A Beautiful Day to Ski

by Meghann on February 1, 2009

What a BEAUTIFUL day in Breckenridge, Colorado!

DSCN0078.JPG

The sun was shining bright, but let me tell you looks can be deceiving! It was COLD today. It was very windy this morning and it did not let up all day. Luckily you could only feel the bitterness while riding the ski lifts, the rest was perfect.

I managed to naturally wake up this morning around 4:00 am…. stupid change of time. I managed to toss and turn and slept a couple of more hours until I was wide awake at 6:30. The rest of my family was already awake as well watching tv.

I snacked on a piece of Publix Granola while joining them in watching the morning news.

DSCN0064.JPG

My Dad was in charge of breakfast and he put together a breakfast feast that kept me full for hours.

DSCN0066.JPG

I had Dad’s famous Hashbrowns, 2 Scrambled Eggs, a piece of Whole Wheat toast and a mix of Blueberries and Blackberries.

Since its been a couple of years since I’ve been on the slopes we took the morning warming my legs up. We hit some nice easy trails staying with my Aunt and Mom for the majority of the morning.

DSCN0082.JPG

After a couple fun runs with the ‘slow pokes’ my Dad and I stopped midmorning for some Hot Tea.

DSCN0083.JPG

And I snacked on a Peppermint Stick Luna Bar.

DSCN0073.JPG

OMG, this bar was good. My favorite Luna bar by far!

DSCN0084.JPG

It tasted just like a Girl Scout Thin Mint… too bad the only time I have ever seen one is here. I will have to stock up before I leave.

DSCN0088.JPG

I’m telling you it’s hard to take a bad picture here.

DSCN0086.JPG

DSCN0099.JPG

We met my Aunt and Mom back at the condo for lunch. I made a wonderful sandwich of left over Acorn Squash, Avocado, Tomato, Swiss Cheese, and Dijon Mustard.

DSCN0094.JPG

I also cut up an Apple on the side.

DSCN0095.JPG

This combo was so tasty and I enjoyed every bite. It left me satisfied and ready to take on the other half of the mountain.

Dad and I spent the rest of the afternoon on Peak 7.

DSCN0092.JPG

When we had enough of freezing on the mountain my Dad and I came back to the condo where I enjoyed the last 1/4 of the Avocado from lunch which I mashed together with some Tomato, then used as a dip for a serving of Stacey’s Pita Chips I had brought from home.

DSCN0100.JPG

It was a great snack.

And of course no ski day is complete with out a dip in the hot tub with a Fat Tire Beer.

(Check out the socks and flip flops I’m still rocking here ๐Ÿ™‚ )
DSCN0103.JPG

I always have to enjoy the Fat Tires while I’m in Colorado; you can’t get them in Florida. Such a great beer and the perfect way to unwind after a long day on the slopes.

DSCN0108.JPG

Dinner was another home cooked meal courtesy of Super Chef Dad.

DSCN0110.JPG

He made a Pork Tenderloin which he baked in a yummy Beer Sauce of sorts with lots of Onions and Garlic. He also boiled some Cauliflower on the side. I cut up a GIANT Carrot and some Tomato to round out the veggies on my plate.

For dessert I had a small serving of Dreyers (haha not Edys ๐Ÿ™‚ ) Slow Churned Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, which I bulked up with some fresh Strawberries.

DSCN0111.JPG

I found the Blackberries and Blueberries on sale at Safeway yesterday for 88 cents a piece and today I found Strawberries at the local City Market for 99 cents. It’s all fine by me, I was afraid I was going to have to live a week without my berries. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We have a big day planned tomorrow. My cousin from Colorado Springs is driving over for a day of sking and my Twin Bro is flying in late tomorrow night, so I am sure I will have lots more fun stuff to report back on. Have a great day at work/ school tomorrow!

It’s awesome that you’re keeping up the good (and healthy!) eats while you’re there.

Sorry about the cold, but I’m glad you have a nice hot tub and beer to keep you warm. The socks and flipflops are HOT, by the way!

20 sarahannmatheny February 2, 2009 at 2:17 am

Only you could rock socks and flipflops, fleece and a bikini, pigtails and a beer…all at once!!! I laughed out loud, but in a good way!

21 Bridget February 2, 2009 at 4:53 am

I miss Fat tire!!! My brother got my family hooked on it! I have had it somewhere in Florida…not the Ale House. If I think of it, I will let you know!!

Does the elevation bother you at all? It always bothers me when I go back to Wyoming to see my parents!.

Hope you have another good day on the slopes!!

22 Kelly February 2, 2009 at 7:16 am

Happy February! I like those publix granola pieces you have. Those berries you have are super cheap. I actually wonder how you eat berries all the time. Do you catch them on sale or do you just pay the reg price? Breck looks beautiful. I believe you when you say it’s really cold but it looks warm because it’s so sunny. I see you are getting good use out of the jacket I got you for xmas! Tell everyone I say hi.

23 VeggieGirl February 2, 2009 at 7:38 am

So jealous of your vacation though I feel like I definitely need one soon. I just counted how many days until mine and it’s 103 days! I hope it goes by quickly!

47 Marianne February 2, 2009 at 3:02 pm

Looks like a wonderful vacation! I haven’t skied since I was 12. And considering I live near the mountains, I guess that’s pretty sad.

Wish we had peanut butter cup ice cream here too!

48 ttfn300 February 2, 2009 at 4:35 pm

49 kilax February 2, 2009 at 5:53 pm

What is in your dad’s hashbrowns? They look yummy. I love breakfast food.

What a fun day! Relaxing in the hot tub is the perfect ending!

50 Beth February 2, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Hi Meghann, just wanted to let you know that I have found those Luna bars at various Target stores. Hope you’re having a wonderful time!

51 HangryPants February 2, 2009 at 7:07 pm

The flip flops and socks KILL me! You’re so funny to boldly rock them everywhere.

Oh, and I wanted to tell you that I think there was a mistake in my Barney Butter Pancakes – it said 1 T Baking Powder, but should have said 1 t. Elina (Healthy and Sane) brought this to my attention. Maybe that’s why you had some problems?

52 Lindsay February 2, 2009 at 7:54 pm

looks like you are having an awesome trip!!!!!!! that hot tub looks like a great time ๐Ÿ™‚

53 Erin February 2, 2009 at 9:00 pm

Those pictures are amazing! I’m jealous that you have access to a hot tub.

Is the skin of acorn squash edible? I always cut it off.

54 Sweet and Fit February 2, 2009 at 9:18 pm

our pictures are gorgeous! and you look awesome! I have seen that peppermint luna bar around, but always resisted buying it – no idea why…but now that I now it kinda tastes like a thin mint I must just have to pick one up =) hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

55 Alexia February 2, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Looks like you are having a blast!!! The snow is so pretty as well as the scenery! I am glad you are having a good time. I bought that Luna Bar today and I am glad it got a good review. Can’t wait to try it!

Have fun!

56 Heather Eats Almond Butter February 2, 2009 at 11:38 pm

Breckenridge looks beautiful. Keep the snow capped mountain pictures coming!

That’s one of my favorite Lunas as well – gosh, I haven’t had one in years. Thanks for reminding me.

Fat Tire – they just started selling that here in Nashville. Hopefully, it will make its way down to Florida soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

57 Erin February 3, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Fat Tire is the best. I used to live a mile from NEw Belgium Brewery in Foco. I am jealous of u!
