No More Ghetto Laptop!

by Meghann on September 22, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I was mindlessly sipping some water while blogging away when a hole appeared in my mouth and I some how managed to spit up water all over my open laptop. I, of course, freaked and flipped it over and let it sit and dry for as long s I could stand it. Everything looked fine when I went to mess it with, it wasn’t until after I started to try to type something that I noticed some of the letters weren’t appearing on the screen. :(

I had fried my keyboard!! I called around and found out it would cost over $200 to fix… stupid keyboard. Luckily I have the best IT department in the whole world and they did everything they could to help me out. They let me borrow an external keyboard to plug in so I could at least type on my comp (that’s where the ‘ghetto laptop’ came in to play), they found my keyboard on ebay for under $20 and even offered to pop the new one back in when it arrived. My beautiful new keyboard arrived over the weekend and in a matter of minutes my IT guy was able to pop my old keyboard out and pop the new one in today. It really is a beautiful thing! Now I can sit crosslegged on my couch with my laptop in my lap and happily blog away again. I really owe my IT guy lunch he saved me $200!

This afternoon I snacked on this perfectly preportioned bag of nuts.

I found these at publix for 69 cents a piece. They’re great to just throw in the purse on the way out the door. I loved the yummy combo of almonds, cashews and pistachios.

Dinner tonight was one of my favorite easy go to meals. It’s so simple and so yummy and reminds me of when I was a little kid.

I had an apple chicken sausage with sauerkraut & ketchup on a whole wheat bun, sweet potato fries and steamed green beans.

I love sauerkraut on any sort of hotdog or sausage, it just completes the summer hot dog feel to me. I was eating the sauerkraut straight from the container as I cooked. Sauerkraut really is the perfect condiment, it adds a ton of flavor and volume with out a ton of calories.

Sweet potato fries are a favorite go to of mine. I just sprinkle them with pepper and salt and bake them in the over at 425 degrees for 20 mins and they always come out perfect.

I had some green beans on the side just to add a little more color to it.

I caved in for dessert tonight and just went ahead and finished off the rest of Gina’s maccaroons. I just could not help myself.

Of course now I’m sad they’re all gone! :( I guess I will just have to cross my fingers Gina posts the recipe soon so I can attempt to recreate the divine creations myself. :)

Does anyone watch Dexter? I’ve netflixed the second season and its just getting good! I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to compete with the first season but they definitely just got my attention. I’m off to finish this disc so I can send it back and get another one ASAP!

I love Kashi

by Meghann on September 22, 2008

Has anyone seen the new Kashi commercials lately? They are yet again conducting a brilliant marketing campaign, where they mail out wonderful free samples of their products. This time around they are promoting their Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie! Yum!

As huge of a Kashi fan as I am, I have yet to pick up a box of these cookies, so that makes me extra excited to receive my free sample. As soon as I heard the commercial this morning I logged straight onto my computer and signed up. To receive your own free cookie visit Kashi’s website at Kashi.com

Speaking of Kashi…

Their wonderful cereal bars finally went on sale at Publix this week. I made sure to pick up two boxes. For my midmorning snack I decided to try the Blackberry Graham flavor.

Everyone always compares these babies to Nutrigrain bars. Unfortunately due to my lack of never having tried a Nutrigrain bar; I have noting to compare it to. So from my unbiased opinion I thought these babies were pretty damn good! It was just like having a little Kelly smeared on a flaky pastry. I can’t wait to try the other flavor I purchased!

Lunch today was actually suppose to be last night’s dinner, but when I was so full from yesterday’s huge lunch I decided to go for something light and hold off on this for lunch today.

I made a quick grilled cheese half of a sandwich and a nice bowl of Publix Spring Vegetable soup.

For the grilled cheese I used a slice of the Whole Wheat Whole Foods brand bread I purchased on Saturday. This bread has no HFCS and actually gives you a pretty generous slice for 90 calories. The price also was not that bad at $2.69 for a decent size loaf. I cut the slice of bread in half, put to slices of fat free swiss cheese in the middle and stuck it in the George Foreman for three minutes. George Foreman makes the best grilled cheeses.

The Publix Spring Vegetable soup is one of my faves. You can find it in the deli section always tastes very fresh like you bought it from a restaurant. I also love the fact you can actually see all the yummy veggies they put in the soup. Aren’t they so pretty?

While I was heading out the door I saw Gina’s wonderful goodie bag in the fridge and decided to grab a macaroon for the ride back to work.

I think this one was even better then the first two I had. It definitely had more of an almond flavor today that was brought out due to the refrigeration. I really need to track this recipe down.

Now its time to get back to work; I have a registration site to create. J
