Like a Kid in a Candy Store

by Meghann on January 10, 2009

All I can say about the Disney running expo.. is WoW!

DSCN1572.JPG

I felt like a kid in a Candy Store! I wanted EVERYTHING!! This was my first experience at a running expo and I have to say I need to seek out more. It was so great to be surrounded by all of the things I obsess over with people who equally obsess over them. :)

Before I hit the Expo I stopped at Whole Foods for some lunch.

DSCN1541.JPG

I got a bite of everything, I’m not even going to attempt to try to remember what I grabbed. I can say that I loved the BBQ Seitan and the Tofu was a little blah for my taste. Everything else was good, but not as rememberable.

I also had an Honest Tea with my lunch.

DSCN1542.JPG

And did a little shopping (more details on that tomorrow)

DSCN1544.JPG

When I arrived at the expo I had to take care of business first, so I headed to the volunteer tent to sign a waiver and pick up my badge for tomorrow.

DSCN1549.JPG

I have to be in the parking lot at 6:15am, which means I need to wake up at 4:30..grrr…. I have been assigned to Screaming Fans. The guy who gave me my packet told me that basically means I will be at the finish line helping the crowd cheer on the finishers. He told me he had the job last year and enjoyed it. I guess those days of cheerleading in high school are going to come in handy. :)

DSCN1551.JPG

I was so excited to go to the running expo after I picked up my packet that I practically ran there. I’m sure I had this wide eyed goofy grin walking in, but really.. who cares? I decided to take my time walking the floor and tried to hit every booth for information that I could.

DSCN1552.JPG

Everyone, who was anyone in the world of running had a booth in the expo. From representatives with Polar to Champion, Garmin, Asics… they had it all.

DSCN1554.JPG

I was very happy to see the Clif bar booth. They had yummy free samples!

DSCN1561.JPG

I tried a Strawberry Shot Block… Yum!

DSCN1562.JPG

and a chunk of a Peanut Butter Builder Bar…. it was ok.

DSCN1564.JPG

I would have tried the all, but decided it was best not to binge on clif bar samples. I did ask if any Larabar representatives were in attendance and sadly there were none.

They did have really cool arm bands that gave instructions of when to take fuel boosters based on your goal finish time.

DSCN1565.JPG

While walking the circuit I saw a familiar brand I discovered through the blog world: Gracie’s Gear.

DSCN1568.JPG

I was SUPER excited to see the Power Pouch Sports Bras when Gracie came up and introduced herself. I felt like a little kid blubbering to a celebrity. I told her I knew all about her wonderful product and if I could take a picture with her. She agreed. :)

DSCN1569.JPG

I told her about my wonderful blog and all of my wonderful readers who would be introduced in trying her product. She told me to e-mail her, so *crossing fingers* a Giveaway may be in the works! Stay tuned!

The best part of the expo was all of the great shirts, bumper stickers, magents, etc. dedicated to running.

I found several shirts that perked my interest.

DSCN1567.JPG

DSCN1556.JPG

I really, really wanted one that said “I Run So I can Eat What I Want” but was not successful.

I did buy this fun shirt, that made me giggle.

DSCN1553.JPG

And this Magnet.

DSCN1557.JPG

And I got a keychain, shorts, pants and other free giveaways. It was so hard not purchasing the whole expo though. I wanted everything, but I tried to keep my purchases at a reasonable amount.

After the expo I made my way to Ikea to pick up a few odd and ends for my apartment. While I was there I found this sign amusing.

DSCN1573.JPG

Valentine’s day special at the Ikea cafe? Fellows, if they’re any that read my blog, word of advice… DO NOT take your valentine to Ikea for dinner on Valentines Day.… trust me you’ll thank me for this advice.

I was pretty exhausted by the time I got home with zero interested to make dinner so I went with what was easy. I had left over Kashi Roasted Vegetable Pizza with 1 cup of Healthy Valley’s Black Bean Vegetable Soup.

DSCN1589.JPG

I was surprised on how many comments I got last night about what I thought about the Kashi Pizza. I have to say its good, if you keep in mind that it is a frozen pizza. Its great and easy when you’re in a pinch and is light and flavorful so you don’t feel heavy or icky after eating it. I really like the Kashi Pizzas and tend to buy one when ever they’re on sale.

Dessert was half of a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie I picked up at Whole Foods today.

Alight Time for bed I have an EARLY wake up call!! Can’t wait to tell you all about volunteering tomorrow. Good Night!

Wow, that running expo looks so cool! I should see if there are any in my area soon! The Houston marathon is next week (which I’m planning to go watch), so maybe they’ll have cool stuff there :) Oh, and those t-shirts are awesome!
Yuck about the early wake-up time, but I’m sure it’ll be fun! There’s a guy I went to high-school with that’s down there doing the Goofy challenge…a half marathon today and a full marathon tomorrow! CRAZY!

Perfect post for me to read tonight! It’s actually my last one before I turn in before my half marathon in the morning! I actually read that Clif shot chart to figure out when I need to take my beans, gatorade and 1/2 a Clif bar tomorrow…so thanks! It really was heaven on Earth, huh? I need that half marathon Ho magnet. And those t-shirts are great!

Alright, sorry we both have to get up so early! Good night!

Looks like you really enjoyed the Expo. So fun, and I can’t wait to hear how your volunteer job went. I bet you were a great cheerleader.

I have a Gracie’s Gear top, and I love it! It’s a tank top with a pouch in front…brilliant idea. I hope your giveaway works out as every girl should own one of these tops!

I’ve never tried the Kashi pizza…I’ll have to pick one up soon. Happy Sunday Meghann!
