A Birthday Lunch

by Meghann on October 9, 2008

Lunch today was fabulous! I have come to the conclusion that I am not a fan of ‘fast food’ places during lunch, but sit down restaurants (especially when someone else is paying!) are always welcomed in my book. J

To celebrate my Supervisor’s birthday, a co-worker and I took her to Brio Tuscan Grill. I had never been before, but have seen them in the past and have always wanted to try it.

When we sat down I was oddly starving so I immediately had a piece of the garlic flat bread crisp thingy(?).

I love bread at tables, but I always try to hold off so I don’t fill myself up on bread before the meal arrives. This flat bread crisp had a great garlic flavor to it and was light and crispy so it didn’t fill me up. It was just enough to satisfy my immediate hunger.

For my main meal I ordered the Wood-Grilled Salmon Salad with Roma tomatoes, asparagus, Feta cheese, crispy shoestring potatoes with balsamic vinaigrette. ( I ordered the dressing on the side and picked off all of the potatoes when it arrived at the table)

This salad was amazing! All of the flavors blended together so well, and it was so nice and juicy on its own that I didn’t even need the dressing at all. I cleaned my entire plate! Yum!

The whole table actually ended up ordering salads and they all looked amazing. We all happily cleaned our plates while chatting along about politics, office gossip, birthday traditions and our pets. I was in really good company and had a great time at lunch.

Since it was my supervisor’s birthday we had to get a little something for dessert. Of course they had to twist my arm first to get me to order something (…or I was the first one who spoke up, but really who’s paying attention anyways?) At Brio they have these little dessert espresso cups, I guess it’s their version of a shot glass dessert. I am always a big fan of these mini desserts because they are always the right amount of yummy goodness. I selected the Peanut Butter Chocolate dessert.

The dessert was more peanut butter then chocolate, but still amazing. The dessert it self had a heavy mousse texture and I wanted to lick the cup when I was finished, but I reframed.

My co-workers wanted their desserts to be in a picture as well.

Mine is on the right, the one on the left was Chocolate Carmel and to the back was Raspberry Cheesecake. Unfortunately I didn’t get any tastes but they were all swooning over their desserts as well.

Midmorning I snacked on a Pumpkin Bar slathered with peanut butter.

Can you tell I am a huge fan of this combination? If I make these bars again I will definitely be incorporating peanut butter into the recipe.

Well now I am STUFFED! That was a great lunch, but I still have a great dinner to look forward to. I usually don’t go out to eat twice in the same day, but today the occasion called for it. J I am very excited for my dinner with Jordan and Caitlin. We’re going to Wildside BBQ & Grill in downtown. I’m too full now to look at the menu and try to decide what I want, but I am open for suggestions! Now I have to take a nap work. J

I love work lunches when I don’t have to pay 🙂 Looks like a great salad, and that shot-glass dessert is the perfect way to end the meal 🙂

Have fun tonight!

Oh, that all looks so good (except for the salmon! :D)

I’d get the Wild Thai Salad at your dinner restaurant – that jumped out at me!

Have a great time! It will be fun to compare all your pictures later!

Your lunch out looks beautiful, and it’s even better that you had a great time with your coworkers! The salad looks delicious, and who doesn’t like a dessert with peanut butter & chocolate, yet in a “guilt-free” tiny espresso cup?! Sounds good to me!

Also, your pumpkin bars look even better with the addition of pb. But again, pb has that way of making everything tastier.
Have a nice dinner out! Lucky girl 😀

I can count on the number of one hands that I’ve said no to bread. I would rather have the bread than the dessert! Anyway, everything looks fantastic! Great idea to add peanut butter to the pumpkin bars/brownies. 🙂

Those desserts look so decadent! So cute that your co-workers wanted their desserts in the picture too!

I love the desserts in the little expresso cups. Makes me feel so much less guilty when I eat the whole thing!

I LOVE Brio Tuscan Grill, they do have a fabulous menu…I think you’re referring to the one that is a chain? Anyways, that salad sounds great, and I’m planning on making some pumpkin bars tomorrow, you’ve inspired me! 😉
