A Healthier New Year

I  have noticed a bit of a spike in my stats this week, I wasn’t really thinking much about it until it dawned on me that it’s the first week of January…i.e. National Everyone Tries to Get their Booty in Shape Week.

The Holidays are over and New Years Resolutions have been set, so what’s left for the world to do then strive for a healthier ‘09? I’m sure many of you notice the same trend at the gym. Right now you will be seeing a lot of new faces lurking around the cardio equipment, unfortunately most of the new faces tend to disappear before the start of February, but I want to prevent that from happening.

Exactly a year ago today was when I first decided to make a change in my life. Sure, I had made the resolution to lose weight in the New Year, as I had always done, but this year was different. On January 8, 2008 I had a doctors appointment that forced me to step on a scale after sever months of hiatus and see exactly where a year of fast food and a desk job had landed me. It wasn’t pretty, so I dove 100% into a new life and never looked back.

I am proud to say I am not one of those countless statistics who gave up in under a month. I broke the mold and adapted a healthy more fulfilling lifestyle then I had ever imagined. Now, I am challenging YOU, all my new readers, to do the same thing! I invite any new reader to comment with their goal and see if we can stick it through. I am here to help in any shape or form that I can. You all know my story, let’s see if we can write a happy ended for you as well.

Right now, I am working on a project with my cousin that I hope to launch tomorrow. I think it will be a great motivational piece.

And in case any of you are wondering, here are my eats from today.

My midmorning snack consisted of all the remaining Grapes and Cherries I had in my fridge.

Lunch was yummy left over Chickpea Noodle Soup, 2 Quick Whole Wheat Oatmeal Biscuits and some Cabot Reduced Fat Pepperjack Cheese.

I made mini sammies with the cheese and biscuits. Yum!

Wow, what a great post…so amazing, and true! I know, the gym has been CRAZY and then drops off after a month or so. I wish the same for people to not give up!!

My new years fitness goals are as follows:

1.Regain the muscles I lost by being a lazy ass my first semester of college.

2. Run at least a 10k.

These are my fitness goals for just the first half of the year.

Hey Meghann! I just discovered through facebook that you have a blog so I’ve been trying to catch up on some of the posts. Your blog is so awesome! And I figured if I’m going to be a “lurker,” I may as well comment and let you know that you have an extra reader. I’m running the Disney Princess Half Marathon in March (I think I told you that at the Homecoming game). So I’m really trying to make some changes in my eating and exercising habits. What I love about your blog is that it shows me that it is possible to eat great tasting food (that looks great too in the pictures) and still be eating healthy. I get discouraged in magazines when recipes have two dozen ingredients and take forever to make. Your posts show me that it doesn’t have to be that way. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and say that I’m really enjoying your blog!

Soup and sandwich – classic! You cannot go wrong with a soup and sanwich combo. I love me some soup 🙂

keep my eating on track
adding yoga into my routine
trying out new and exciting things

Great post Meghann – you should be really proud of what you have accomplished over the last year!!

I have no problem working out and often find myself becoming a little obsessive about it. I would love to just have a better outlook on working out (for stress release and to be healthy/strong, not just to maintain weight). I’d also like to commit more time to yoga and just appreciate my body AS IS 🙂

Interesting articles. The biggest loser one was kind of sad to me though. Wearing your BodyBugg constantly and eating a plain chicken breast and no lasagna ever seems so extreme. It seems like the show may not teach them about balance enough, which I guess makes sense when you’re competing, but seems too rigid for the real world.

I started my new goals on my daughter’s 4th Bday which was 12/29/08. I decided to start running, drink more water and to eat more foods that come without labels. I will be competeing in my first 5k this February. Thanks Meghann for the great inspiration and PS…I love the Kashi H2H!

Congrats on all your changes and being an inspiration to others. I started on my goal of losing a few pounds and really toning up a few months ago but it got even more serious when I got engaged last week. I really want to have “killer” arms in the dress.

My fiancee and I both travel a ton for work so another goal is to try and eat at home whenever possible to not only eat healthier but save $$.

you are so incredibly sweet and inspiring. Reading your blog was a big influence for me when I was making my New Years Resolutions… I started reading your blog and Caitlin’s..then slowly realized that it might actually be possible for me to get in shape, loose weight, and get healthy. So my
NYRs are to start a blog, incorporate exercise into my lifestyle, and eat nutritional/tasty/healthy food =) thanks for everything!
