Welcome to my neck of the woods (eh…well close enough). I don’t like beer, but the food at Rock Bottom is actually decent, for what it is. Good entree salads.

And it sounds like you don’t want another greasy food adventure, but you might want to consider stopping at In N Out for a burger to the complete So Cal experience. And if you do, ask for “whole grilled onions” on the burger…so good!

    Good luck tomorrow!

even though you didn’t feel 100% fantastic last night, seeing how you put your own healthy twist on things but still enjoy the fun is great. overall, you’re doing such an amazing job — breakfast cookie, a healthy lunch, drinks in moderation — plus the run you have planned for the AM sounds fantastic!

i am dying to try pinkberry. DYING! i have trader joe’s in walking distance from my house (well, more like running distance) but i rarely go there!

It is definitely tricky to stay healthy on business trips – it often seems like I am the only one who cares about being healthy!! My trick is to exercise in the am, keep breakfast and lunch completely in check, and then enjoy a drink or two with co-workers while trying to keep dinner reasonable. Just remember that you’ll be back to normal soon!!

Welcome to the West Coast! I am from San Diego and I love the Yard House! They really do have the best beer selection in town. And if you haven’t been to a Trader Joe’s yet, you’re in for a treat! You can definitely spend a good amount of time wandering around in there reading about all their products. I haven’t been to a Pinkberry, but my husband and I LOVE Golden Spoon, another frozen yogurt place. Enjoy your week!

I love your quest for Trader Joes! i remember when i moved from FL to NC I FREAKED OUT when i figured out our apartment was 2 miles from a Trader Joes and 1 mile from a target. what more could a girl want?

Having just recently flown out to San Fran for work I understand the weird flying back in time thing! LOVE YardHouse. They opened one in Palm Beach Garden 2 years ago and it was one of my fave places to go while I was still in school down there!
Enjoy the rest of your trip.
PS. Glad that you got to go to PinkBerry. I didn’t get the chance when I was there and really wanted to go, since I love Gurtzberry in Winter Park so much.

I know how that feels after you’ve eaten a big, filling meal..not fun at all. I think that’s great that you’re trying to make healthy choices while on business. It can be challenging when you see everyone else indulging…have a wonderful trip:)

  38. Sarah
    April 22, 2009

I used to travel a lot for work- and sometimes I was away for 2 or more months at a time! It’s definitely challenging. I always did the normal breakfast & lunch, and splurge a little at dinner approach. Unfortunately travelling for work also meant very long hours for me, so I often missed my workouts. Even though it was not the healthiest, I still had so many great experiences. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Glad you got in safely, and great foresight with the oatmeal breakfast cookie. I’ve got to do that for my next morning flight.

We have Rock Bottoms here. They are kind of meh…

I used to travel a lot at another company, and I found I often lost weight on those trips and was able to maintain. You’re going to be running around, not snacking, and you don’t want to be the colleague that “drank too much last night.” You’ll do great and I have every confidence that you will find your balance out there. Enjoy it!

Glad you are enjoying California so far. I think you have a healthy attitude for your eating. I used to be in Sales and traveled often to Trade Shows..*danger*danger*!!! The key is…stay away from the booze.
You will looooove Trader Joe’s! Be sure you give yourself plenty of time to cruise every aisle! Enjoy.

That’s how I get when I have to eat out all the time when traveling. Sometimes it makes me blah to eat out that much and I wish I could have a little kitchen to make things myself. Have a good trip!

while pinkberry is fab i find its older cousin BABY-YO in italia to be much tastier.. it is less sweet and more lemony.

i hate food coma. thanks for being so honest with us, it is good to know i am not the only one that gets sucked into such situations. sometimes i forget that i don’t HAVE to order a drink/eat my whole meal/order an app even if everyone else is.

also, great job on the eating out modifications!

I am so glad that you were able to try Pinkberry. My favorite is the Pomegranate flavor with granola, rasberries and blueberries – it really is the best stuff (Golden Spoon is good for ice cream flavored yogurt, but Pinkberry has great yogurt flavored yogurt).

If you are near the Rock Bottom brewery, you may be near Pine Street. If so, I strongly recommend that you try Sevilla – excellent, excellent Spanish food!

And, please do the breakfast cookie for dummies instruction when you get back – I can’t figure out how that would work, but it sounds soooo good!
