I Rocked that Run

by Meghann on September 21, 2008

I love running by my parent’s house. They have great shaded sidewalks that are nice and wide and are really perfect for running. I consulted MapMyRun.com before I took off this morning and mixed and match until I found a route that went a little over 8 miles. I was determined to go farther then I did yesterday and boy were my legs pumped to take off today.

Since I run around my Parent’s neighborhood so much, in the past I have planned stops where I mentally would tell myself I could run to and then take a quick walking break. This used to help me through longer runs because I knew I would always have these breaks to look forward to. I think more then anything this was a mental thing, I know now that my body can go farther then these points. I decided to test all of my training these past couple of weeks and push past my usual scheduled stops.

I am still amazed what my body could accomplish, I kept waiting for the cues that my body needed to walk but they really never came. I had a total of three breaks my entire run. Once for water, Once to fix my shoes, and once to actually walk two feet and catch my breath. I never felt better! When I finished I felt I could have actually gone farther, but I want to save that for my race next weekend. I can honestly say after today that I am more then ready for my race next weekend. I can do a 15K, no problem. Hell, bring on the half marathon while you’re at it!

Today’s Stats:
Time: 1 hour 27 mins 13 secs
Distance: 8.12 miles (new PDR!)

Before my run I decided to try one of the new bars I picked up at Whole Foods yesterday.

I had Clif’s Mojo Chocolate Covered Peanuts bar. I had seen these on difference blogs and heard mixed reviews on it.

My verdict? It was pretty good. A little salty, but I think it worked with the sweetness of the chocolate. It keep me fueled throughout my entire run. I not want to explore other flavors of the Mojo variety.

When I returned from my run, my Dad and I got started on a filling post run breakfast.

I had an onion bagel sandwich, with one whole egg, two slices of bacon and no sugar added aple butter. On the side I had an apple that was on its last day and not very pretty.

The sandwich was very yummy! I can’t tell you the last time I had bacon. It was a great treat.

My Mom’s trip

Every year my mom goes through the Orlando Diocese on a medical mission to the Dominican Republic. Her and about 25 other nurses and doctors provide medical care to very poor families, who for some this is the only medical attention they receive all year.

With the destruction from the past hurricanes this year, this country has been in even more distress and needed the attention more then ever.

My mom always believes this trip is worth a week out of her year to be able to help hundreds of others who otherwise would never receive it. I’m very proud of my Mom and all the good she does!

Awesome run! I like the Mountain Trail Mix Mojo bars, they aren’t very filling, but they would probably be good fuel pre-workout.

What an amazing mom you have, awesome! 🙂

Your mom is awesome. I love that picture with the little boy smiling up at her [assuming that’s her…] The look on his face just really makes it known how much they appreciate her help =]
