I decided yesterday that this morning would be the morning I try running 7 miles before work instead of my normal 4-5. The thought of running 7 miles in the morning was really comforting and I looked forward to the distance while I slept during the night.
When the alarm went off at 5:30 I was still anxious for the 7 miles and was out the door at 5:50. The weather was the perfect temp, the sky was still dark and my legs felt great. I easily completed the 7 mile in 1:06:44. Even though I know I can’t run too many miles every morning, this makes me realize that I want to pick up my mileage at least two runs a week leading up to my marathon.
Last week Joel from You Bars sent me a few samples to test out and review for the blog.
I love the concept of You Bars and it’s Build-A-Bar and Make-A-Shake concept. Basically you select what goes into the bar or shake mix. Everything is all natural and because you are choosing all the ingredients, you know exactly what’s going in there.
Instead of building my own bars and shakes, Joel sent me an assortment of their popular buys, which is another alternative you can order if you were feeling uncreative at the moment.
Unfortunately two of the three shake mixes he sent me contained Banana, so I will be unable to sample those, but this Vanilla Dreams mix was banana free.
The Vanilla Dreams Shake Mix contains Soy Protein, Organic Cane Juice, Organic Vanilla Powder (Organic Sucrose, Organic Vanilla bean Extractives).
Into my blender I added the Vanilla Dreams mix with some Ice, Fat Free Milk, Strawberries, & Peanut Butter.
It ended up tasting like a Vanilla-Strawberry-Peanut Butter Milk Shake. 🙂 It was good, but I’m starting to realize my blender sucks because I was chewing the ice before then drinking the shake. The shake mix was very mellow and not to over powering of a sweet or vanilla flavor so the peanut butter taste really shined through, which I enjoyed.
With the Vanilla Dream Shake I also sampled the Breakfast Bar I was sent.
The Breakfast Bar had a short list of pure ingredients: Dates, Egg White Powder, Honey, Cocoa Powder, Instant Coffee Crystals (caffeinated), Cinnamon.
I should start off by saying that I do not like coffee, but I sometimes like coffee flavored things.. such as Ice Cream….but this tasted like coffee from a cup. Not my cup of tea. The flavors were all off and just didn’t mix. I honestly had two bits before chucking it and grabbing a handful of Kashi H2H and Kashi Go Lean Crunch instead.
This flavor may be good for some people, just not for me.
In conclusion I wish I would have had the opportunity to build my own bar and shake mixes so that I could have done a fairer review of the site. I am a very picky eater so this idea would be much more suited for me. So my opinion is if you do use YouBars, don’t by the popular ones, have fun & be creative to build you own because really that’s the point of the site. 🙂
