ready and am out the door by 7:45 to make it to work at 8:00.

It helps I live right down the street from my job, that I don’t wear make up, pick out all my clothes the night before and am generally a morning person. 🙂

Routine is awesome! It definitely aides in getting things done.

That customized cereal sounds awesome!

Your breakfast also looks very amazing and summery! Yum!

That company sounds awesome! I never workout in the morning since I’m not much of an early riser, but I would like to try as sometimes I’m so tired by afternoon.

sounds like a great cereal!

I’m very jealous of all the delicious looking, probably local, produce you Florida ladies get to eat!

10 Leah May 4, 2009 at 9:41 am

Glad that CJ asked that question. I was going to ask the same thing!!

When do you blog in the morning? At work?

… and when do you read blogs? Or do you? 🙂

Do you have to save time to dry your hair?

I am inspired by your morning routine too!

11 Meghann May 4, 2009 at 9:48 am

Hi Leah, I blog right when I get to work. It doesn’t take long and I usually do it while I am settling in in the morning. I also read blogs throughout the day. It only takes like 5 minutes to blow dry my hair, but honestly I probably don’t do it the healthiest way. I literally just flip my head over and go at it. I then take the straightenter to it and I’m done. I really don’t care about how I look at work and luckily I work in a very casual atmosphere so its no big deal.

12 Leah May 4, 2009 at 9:56 am

Does your job mind that you blog at work? I’ve always been tempted to but I feel like i’d get into trouble or something lol.. I dunno! It would save a lot of time I think.

13 Jennifer May 4, 2009 at 9:58 am

I have been curious about how you do it all before 8 am! I have always wanted to work out in the morning but I can never get my butt out of bed. That cereal looks yummy! Have a great Monday!

14 Sharon May 4, 2009 at 10:12 am

Oh wow, that is so neat with the goji!

15 Marissa May 4, 2009 at 10:59 am

Oh, anything with coconut is good in my book!

16 Sonia May 4, 2009 at 11:12 am

Hi Meghann!

I have a question for you…I have recently started running and am having a lot of problems with my iPod earbuds! They will not stay in my ears no matter how far I jam them in. It’s getting really distracting and I was just wondering what kind of earbuds or headphones you use? I run outside and on the treadmill and have had more problems outside with the earbuds falling out of my ears.

I’d love to know if you have any tips for keeping earbuds in. Also, what kind of music do you listen to when you run?

17 Meghann May 4, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Hi Sonia! I hate the earphones that come with the Ipod too! I have found the Sony Jelly headphones work really well. They come in fun colors, fit snug in my ears and are pretty cheap at Best Buy. Hope that helps!

18 Sonia May 4, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Thank you!! I’m going to check those out right now!

19 Hallie May 4, 2009 at 11:14 am

Thanks for posting the morning routine info! I was also wondering. I am NOT a morning person and tend to dilly dally around, and if I do an AM workout it’s worse LOL. I’m chronically 5-10 minutes late to work, but I usually don’t care (9AM meetings though, kill me) and I’m usually the first one in my department to show up, so it’s all good 🙂

20 Nicole May 4, 2009 at 11:26 am

I love their packaging!

21 runeatrepeat May 4, 2009 at 12:23 pm

I would absolutely love any cereal that was actually called a runner’s mix!

22 Bec May 4, 2009 at 1:04 pm

sounds like a great combo!

23 Carl May 4, 2009 at 2:51 pm

thanks for the kind words Meghann. your bowl with the fresh fruit looks delicious!

if anyone has questions about [me] & goji and creating a mix that meets their tastes or nutritional needs, you can e-mail me, one of the founders, directly at

Wow, you have “your own” cereal! that’s so cool, and looks delicious. I could’ve used “the perfect runner’s cereal” this weekend for my race. I’m so jealous! 🙂

25 Maddie May 5, 2009 at 3:28 pm

I wish I could stick to a routine like you! I am not so much of a morning person though, but definitely a fan of cereal! yum 🙂
I like to do ExerciseTV workouts in the afternoon/evening when I get off work, before I eat dinner. They have a huge selection of videos on their website if you can’t find the right one on-demand. This is one of my favorites right now :

I love working out to ExerciseTV, especially in the morning when it’s too cold to go for a run. Jillian Michaels Biggest Loser workouts are my absolute favorites because they’re so challenging. Here is a bunch more of Jillian’s workouts:
