Fighting the Jet Lag

Running 15 miles the day after I returned from Long Beach seemed like a great idea when I was planning out my training runs, but this morning when the alarm went off at 6:30 I just was not feeling it.

Even though I passed out last night at 10:00 and got well over 8 hours or sleep, I woke up exhausted and running was the last thing on my mind. But I put on my running shoes anyways and pushed myself out the door trying not to give it another thought.

Before I left I did manage to have a Mountain Mix Mojo bar, the lovely Caroline had provided me with in my goodie bag.

I missed my Mojo bars sooo much! I am so glad to have them back on the shelves.

My run started out not so bad. I maintained below 9 minute mile averages, but my body was still dehydrated from my long flight and I was chugging water like there was no tomorrow. My water bottle was empty before mile 9, luckily there was a McDonalds on my route where I was able to fill up. You should have seen the funny looks I got from people waiting in line for their McMuffins when I ran in covered in sweat in my sports bra and filled up my water bottle. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My headphones also were on their last run today. I kept begging them to make it through the end and I promised to lie them in their final resting place when we were finished..i.e. the trash can.

After mile 10 I could feel my energy depleting and my body ready to give up. I pulled out some dried fruit at this point and had three pieces for a little boost.

I knew there was no way I could finish 15 miles today, but I was very happy to have completed 13.69.

When I did make it back to my parents house I immediately jumped in their pool. It was the perfect way to cool down after my long run. ๐Ÿ™‚

While I was showering my Dad was very kind to make me a great big breakfast for after my run. I saw a sweet potato in my Dad’s potato basket and requested Sweet Potato Hashbrowns, it was soo yummy!!

Of course, being my Dad, he could not just leave it as Sweet Potato and added some sausage for ‘extra flavor.’ I will admit that sausage made it tasted good and I continued to pick at the potatoes after I finished my plate.

My Dad also scrambled 2 eggs for me.

And I cut up some fresh strawberries. They were perfectly ripe and sweet. Best Strawberries yet!

With half of a mini Onion Bagel it was the perfect breakfast!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAITLIN!!!

Twenty-five years ago today my farvorite blog sista and BFF in life arrived on this planet. I want to wish Caitlin a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and hope she has an amazing day at Disney with her wonderful husband.

I met Caitlin back in September right after I moved to Orlando. She has took me in under her wing and I could not imagine the last 8 months with out her. Who else would spend hours at grocery stores with me? Go on crazy running adventures? or Gossip with me for hours on all thing Blogs? Caitlin truly is one of the sweetest people ever and I dedicate this day to all things Caitlin! Yay!!!

I don’t think you get jetlagged on some a short time difference. Well maybe some ppl do but not a healthy young women.

A short time difference? I flew clear across the country yesterday after working non-stop while I was in CA for the past 5 days, then got up before the sun rose to attempt to run 15 miles. I am exhausted, thank you.

Meghann = Machine! You are a rockstar for completing 13.69 miles after a loooong work week and long day of traveling! If I was home I would have ran with you! You ran that super fast though! Don’t know if I could have kept up. I ran 10 yesterday on the trail. Trails = cool and shaded in this crazy hot weather. Have a great Sunday!

Wow, I am always DEAD after a plane ride (regardless of time zone switching or whatever), can’t imagine running 14 miles in the Floridian heat!!

Ugh Meghann, ignore that silly first comment. I’ve experienced major jetlag when the time difference was 14 (!) hours, and also when it’s only 3. It just messes your body up. Even with daylight savings my whole body clock gets screwed up!

Good for you on running 13.69 miles after being on your feet the whole entire week and jetting across the country!

I don’t think you really ate hashbrowns with your breakfast. Maybe some people do, but not you.

Jet lag SUCKS when it hits you and I’d get it all the time on my cross-country flights in college. That is all.

Great job on your run! The fact that you got out of bed to do anything other than eat breakfast is quite impressive. I need to recover after a long drive, let alone a flight!

my shoes were apparently on their last run yesterday because a few miles in, my knees and shins started to hurt and that’s when i know that my cushioning is shot.

LOL, I would TOTALLY spend hours in the grocery store with you! I can spend hours in the grocery store by myself! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s one of my “happy places”, LOL!

But you’re right- Caitlin is awesome and she deserves an awesome birthday! And I’m really glad she had one!
